Big Idea
The argument in one line.
YouTube is the best platform for creators because it pays far more, supports its creators, opens real-world doors, and is still growing past Netflix.
Who This Is For
Read if. Skip if.
READ IF YOU ARE…
A creator posting mainly on Instagram or TikTok who wonders whether a YouTube channel is worth the extra work.
Someone who has thought about starting a YouTube channel for months and wants a concrete argument to stop stalling.
A creator who used to post on YouTube, stopped, and wants to know what has changed on the platform recently.
SKIP IF…
You already run a YouTube channel and want tactical advice on retention, packaging or thumbnails.
You want a neutral platform comparison; this is one creator's openly biased case, with a sponsor and an agency plug inside it.
TL;DR
The full version, fast.
Modern Millie argues YouTube is the best creator platform and backs it with five pieces of evidence. YouTube launched its Partner Program two years after founding and says it has paid creators over $100 billion in four years, about $25 billion a year, against roughly $3 billion from Meta and $5.5 billion from TikTok. YouTubers are becoming mainstream media, YouTube supports creators directly, the platform opens doors like speaking gigs and brand deals, and it now beats Netflix in TV streaming hours. She closes with new features: custom feeds, video A/B testing, likeness detection and expanded Shopping.

Atomic Insights
Lines worth screenshotting.
YouTube launched in 2005 and opened its Partner Program in 2007, so paying creators was built in from year two, not bolted on after a decade.
YouTube says it paid creators over $100 billion in four years, roughly $25 billion a year.
Meta reported paying creators $3 billion in 2025, and TikTok about $5.5 billion globally; combined they are less than half of YouTube's annual payout.
Every big YouTuber started from zero, and the first videos of even the biggest names flopped. What separated them was that they kept posting.
When her channel of 300,000 to 500,000 subscribers was hacked, YouTube support got it back within 24 hours.
One YouTube video led to an invitation to coach a marketing team at Google's office, then repeat invitations to New York.
YouTube is a skill stack in disguise: scripting, on-camera confidence, editing, color, audio, thumbnails and community building all improve with each upload.
People you meet through YouTube feel more intimate and real than casual connections on Instagram or TikTok.
YouTube now owns about 15.8% of US TV time, nearly double Netflix, and it is free for both viewers and creators.
Subscription fatigue pushes viewers toward free YouTube, which means more room for new creators to become someone's comfort creator.
Video A/B testing will let creators upload two different videos with the same objective and compare views and retention.
Her first video had no strategy at all. She filmed it on her phone, edited it on her phone, and posted it.

WHAT TO LEARN
YouTube's payouts, support and growth make it the strongest long-term home for a creator, and the only real requirement is to start.
YouTube built creator payments into the platform within two years of launch, and its reported $25 billion a year in payouts dwarfs Meta's $3 billion and TikTok's $5.5 billion.
Even the biggest YouTubers had first videos that flopped. Consistency while skills improve matters more than a polished first upload.
Platform support matters when things go wrong: a hacked 300,000-plus subscriber channel was recovered within 24 hours.
One YouTube video can lead to speaking, coaching and brand work, so the channel acts as a portfolio that works while you sleep.
Each upload trains scripting, on-camera presence, editing, thumbnails and community building, skills that transfer to any business.
YouTube's rise past Netflix on TV and viewers' subscription fatigue mean the audience is still growing and still free to reach.
New tools like video A/B testing, custom feeds and likeness detection lower the cost of testing ideas and protect your identity.

YouTube is by far, hands down, the best platform for creators. I would know. I post across all main platforms and YouTube still outbeats them all.
They pay well, they listen and bring out features creators are actually wanting, and when you run into trouble, they actually help you. So if you've been thinking about starting a YouTube channel or you've just been looking for a sign to start, a YouTube channel or start posting again if you used to post, this video is for you.
In this video, I'm going to give you proof, unrefutable evidence. five reasons why YouTube is the best platform for creators. Nobody could talk me out any other way.
And at the end of this video, I want to talk about some new exciting features that are coming to YouTube. As always, timestamps are below. Use them if you need them.
Let's jump in. For you to understand truly why YouTube is the best and why I am so passionate about this topic, you have to also understand YouTube's background. Our evidence number one is YouTube's background.
YouTube has shown over the years their love for their creators. YouTube launched in 2005, and then just two years later, 2007, they launched the YouTube Partner Program. that's within just two years back in the early 2000s before like paying creators was even a thing people thought about they truly figured out and almost invented the way for their platform to pay their creators comparing this to other platforms instagram instagram launched in 2010.
it's 16 years later and i feel like they still haven't really figured out a way for their creators to monetize off their platform. I feel like we maybe do hear of a few occasions where creators are getting paid off meta, mostly Facebook views, but we don't hear a lot about Instagram creators having their full -time income be Instagram payouts.
Let's just compare my stats. This is how many views that I've gotten per platform over the last 28 to 30 days. This is how much I got paid for those views.
Enough said. At YouTube's latest made on YouTube event, they announced that in the last four years, they've actually paid their creators over $100 billion. Billion with a buh buh.
That comes out to roughly $25 billion a year paid out to creators. Taking a look at other platforms, we have Meta.
So both Instagram and Facebook, they said that they paid their creators $3 billion in 2025, which I will give it to them. That was a 35 % increase from the year before. But can we even compare 3 billion to 25 billion?
Now I am not purposefully leaving out TikTok. We're going to talk about TikTok too. That would be the next best platform for monetization, personally, in my opinion, because TikTok offers several ways that you can be making money off TikTok as a TikTok creator, including getting paid for views, TikTok shop affiliates.
and more. I know TikTok shop is lucrative for so many creators, but even TikTok only paid creators around $5 .5 billion globally. Again, 5 .5 billion in a year compared to 25, still not even close.
Even TikTok and Meta's payout combined to creators still isn't even half of what YouTube is paying their creators. And I personally believe this goes back to YouTube's background of within two years of launching YouTube, they made it a priority to learn how to pay their creators fairly on their app.
Reason number two why YouTube is the best platform is YouTubers are leading the creative industry YouTubers are storytellers, they're filmmakers, showmakers. They're pretty much becoming the backbone of the creator industry if they haven't already, but also the backbone of digital media altogether.
YouTubers are growing beyond just YouTube. YouTubers are breaking out of streaming and having their ideas launch into the world through products, cinema, and pop culture. I mean, you could look at obsession and backrooms.
Those movies broke box office records and their creators were YouTubers. There's an endless list of creators being featured in major films.
We also have businesses and brands like Feastables made by Mr. Beast, Chamberlain Coffee launched by Emma Chamberlain, and Joyride co -created by Ryan Trahan. All of those creators are almost on the Mount Rushmore of creators and their businesses are quickly becoming household names.
There are YouTubers that are getting signed by streaming networks to have their own shows. available on the streaming networks platforms. And Miss Rachel even has her own Netflix show, which my son absolutely loves.
We also have creators like Sam and Colby selling out literal movie theaters, premiering their YouTube videos. YouTubers are mainstream media or are becoming mainstream media. Some are even valued more than A -list celebrities.
YouTubers are creators in the greatest sense of the word. And when I say this, I don't want this to feel discouraging of like, oh my gosh, I know nothing about using a camera.
How could I ever get to that level? This is not like an intimidating thing. This, I want it to be inspirational to you because you can achieve that level of greatness too.
Every single YouTuber started from zero. I'll just put on screen some big name YouTubers' first videos, what they looked like. If you look into the background of any of your favorite creators, even biggest creators like MrBeast, The videos that they first posted flopped, probably got no views.
The difference between them and other creators is that they kept going. They kept creating and learning to hone their skills of storytelling and filmmaking. When you're just getting started on YouTube, you are learning so many different things.
You're learning filmmaking, editing, storytelling. all of it. One thing that has made the storytelling process so much easier for me is having access to resources that help me bring my video ideas to life, which brings me to today's sponsor Storyblocks.
I've been using Storyblocks since like the very beginning of my creator journey. I mean, just look at newbie Millie here using Storyblocks in her video. If you've watched any of my videos, you know how much I love Storyblocks.
It's been a huge part of my journey and it's also become an essential part of my editing work. flow. I don't know what I would do without them.
For example, sometimes my team and I will be editing a video and I realized, oh, I didn't film a specific shot for this, or I need help to visually explain something that I'm talking about to help keep viewer attention. Or maybe I just want some background music or a sound effect or a little bit of extra B roll here. Instead of me having to go out and film more footage, or instead of me needing to access a million different tools to find, okay, I need to find music.
Okay. I need to find this. I need.
find sound effects, I just go over to Storyblocks because they literally have it all. They have millions of stock videos, music, tracks, sound effects, images, and templates that you can use to bring your videos to life. One of my absolute favorite things about Storyblocks is that their stock media library is 100 % human made.
That's 100%. human made library. They don't accept AI generated content.
The library gets new content every single day. And with unlimited downloads, I can try different options until I find the right clips for my videos. All of these assets are created by real filmmakers, artists, and musicians.
And every download supports the real artists behind those assets, which I love. Plus, if you are worried about it, or you're thinking about it, everything is pre -licensed so you can use it in your projects. including monetizing your YouTube videos.
This way you can focus on creating without having to actually worry about licensing every individual asset in your video. That's definitely a huge relief if you're somebody just starting your YouTube journey, having a library like this can make such a huge. difference when you're learning how to edit and tell better stories and navigate the legalities of stock footage or music.
So to get access to the human -made stock media library built for creators and essential to my workflow, head to storyblocks .com slash modern Millie. You could get a special discount through my link only for a limited time. So definitely take advantage of the sale while you can.
Now, speaking of supporting creators, let's talk about another reason. why I love YouTube so much, why they truly are the best. Reason number three is because YouTube values their creators.
They actually like their creators. How I feel like some other platforms don't. That's just my opinion.
So I kind of already briefly touched on this by showing you how much YouTube has paid their creators, but their appreciation of creators doesn't stop there. In fact, YouTube is the one platform that feels like it's as obsessed with their creators as their creators are obsessed with them. Let me rapid fire some reason.
Reason one, the accessibility to getting YouTube support. I believe two years ago, my YouTube channel was hacked. It was between 300 and 500 ,000 subscribers.
I reached out to YouTube support and they helped me get it back within 24 hours. I have heard horror stories of other creators on other apps getting their accounts hacked and just never getting them back because they're never able to get ahold of somebody at the company. Reason number two, on YouTube's YouTube channel, because YouTube has a YouTube channel, they are constantly...
collaborating and creating with creators. Three, YouTube also used to have something called their YouTube Rewind until people started complaining about every single rewind that they did. But still YouTube used to have something called a YouTube Rewind where at the end of the year, they would pull together and make like a mini commercial, a mini year and end review video of all the top YouTube creators.
They use creators to help announce new features at their events. And I think really the final cherry on top reason for me, I was recently invited to Boston to coach a marketing team that was working with YouTube. So YouTube reached out to me and they were like, hey, Millie, we work with this client and we help them with their marketing strategies on Google and YouTube.
We want to bring you in to help teach a session and coach this marketing team. It was like a. full day intensive.
So from like nine to 5pm, it was just the YouTube team working with these marketing experts for Vistaprint. They put together presentations, slideshows, I had my section of the agenda. There was also like a open fireside question Q &A that I did.
But the thing that stuck with me the most was when YouTube they started teaching and they were going to be presenting to Vistaprint and like showing them the power of YouTube and power of creators on YouTube. They literally played like a commercial basically bragging and not bragging.
I don't know the right word, but it was like highlighting how awesome creators are. It wasn't just like YouTube so great. It was like creators are so cool.
It was this whole commercial about how creators on YouTube are just next level creatives, business owners, and all these things. And just like watching it being in the room and watching the YouTube team, the Vistaprint team, just like get excited with this commercial that YouTube was playing and highlighting like how impactful and awesome and how much they love their creators.
I was like, wow, wow. Even YouTube. really does love their creators.
That was the cherry on top. Being a content creator myself, sitting literally in the Google office, being there paid by YouTube to help coach another business and then seeing YouTube care so much. about their creators, it sealed the deal for me.
If you've enjoyed any of this video so far, consider giving it a thumbs up since it tells YouTube that other creators like yourself might find this content helpful or interesting. And if you're inspired by the end of the video or you learn something new, consider subscribing since I make content like this every single week, helping creators and YouTubers turn their content creator dreams into an actual income.
I know I'm a yapper, but let's keep going. Reason number four. YouTube opens up so many opportunities.
Opportunity for myself that I just mentioned was going to Boston. This was such an incredible opportunity that I would have never gotten if I hadn't posted this video on YouTube. It was because of this video, that was how I was found, that I was not only invited to Boston, but I've also been invited back.
to New York to go to the Google office and teach at two more of these sessions with other billion dollar companies. Because of YouTube, I've been able to work with so many dream brands that I literally, when I was started, were on my list of like dream brand opportunities. And I wouldn't have ever gotten that if it wasn't for YouTube.
I've also made some really great friends. and connections. And I feel like anyone I meet through YouTube, it just feels so much more intimate and real instead of for some reason, like people that you casually meet and connect with on Instagram or TikTok.
I feel like. when I meet and talk with other YouTubers, it is that much deeper. I've been asked to speak at conferences.
I've been able to attend YouTube events to network with other creators. I've been able to not only replace my nine to five, but make more than what my corporate job was paying me just with YouTube payout alone. And beyond the real life opportunities like these, YouTube is also the ultimate skill.
Like talk about an opportunity of being able to learn new things and push yourself. outside of your comfort zone, coming up with video ideas, learning how to script or outline a video for retention, being confident to show up on camera and getting comfortable with that over time, recording, editing, color grading, lighting, audio, writing descriptions.
thumbnail editing, building a community, the list goes on. These are all skills that you can hone as you work on your YouTube channel. These are the reasons why so many creators are able to go from YouTubers to selling out movie theaters.
It's because with every upload, they're just fine tuning and honing their skills over time. If you're someone who's at this time in life where right now you... would prefer to have more extra support with YouTube.
I use Ready Set Clicks. So Ready Set Clicks is a YouTube agency that I use to help with video strategy, thumbnail editing, all the things. For anyone who knows my background, I've been posting on YouTube for I think 15 years now.
And when I first started posting, I was posting to a YouTube channel that my brother and I both had together. My brother and I posted to this channel for, I believe, nine years.
And then when I started my own channel, I was like, yo, Joel, you want to help me with my channel? So he's been with me for six years growing my YouTube channel. Over that time, not only has he been working with me, but he's worked with other YouTubers.
And this year, he launched his own YouTube agency. So Ready, Set, Clicks is actually created by my brother, literally right hand man who's helped me with my YouTube channel since day one. They're currently offering free YouTube channel audits for anyone who meets certain criteria.
So you have to have posted to your channel to get an audit. So if you wanna apply for a free audit or even want to apply to work with a YouTube agency, see what that would look like for someone to ideate your videos, help you script, help you edit, help you create thumbnails and post for you, even managing YouTube brand deals, if you are curious what that will look like, I'll leave a link to them down below.
Evidence number five, why YouTube's truly the best is because YouTube has surpassed Netflix in streaming hours. People are spending more time on YouTube than they are on Netflix.
Right now YouTube is the dominant streaming platform on people's TV and it's free. This is proof that YouTube is growing and growth means there is so much more opportunity for new creators, new YouTubers to start channels and help YouTube be part of this growth.
More people are watching YouTube every single day because they're getting subscription fatigue. They don't want to pay for a Netflix subscription, Hulu subscription, Amazon Prime subscription, all these subscriptions when they could just watch YouTube every day. for free.
You can become someone's new comfort creator, someone's educator, someone's go -to documentary storyteller. It's free for people to watch and it's free for its creators to post. So let's talk about a few new features that are coming to YouTube.
At Made on YouTube, they announced over 20 new features all designed to help creators grow. I'm just going to quickly go over a few of my favorites. So first up is custom feeds.
YouTube's introducing new custom feeds based on your So as a creator, this will be a really cool way to hone in on your niche and get discovered that much quicker. So as a user, this is going to be really easy for you to discover new content that's actually based around your interests.
And if users are manually selecting interests and you're creating content around those interests, it's going to be really easy for YouTube to connect you to your target audience. YouTube's introducing a new conversational video editing tool to help you through your edits.
Next is video AB testing. YouTube already has the thumbnail AB testing down, but now they're going to be video AB testing where you can actually upload two different videos that accomplish the same objective, you know, with the title and you could AB test those videos to see which one gets better views, higher retention, et cetera.
YouTube is also introducing likeness detection to help. protect creators, meaning if someone is using your likeness to create content, YouTube will be there to help you get that content and person removed from YouTube. YouTube Shopping and YouTube Creator Partnerships are also expanding, so these are two huge ways that creators can monetize their channels.
We already know TikTok Shop is huge for creators, and it feels like YouTube is starting to expand into this area and take... like youtube shop to its own new level even when i was at boston talking to the youtube team they did confirm and hint at some really cool new like youtube shop features where people can shop directly on youtube just like you would on tick tock shop these are just a few of the features that they recently announced at their made on youtube event i truly hope this video inspires even just one person to start a youtube channel and change the trajectory of their life because I remember living with my mom, making the decision to start my own YouTube channel, which felt terrifying because I had only ever created videos with someone, with like a co -host, with my brother, with my best friend, you know?
And I remember being in my room at my mom's house, making that decision and setting up my phone to film a YouTube video talking about, I think like 10 things you might hate me for or something like that. And if it wasn't for that version of me, if it wasn't for that moment, to just do the dang thing no strategy no concept of packaging and retention like there was no strategy it was just like I want to just do this topic first.
And I just yapped. I edited it on my phone, posted it with my phone. If it wasn't for that version of me that just was like, I'm just going to commit.
I'm just going to send it and see what happens. I would not be here. And that decision changed the trajectory of my life.
And so if this video just encourages one person. to make that decision to go all in and to pursue YouTube, then this video was worth it for me. So if you even made it this far, I want you to include this secret emoji in your comment below.
And I also want you to make this promise to yourself, commit to yourself right now in the comments below that you're like, okay, I'm ready to commit. I'm ready to become a YouTuber, whatever that commitment is to yourself, write that confirmation down in the comments below and let's support each other to help you reach your first 1000 subscribers.
and required watch hours to get monetized on YouTube, I definitely recommend watching this video next. As always, thank you so much for watching. I will see you in the next one.
Follow your joy. Bye.
