Big Idea

The argument in one line.

Claude Code can write, direct, and render an entire AI music video by turning code into screenshots, and the $0 version costs almost nothing beyond a Claude subscription.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • A Claude Code user curious how far the tool goes beyond coding, into generated video, music, and motion graphics.
  • Someone who wants to copy the viral AI music video trend without spending hundreds of dollars on image and video APIs.
  • A creator deciding whether to budget for paid AI tools like Higgsfield and kie.ai or stay entirely inside a Claude subscription.
SKIP IF…
  • You want a professional After Effects or Blender workflow. This is AI code generated motion graphics, not manual animation.
  • You want a line by line code walkthrough. This video stays at the concept and cost level, not the implementation.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

Claude can't output video directly, so it writes code: a web page that renders each frame, which a headless browser screenshots and FFmpeg stitches into an MP4. The creator used this to remake a viral AI music video trend twice. Once with paid image and video APIs (Higgsfield, kie.ai, about $3 total) for a human style character, and once using nothing but his Claude subscription, where Claude invented its own mascot animated entirely in code. Both versions used the same AI generated song, made for free on a laptop with the open source ACE-Step model. The paid version looks more polished. The free version proves the same pipeline works at zero added cost beyond the subscription itself.

06 · Version 1: the paid build

Builds the paid version: a Higgsfield character sheet, kie.ai image and video generation, then converts the character into code driven motion graphics.

17:49 – 21:47

07 · Version 2: the $0 build

Builds the $0 version with Claude's own invented mascot, animated entirely in code under a strict motion rulebook.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • Claude can't generate video directly. It writes code for a web page, screenshots every frame in a browser, and glues them together with the free tool FFmpeg.
  • A 2:45 song at 30 frames per second needs 4,950 individual screenshots to become a finished video.
  • A viral remake claiming $2,000 in AI credits and 12 hours of Claude time only needed about $3 and roughly 1.5 to 2 hours in testing.
  • Most of the viral AI music videos being shared as AI video are actually motion graphics, code driven animation, not AI generated footage.
  • An AI singer can't reliably pronounce a brand name, so the creator spelled Claude as Clawd in the song lyrics just to get the pronunciation right.
  • The free, open source music model ACE-Step 1.5 can generate a full song locally on a 16GB laptop, with no subscription and no cloud cost.
  • Claude graded its own motion graphics by screenshotting every shot onto one page, reviewing it like a contact sheet, then fixing what looked wrong.
  • With zero budget for paid image or video tools, Claude invented its own mascot character instead of trying to fake a human face in code.
  • A $0 Claude only build and a $3 paid build used almost the same share of a weekly Claude Max usage allowance, around 16 to 19 percent each.
  • A lip synced AI avatar built from paid image generators still read as generic. Turning the same character into code driven motion graphics looked more original.
Takeaway

What a Zero Dollar AI Video Actually Costs

COST VS CRAFT

Claude can direct an entire music video by writing code instead of generating footage, and the real cost gap between the paid and $0 builds came down to character art, not animation.

03How the viral ones were really made
  • Captions claiming a music video was made with one prompt in 12 hours often hide a prompt thousands of characters long and dozens of parallel coding agents.
  • Most clips shared as AI video in this trend are actually motion graphics, code driven animation, not footage from a generative video model.
04How Claude actually makes a video
  • Claude can't output video directly. It writes code for a web page, a browser screenshots every frame, and the free tool FFmpeg stitches the screenshots into an MP4.
05Step 1: the song
  • A full original song, lyrics and vocals, can be produced for $0 with the open source ACE-Step model running locally on a 16GB laptop.
06Version 1: the paid build
  • A consistent character, multiple poses and expressions from one reference, cost about 10 credits on a paid image platform, not hundreds of dollars.
  • A lip synced AI avatar can work technically and still look generic. Turning the same character into code driven motion graphics produced a more original result.
07Version 2: the $0 build
  • With zero budget for images or video, Claude invented its own simple mascot character rather than attempting a realistic face in code.
  • A written rulebook, nothing static longer than 0.4 seconds and something hits every beat, is what kept a code only motion graphics piece from feeling static.
08Paid vs $0, head to head
  • A paid character build and a fully code only build used almost the same share of a weekly Claude usage allowance, so going free saves money, not Claude usage.
09How to install the skill
  • Starting with a 15 to 30 second test render before attempting a full song length video avoids burning a Claude session on a build that needs revision anyway.
Glossary

Terms worth knowing.

ACE-Step 1.5
A free, open source AI music generation model that can run locally on a laptop GPU, used here to write and sing an original song with no subscription cost.
kie.ai
A pay as you go API marketplace for AI image and video models. No subscription, you load a balance and pay per generation.
Higgsfield
A paid AI image platform used here to generate a consistent character sheet, multiple poses and expressions, for an anime style character.
P(doom)
Shorthand in AI safety discourse for probability of doom, the odds assigned to catastrophic AI outcomes. Used here as a recurring visual gag in the motion graphics.
Motion graphics
Animated graphic design, moving text, shapes, and transitions, as opposed to live action or AI generated video footage. This is what most of the AI video trend actually is.

These are some of the most viral motion graphics on the internet right now. This music video has 2 .5 million views and it was posted by a student with 1 ,600 followers. This one was a remake of it almost 4 million views.
And this one, every drum hits time freezes and the camera flies around her. Today, you're going to learn how to make this because this one is mine actually. I made two, one that is paid and the one that costs $0.
and everything that you see here was done by ai my cloud was the director if a thought of every shot and how to pull it off and even the song that you see the melody the lyrics every single sound here was generated by ai everything you see here is basically code and of course as you know me i turned all of it into a skill it's free and you have two options you can either use the paid one or you can use the zero dollar one and by the end of this video you'll see exactly what are the differences between the paid one and the zero dollar one i'm actually super excited to make this video because today i went all out my motion graphic video did over 120 000 views less than a week ago i had 400 subs today we're almost at 4 000.
to everyone who just subbed thank you so much it really means a lot and i read all your comments all of them you guys give me a lot of feedback so this whole video is built around the feedback that i got the top comment said nobody explains the actual costs nobody ever shows when they run out of usage so this time i'll be showing you everything what i paid and how much of my cloud usage it actually took somebody else said zero dollars you guys only need to pay the cloud subs and you know what this is kind of like a fair question so let me be clear when i say zero dollars i mean zero dollars on top of your cloud subscription you do need cloud i'm not going to pretend you don't someone said also the colors look dull and washed out nothing popped really so this time i make everything right another person said i didn't show the process so this time i'll show you the full process step by step and also i'm working on a two hour long full course on this with of course the free skill with it a lot of you asked where can i download the song so this time the song was just for the video and with this skill you can make your own music if you want to bring your own song you could definitely do that and just have motion graphics around it
And as you know me, I'm not keeping any of this. The skill is free in my school community. Link is in the description.
And I see all of you guys posting in my school when you guys use the skill. I appreciate you guys a lot. And just so you know, I'm not sponsored like all my other videos.
Nobody paid me to make these videos. I probably made a few enemies because I give the skills away and I'm far from being monetized. So I'm not making any revenue also for YouTube.
Everything that you see here is through my pocket. through my own money my own pocket and the skill that i made so so you can go grab it right now but the only thing i'm asking stay to the end of this video first because if you don't understand how it works you won't get good videos out of it and the second reason it really pushes my video i'm not asking for your money i'm asking for something way more important than money is your attention and in return i'll give you as much value as i can okay let's get straight into it so first let's look at how these viral ones were actually made because he captions don't tell you the whole story from the original one is from a master student at berkeley it's a music video about claude he said he passed the lyrics onto the song into claude and told it to make a cute animation claude spun up seven opus 5 .5 agents and each one coded the scene at the same time 40 minutes later he got this 2 .8 million views and he put the code on github for free which i really respect
i see sparks of agi in your eyes your circuits make me nervous that's no surprise there was a sudden drop in your training loss Then Donald remade the video and in his caption, it says, I made this with one prompt. I spoke with my computer for five minutes, Claude worked for 12 hours, and I woke up to this.
Almost 4 million views.
Which is a little bit sketch that he says it took 12 hours. It does not take 12 hours. Is it really one prompt or is this a trust me bro situation?
Because we have to be a little bit careful of the people that post on X. They're trying to grab some waves and make things super simple. So I read this prompt.
It's 9 ,900 characters. And in it, he says, I have a CloudMax plan. I want you to spend all the usage and give it roughly $2 ,000 in credits.
Also for AI visual, also for C dance 2 .5 and 11 labs. And we're not going to be using none of those because those are API costs and model costs. And I had Claude go through this video frame by frame, 114 cuts in two minutes and 21 seconds.
And you shot every 1 .2 seconds. And most of it was not basically AI video. It was not a model.
It was mainly motion graphics and motion graphics right now. They cost zero dollars. If you have, if you're using obviously your Claude subscription.
And the third one is from a creator in Japan. Opus 5 .5 wrote code for Blender, which is free. But the girl came from a video model called Minimax.
The key images from Mid Journey and the music from Minimax too. So even the code wants half paid stuff inside.
So the real question of this, how much of this is actually paid for? So I made the same video twice, same song, one paid, one zero dollars. Quick recap, for everyone who's new, Cloud doesn't make videos.
It only writes text. So it writes code, basically a webpage that knows exactly what the screen should look like at every single moment. Then a browser opens at the background and takes a screenshot of every single frame and a free tool called FFmpeg.
glues them all together in one video my song is 2 minutes and 45 seconds at 30 frames a second that's 4950 screenshots and because it's code everything is editable and for example if you don't like the color you can completely switch it change it you want to change a few things fully customizable okay the first step both versions use the same song and claude made it i told claude make me a song about me being thankful to you guys and that i'm not sponsored and that i'm giving skills away weekly and i didn't want myself to be singing i don't want to put that into you that's so i chose a girl would sing like a character claude wrote the lyrics first showed it to me and then i was quite satisfied and then i clicked on generate and it generated me the entire club and here's the crazy part it's made on my laptop a macbook air 16 gigs of ram with a free open source music model called ace step 1 .5 no suno no subscription zero dollars Claude made four versions of the song.
Each one took about two minutes. Then it listened to every single one. It ran them through a transcript mode and checked how many lyrics you can actually understand because AI singers mess up words.
So Claude picked take 53, the one with the clearest lyrics. And one fun fact, the music model kept saying Claude wrong. So Claude spelled its own name C -L -A -W -D in the lyrics.
So the singer would say it right. Then it split the voice from the music and timed every single word. So every word on screen lines exactly when she sings it.
I'll let you listen to it for a bit.
Now version one, the paid one. First, the girl I made on Hicksfield. Just one character sheet, front, side, back, and her expressions.
That cost me around 2 .5 credits. I used Nano Banana. Then Claude took it over.
It connected Kai .ai, which it connects to APIs. And it's a website that you pay as you go. You put the money, a balance.
It doesn't take a subscription. And it's one of the cheapest models of API out there at the moment. But I would love to hear down in the comments what you think.
And then the first thing I tried was making her actually sing. Claude made a lip sync clip and it worked. She sings, she blinks, she moves her head.
But honestly, it didn't look really natural. It looked like every AI avatar. So I told Claude, no singing.
I want more code. Make her out of code. And this is where it kind of went crazy.
Her pictures aren't the video anymore. They're just the raw material. Claude turns her into particles, into code characters.
And it gives really a cool vibe of editing. I can definitely see this in like some music clips. Look at the start.
Her eyes snap open and there's a cursor in it. One prompt types itself and then like expose into 4 ,000 particles, which is insane. The motion graphic in this is crazy.
I barely used any tokens to make the images and the video with Kai .ai. And Claude didn't build it. alone it split the song into 17 seats and sent out 15 builders all working at the same time each one codes its own scene then claude puts everything together and watches it and fixes what's wrong so what did the paid version cost donald said it would cost two thousand dollars in credits for me it cost three dollars plus two credits in hicksville to make the character sheet i honestly didn't even put that much money into it because i wanted to see what if We want to do this monthly.
How would it look like? And to be fair, his video is way more better, but that's kind of the point. You don't need to spend $2 ,000 because most of his video is already code.
And I really doubt that he paid $2 ,000.
the other side no after effects no studio no team just bar writing code building every scene every shape there's a line every frame is a choice easing in easing out give the pixels a voice i don't touch the timeline i don't move a thing it's on autopilot baby laptop and the crazy idea turned it into a skill and it's sitting right here download it install it paste it press go claw does the rest and it runs the whole show every loop is perfect every beat lands right from the single Now the second version, the $0 one.
And for this one, I gave Claude one rule, nothing, no Hicksfield, no PI AI, no images, no AI video, only Claude subscription. I was really strict into this. So basically there was no girl because code can't really draw an anime character.
So Claude made its own character. His name is cursor. And I should have maybe worked on it a little bit more saying, uh, creating.
flawed the mascots it could have easily done that he dances to the beats and he moves accordingly and here's what blew my mind he sings with no limb link uh sync mode just basically again he understood what it's supposed to do and it did way more motion graphic designs he wrote the rule book nothing on the screens stays still for more than 0 .4 seconds so in the video i'm really strict in the guardrails i trained it in a way that We don't want a video that is static and boring, so it has to be vibrant non -stop.
And just like my last video, Claude grades itself. It takes screenshots of every shot, puts them all in one page, and looks at them like it caught the galaxy. I'll let you watch the $0 one.
the other side no after effects no studio no team just bar writing code building every scene every shape there's a line every frame is a choice easing in easing out give the pixels a voice and the crazy idea turned it into a skill and it's sitting right here downloaded install it paste it press go claw does the rest and it runs the whole show every loop is perfect every beat lands right from the same So paid versus $0, which one is better?
Let's go quickly through it. The character, if you want a real character, a girl person, an avatar, I think it's okay to spend a few credits because most of the work will be done in motion graphic. I think just creating a character would be fine.
And then we turn that character into code and we can have that character do a lot of things in code, basically. My opinion, I would say a mix of both. So in terms of subscription of your cloud, how much do they use in tokens?
So if you want to really start with this, I would start definitely with the $0 one and give it a small task. Don't go for a big prompt immediately. Ask it to make you a 15 second one.
But the one that would cost you nothing is basically the song. I'll definitely recommend for you to give it a try. It's really cool.
Now, how to install it. Step one, go to my school community. It's free.
Link is in the description. Step two, find a post of this video specifically with the same title. There is a link in my school.
If you go to my free resources, you will find the video and it will take you to the Google Drive. Once you open Google Drive, you download the folder. Step three, open Cloud Code, open the install prompt.
It will be also in the Google Drive. Copy everything, paste it into Cloud and hit enter. It sets up all the free tools for you.
So to answer the question from the comments, you don't have to install Ace, Step or Hyperframes yourself. It's all in the skill pack. Step four, start a new Cloud Code session.
So the skill basically loads. And then you have to use Opus 5 .5. These are big builds, so you don't go with the cheap model, especially if you want the aesthetic look.
If you don't know how to switch model, you just type slash model and then you'll see pop up and you pick Opus 5 .5. And one thing, the music model takes a bit of space. So you got to make sure you have space for that.
And if you're on the pro, start definitely with a short video, like 30 seconds, not a full song. And to the motion designers in my comments who said it's really bad, I get it. And honestly, a lot of AI motion graphics do look the same.
Same center of text, same gradients. But that's because nobody's directing it. Today, I direct it.
Claude did the work. I decided what's good. and what's meant and i'm not an expert so if you're a motion graphic expert you could definitely have a way better skill than mine so again the skill is free in my school community link is in the description i make your own video or song i would love to see that in the school if you guys can post and share it thank you so much for staying all the way to the end of this video seriously it really helps me a lot i it's just unbelievable that i gained 4 000 subscribers tell me in the comments which one do you like the more the paid one or the zero dollar one And if you haven't hit the follow, please do.
And I'll see you on the next one.
