Big Idea
The argument in one line.
ChatGPT's Codex model, paired with the ChatCut plugin, can take a written brief and raw footage and produce a reviewable, editable video cut, if you brief it like a real editor and catch its mistakes mid-task.
Who This Is For
Read if. Skip if.
READ IF YOU ARE…
A solo creator or marketer who edits their own VSLs or talking-head videos and wants to test whether an AI agent can take a usable first pass.
Someone who already uses ChatGPT or Codex and is curious what plugin-connected agents can do beyond writing code.
A creator comfortable giving a written brief (audience, length, format, what to keep or cut) and iterating with follow-up instructions instead of clicking through a timeline.
SKIP IF…
You need 4K export or broadcast-quality finishing, ChatCut's cloud export currently caps at 1080p.
You're not willing to spend ChatGPT or Codex usage credits on generation, this isn't a free render.
You want full manual control over every cut, the whole pitch here is handing first-pass editorial judgment to the agent.
TL;DR
The full version, fast.
ChatGPT's Codex model plus the ChatCut plugin can take raw footage and a written brief, audience, length, format, what to keep, and produce a cut: trimming silences, switching between camera and screen, and adding motion graphics from ChatCut's built-in library. The creator tested it on a real VSL, hit a stalled plugin connection and his own mix-up of source files, and corrected both with plain-language follow-ups rather than restarting. The edit took about ten minutes versus an estimated 30-45 minutes by hand. Real limits: desktop app only, 1080p export cap, and every pass spends usage credits, but the verdict was a yes, he'd publish the output.

Braydon opens with the premise that AI has lagged at video editing until now, and previews the loop: brief it, let it cut, review, revise, export.
00:26 – 01:11
02 · The ChatCut workflow, in one line
He lays out the four-step flow and what a brief needs to include: audience, target length, format, and what raw footage must be kept versus cut.
01:11 – 01:46
03 · Download ChatGPT desktop (not the web app)
He sends viewers to chatgpt.com to get the desktop app, since ChatCut requires Codex, ChatGPT's coding model, which only runs in the desktop client.
01:46 – 04:48
04 · Switch to Codex, install ChatCut, write the brief
Inside ChatGPT desktop he switches to Codex, finds the ChatCut plugin, tours its advertised capabilities, creates a project, uploads a zip of raw footage, and writes the editing brief.
04:48 – 05:36
05 · First run: ChatCut isn't registered yet
The first attempt stalls because ChatCut needs an account. He signs in with Google, but the session doesn't pick up the connection until he fully quits and relaunches the desktop app.
05:36 – 07:20
06 · Fixing a mistake without starting over
After relaunching, ChatCut starts uploading clips. Braydon catches that he gave it the wrong source file and tells it in plain language, the agent pauses until he supplies the correct two recordings.
07:20 – 08:25
07 · Inside ChatCut's asset library
While the edit runs, he tours ChatCut's built-in library, data-visualization templates, sound effects, and transitions, available to the agent through the plugin connection.
08:25 – 10:45
08 · The finished VSL, reviewed
About ten minutes after the brief, the cut is done: silences removed, camera/screen cuts, motion graphics and testimonial callouts layered in. He narrates the result against his original brief.
10:45 – 12:10
09 · Three catches before you rely on this
He lists the limits: desktop-agent only, 1080p export cap, and every generation pass spends credits. His verdict: about ten minutes of work that would've taken 30-45 minutes by hand, and yes, he'd post it.
12:10 – 12:37
10 · Plugging the free community
He closes by restating the two practical lessons, brief it like an editor, review every cut, then points viewers to his free Skool community and the Four Days to AI Fluency program.
Atomic Insights
Lines worth screenshotting.
ChatCut only works through ChatGPT's desktop app, not the web version, because it plugs into Codex, ChatGPT's coding-model interface.
A usable AI editing brief specifies audience, target length, format, and exactly which material must stay untouched in the cut.
When a plugin connection stalls mid-session, a full quit-and-relaunch of the desktop app is often the fix, not a sign of a broken tool.
Correcting an AI editing agent mid-task takes plain language, saying the wrong files were uploaded was enough to make it pause and wait for the right ones.
ChatCut ships its own library of chart templates, sound effects, and transitions, which is what lets the agent add motion graphics without the user sourcing assets separately.
A roughly 10-minute AI edit replaced what the creator estimated as 30 to 45 minutes of manual cutting in a tool like CapCut.
Cloud export through ChatCut currently caps at 1080p, 4K editing still requires a traditional desktop workflow.
Every edit and generation pass through ChatCut spends ChatGPT usage credits, it is not a free render even though no separate editing tool gets purchased.
The honest test for an AI-edited video isn't whether the process looked impressive while running, it's whether you'd publish the result unedited.
Giving feedback one fix at a time, rather than a long list of changes at once, is how the creator says he keeps revisions manageable.
Takeaway
Brief the agent like a real editor
AI EDITING WORKFLOW
Treating ChatGPT's Codex and the ChatCut plugin like a hired editor, clear brief up front, plain-language fixes mid-task, honest review before export, turned a raw VSL into a publishable cut in about ten minutes.
02The ChatCut workflow, in one line
An AI video edit runs in four stages: write a brief, let the agent cut, review the output, then revise and export, treat it like directing an editor, not clicking a timeline.
A usable brief specifies four things up front: the audience, the target length, the format, and which raw material must survive the cut untouched.
03Download ChatGPT desktop (not the web app)
ChatCut only runs through ChatGPT's desktop app, the web version of ChatGPT cannot access it, so the starting point is downloading the desktop client, not opening a browser tab.
Codex, ChatGPT's coding model, is the interface that plugins like ChatCut install into, even though no actual coding happens in this workflow.
04Switch to Codex, install ChatCut, write the brief
Plugins get found by name search under a dedicated menu inside Codex, the same install pattern applies to any Codex-connected tool, not just ChatCut.
A video-editing brief should name the deliverable's purpose, the source types to cut between, and the explicit edits wanted, silence removal, motion graphics, music.
05First run: ChatCut isn't registered yet
A first-time plugin connection can silently stall mid-session, after logging in, the running chat often needs a full quit-and-relaunch before it recognizes the new permission.
Don't assume a stalled agent is broken, a one-line follow-up prompt after reconnecting is often enough to pick the task back up.
06Fixing a mistake without starting over
Catching and naming a mistake mid-task, like uploading the wrong files, doesn't require restarting the whole job, the agent paused and waited for the correct files instead of failing silently.
Plain language corrections work, no special syntax needed, stating the wrong files were given was enough for the agent to pause and re-plan.
07Inside ChatCut's asset library
A plugin that ships its own built-in asset library, chart templates, sound effects, transitions, is what lets an agent produce motion graphics on its own, rather than just trimming clips.
Having a stocked asset library baked into the tool removes the separate step of hunting down graphics or sound effects before editing can start.
08The finished VSL, reviewed
A roughly 10-minute agent run produced camera/screen cuts, trimmed silences, and inserted motion graphics, work the creator estimated would take 30-45 minutes by hand in a manual editor.
Judge the output by whether you'd actually publish it unedited, not by whether the process looked impressive while running.
09Three catches before you rely on this
Three real limits to plan around: the agent only works through the desktop app (not the web chat), cloud export caps at 1080p, and every edit or generation pass spends usage credits.
The credits spent are described as minimal compared to paying for a separate video editing tool or hiring an editor, but it is not a free render.

What if you could take a tool like ChatGPT and have it edit videos for you? Now, in the past, AI has been really amazing at doing things like creating websites, coding unique tools, but it has fallen behind on being able to edit videos until now. In this video, I'm going to show you how to take ChatGPT and feed it raw footage, and it will be able to do things like take out silences, be able to do cuts for you, and even add motion graphics.
Let's dive right in. All right guys, let's waste no more time and let's actually learn how we can go edit videos with chat GBT So in order to do this we are obviously going to go need a chat GBT account and we are going to use a plug -in called chat cut and Basically, what we're gonna do is we're gonna go take a brief or take the videos that you have We are then gonna have chat GBT go cut it and then we are gonna be able to review it then make any revisions that we have, and then go export it.
And so in order to do this, we are going to need to know the audience that we are going to be creating the video for. We need to give it the length of the video and what it needs to be at. We need to give it the format.
We need to be able to keep the full example and then remove any restarts or pauses. Now, to just jump right in, first off, you are going to need a ChatGBT account. So you're just going to want to go to ChatGBT .com and you are going to want to download the ChatGBT desktop.
Now, the reason for that is because we are going to be using a tool called Codex. It is ChatGBT's coding model.
And if you just come to their website right here, you can download Mac OS or on your Windows and be able to use the ChatGBT desktop app. Now, once you're in here, you're going to just switch over from ChatGBT into Codex, just like that. And this is just the coding version of ChatGBT.
don't worry you don't need to be a coder you just need to be in this coding version now the very first thing that we're going to need to do is we're going to need to come into plugins and then we're going to want to go up here to the top and look up chat Now Chaka is a plugin for ChatGPT that will allow you to actually download and edit videos.
And so you can see right here, it can do asset import. It can do things like plugin basics, create motion graphics, digital human exports, do music, multi -cam sync, shader gen, verification, video gen, and much, much more. So it's got all of these really, really awesome tools.
And all we're going to need to do is click on this try now button. Now you can see right here, we don't have any specific projects set up. If you're unfamiliar with projects, it's just.
a folder on your computer that will allow you to continue to work on the same files over and over and over again. So what we're going to do is we're just going to go ahead and choose project, we're going to do a new project, and I'm going to say chat GBT. editor and then create the project and trust the folder now you can see right here it says help me connect to chat cut web and then we can go put in our prompt but before we dive in and put in our prompt i want to go upload our files here so we're going to go into my downloads we are going to go into the zip file give it that zip file here which has my screen recording and my video recording for a VSL that I want to put on one of my landing pages and I'm gonna just go ahead and put in this basic prompt and don't worry if you're in my school community I'll put the prompt in my school community so that you can follow along too but this is all I'm gonna say hey I have just given you a zip file inside of that zip file you're going to see a screen recording but also a talking head recording from my camera view
this is going to be a vsl for my landing page promoting the amplify ai lab what i would like for you to do is figure out when to go use the face and when to go use the screen recording and then also go take out silences go do the correct cuts and go add in screens or motion graphics and animations that would then make the video more intriguing i'd be totally okay if you added a soft music track in the background just to keep people's attention and i would be super happy with whatever you come up with and so right there i'm just going to go throw that prompt into ChatGPT right here.
I'm on six point one sole. We'll just go to medium here. I don't see any reason to be any higher than that.
So six point one sole medium. And then we're going to go ahead and press send. Now, what chat is going to do or chat cut is going to do is it's first going to go take a look at these videos in this folder.
And then from there, it's going to go do all of the editing, the transcripts, the cutting and all that kind of stuff as well. So you can see I'm using the chat cut editing workflow to connect chat cut. web inspect both recordings and build a polished vsl with tighter pacing purposeful camera and screen cuts and supporting graphics so we're going to let that sit right there see what it does and i'll give you updates along the way Now, one thing to make known is it just says right here, hey, it looks like Chat Cup Web isn't registered yet.
I'm setting up the hosted connection. It will need your Chat Cut sign in. So I don't have a Chat Cut account yet.
So you're seeing this literally from the ground up. And what it did is it opened up this page here. And all I'm going to do is go connect with Google and go get me registered for a free account to then connect to my Codex account.
all right and for transparency i just wanted to show you how the rest of this chat went so i went and connected my gmail account and i said i think i just connected i didn't have to pay anything extra for chat cut and then it said right here okay yes chat cut confirmed you're successfully logged in the editing tools haven't loaded into this session yet reopen this chat and then send continue the vsl so i just copied and paste continued the vsl and it said the chat cut sign has succeeded but the running chat still supports unknown mcp server chat cut i can't begin until editing until code loads the connection, fully quit and relaunch Codex, then reopen this chat and then continue the VSL.
So I guess I need to go reload the plugin. Sometimes this happens when you're connecting MCPs or integrations that Codex or ChatDBT needs to do a full refresh in order to know that that connection has been made. All right, and just like that, I reloaded my ChatGPT desktop app, and I said continue to the VSL, and it says, great, I'll check the connection.
And then what it did is it actually opened up a little tab over here so that it can start to go work on the video editor. Now, how ChatCut works is it goes and uploads this browser, and then you can see inside of the browser, it's then gonna go upload the clips. And once it has the clips, it's able to go do things like grand transcriptions, go do the cutting, add motion graphics, and many, many more.
So you'll actually be able to see it work. right here on the side as it's going through and working on these different things so that you can watch it in real time and actually go see its progress. I did want to jump in real quick too because I actually made a mistake and I just wanted to make you aware of it.
Not that it would hinder your journey on trying to edit videos, but I did want to just show you how easy it is to go make course corrections so that you don't feel like you have to start over every time. So what had happened is I had given it a recording from the video software that I use and I actually gave it the screen recording with my face on top of it instead of two separate recordings and so what i did is i downloaded those two individual recordings i have the camera and i have the screen you could see there was the messed up one right there and then i just said hey i gave you the wrong recordings and it said no worries i'm gonna go ahead and pause the edit until i have the correct screen recordings and then we'll get started and then i give it the two correct screen recordings right here so here's my camera view and then here's the screen view and now it has both of those in its editor and it will start working on those for me so just wanted to to pause and say that it took
if you mess up in fact it's actually really intuitive and so if you do mess up you can just come back and say hey sorry real quick I gave you the wrong things I need to start over hey I need to give you some additional information and ChatGPT does a phenomenal job pausing and waiting until it has all the information needed and while it's still editing I just want to show you what chat cut is it's actually a pretty cool tool that you can go pay for by itself but because of the connector you can use it with a tool like ChatGPT for free and inside of this chat cut tab you can actually see has a full library of all of these infographics and motion graphics that you can use so for example if we go over here to data visualization it's got these cool bar graphs and has this climbing scaling graph right there and it's got these pie charts and it has all of these accessible to it so that it can actually go create these motion graphics for you it also has things like all these amazing sound effects that it can use it has a bunch of different transitions that it can use that way it can go do the best video editing possible so this is why this tool is so cool because it actually
allows you to be able to go use some of these different transitions these effects these motion graphics to be able to really bring your video to life and because we're connecting it with chat CBT and have the plug -in installed it knows that all of this is there and available to it so that it can do the best job possible so it looks like it's going through and still making some edits it's already taken out some silences for us and we'll let it continue to go create what it needs to and we'll come back when it's done Okay, so it looks like the video is done and that took probably about 10 minutes, which is much faster than I thought.
And you can see right over here, it still has us in the browser and let's go see how it actually did. Hey, if you've just landed on this video, you're probably trying to find a place to actually learn AI because here's the reality. There is a bunch of tutorials online about what AI is, but does it actually drive a meaningful change and impact to your life or to your business?
Now, my name is Braden Carter and I speak and consult on AI and specifically how to use it to save time, save money or make more money. And just recently I did a retreat where I was able to teach business owners on how to use AI and they were able to see results pretty quick. In fact, you can see this testimonial right here.
Somebody said it made me feel like I'm way too old to learn. AI, but this was dumbed down to my level. It was built a huge confidence.
Now I know I can do things. And then we had many more. I built a $5 ,000 website in 20 minutes.
I went from learning alone to clarity. I built a recovery app. I was able to write books with AI and many, many more.
I realized that a lot of people don't know where to start with AI. So what I created is the four days to AI fluency, where I've come up with four pillars that if you can just recognize these individual pillars will actually help you know how to utilize AI.
There is discovery, integration, workflows, and agentic AI. And this is exactly what I taught those business owners in this room. And I want to give it to you for free.
You just got to come over to my school community and join for free. We have over 242 members all over the globe right now that are part of the school community. And if you come over to the classroom, you can see there is the four days to AI fluency.
Well, you'll learn how to use AI to do discovery and research. You'll learn how to integrate it with tools. You'll learn how to create automations and workflow.
And in day four, literally in four days, you'll learn how to create AI agents that will drive meaningful impact to your business. So if this is something that you want, again, it's completely free, no strings attached. You can go to my school link below and all you'll need to do is join and it's all yours.
We'll see you in the school community. And so right there, you can see it did a really, really good job. It went and added motion graphics.
It went from my talking head, went to my screen, and it just made it feel a little bit more professional. And all we had to do, is take the video put it in the chat CBT and chat CBT took care of the rest now as you're doing this a couple things to watch out for this is a desktop agent only you won't be able to do this inside of the web version of chat CBT you'll want to make sure that you do download the desktop app another thing to understand is if you're going to only use chat CBT you won't be able to do the 4k video editing you will only be able to do 1080p And then the last thing is generation will do and use credits.
So don't feel like this is a completely free tool. It is going to pull from your credits or from your usage from ChatGPT, but you're not having to go pay for a video editor or video tool. And the amount of credits that it's using is minimal compared to what it used to be.
Now, my verdict, this took about 10 minutes and it did a really, really good job. In fact, I probably would have had to hire somebody out or spend 30 to 45 minutes of my own time in a tool like CapCut to be able to go make. this happen.
Now, I didn't use any fixes in the specific video. I think it did a pretty good job by itself. But if you had specific designs that you wanted to use or specific branding that you wanted to use, you would be able to go in and suggest those fixes and it would go make those fixes for you.
And would I post this? Absolutely. In fact, I'm considering putting this on my landing page right now so that I can be able to have that VSL sales letter just to be able to say, hey, this is my community and so much more.
So anyways, a couple of takeaways. Give it a brief like an editor. You're going to want.
to make sure that you're communicating and giving it all that it needs to you can actually go watch every cut which is really really cool and if you needed to you would be able to make one fix at a time but guys thank you so much for tuning into today's video and following along with me if you have any other questions or if you want me to make other videos make sure to comment down below what you'd like to see and again just like we showed in this video if you want to come hang out in my school community if you want the four days to AI fluency for free come join and hang out but guys don't forget to like and subscribe to this channel for more AI tips and tricks and we'll see you in the next video.
