Big Idea

The argument in one line.

ChatGPT's Codex agent can now assemble a finished, captioned video with motion graphics from raw footage, a free transcript, and a style reference, replacing manual editing with one written prompt.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • A solo creator, agent, or coach with no editing skill who records single-take talking-head footage and wants it to look professionally animated.
  • Someone already paying for a ChatGPT Plus/Codex plan who wants to know what else that subscription can replace.
  • A local-service business (real estate, coaching, consulting) that needs captioned explainer videos with data call-outs but can't justify hiring an editor.
SKIP IF…
  • You already have a paid editing workflow you're happy with and aren't looking to swap tools.
  • You need frame-by-frame manual control over cuts and transitions; this is a describe-what-you-want workflow, not a timeline editor.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

A real estate creator shows a four-tool pipeline for editing video entirely inside ChatGPT. First, install the ChatCut plugin from ChatGPT's settings and log into chatcut.io for free. Second, get a free SRT transcript of the raw footage from TurboScribe, which times every word to the second. Third, browse Dribbble for a motion-graphics style to copy. Then drop the raw video, the SRT file, and the Dribbble link into Codex with a plain-English prompt describing the style and asking it to remove mess-ups. Codex returns a captioned, animated edit, exportable at 1080p for free or 4K through the ChatCut desktop app.

Chapters

Where the time goes.

00:00 – 00:19

01 · Cold open: editing as the barrier

States the premise: ChatGPT can now edit video like a professional, including motion graphics.

00:19 – 00:46

02 · Install the ChatCut plugin

Opens ChatGPT's settings, goes to Plugins, searches for and installs ChatCut.

00:46 – 01:34

03 · Log into ChatCut free, restart ChatGPT

Opens chatcut.io in a browser, reviews the free tier (basic editing, AI captions, AI avatars, 60 min export limit), logs in with Google, then fully restarts ChatGPT desktop.

01:34 – 02:01

04 · The raw footage

Shows the unedited source clip: a single-take, talking-head real estate video with slip-ups and pauses left in.

02:01 – 02:16

05 · Switch to Codex and attach the video

Moves from ChatGPT to Codex and drops the raw video file in as an attachment.

02:16 – 03:30

06 · Free SRT transcript from TurboScribe

Uploads the same raw video to TurboScribe, picks the most-accurate transcription mode, transcribes it, then exports and downloads the SRT subtitle file.

03:30 – 04:49

07 · Motion-graphics ideas from Dribbble

Drags the SRT into Codex, then browses Dribbble for motion-graphics styles by searching the term directly, picking one design to use as inspiration.

04:49 – 06:01

08 · The one-sentence Codex prompt

Writes a plain-English prompt in Codex: attached video and SRT, edit with @ChatCut, add full motion graphics using the Dribbble link's shading/color/typography as inspiration, make it one fluid polished video, remove mess-ups and dead space.

06:01 – 07:07

09 · The finished edit plays back

Codex returns the edited video inside its own player, cut cleanly with animated motion graphics popping in to match the spoken content.

07:07 – 07:46

10 · Export limits: 1080p vs 4K

Codex exports cap at 1080p; 4K export requires the separate ChatCut desktop app, which also offers a one-click 'summarize into a 60-second short' feature.

07:46 – 08:05

11 · Sign-off

Recaps that the whole point was editing a professional-looking video without manual skill, then asks viewers to comment if they've tried it.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • ChatGPT's Codex can now take a raw video, a transcript, and a style reference, and return a captioned, motion-graphics edit from a single written prompt.
  • The ChatCut plugin is installed from inside ChatGPT's own settings menu, under Plugins, not as a separate app download.
  • TurboScribe gives three free transcriptions a day and times every spoken word to the second, which is what lets Codex sync captions and graphics to speech.
  • Dribbble doubles as a free motion-graphics style library: search a term like 'motion graphics' and reuse any result as inspiration, not just a portfolio site.
  • The prompt that produced the whole edit was one plain sentence: attach the video and SRT, name ChatCut, link a Dribbble style, and ask for full motion graphics with mess-ups removed.
  • Exports inside Codex cap at 1080p; 4K export requires switching to the separate ChatCut desktop app, which also has a one-click 'summarize into a 60-second short' feature.
  • The entire workflow runs on an existing ChatGPT/Codex subscription; the only new cost is the Codex usage the edit itself consumes, since ChatCut, TurboScribe, and Dribbble are all free at this tier.
Takeaway

A free tool chain can caption and animate raw footage for you.

WHAT TO LEARN

Timing the transcript and sourcing a style reference are the two inputs that let an AI agent assemble a finished edit, so the actual editing skill moves from cutting footage to writing a clear prompt and gathering good source material.

02Install the ChatCut plugin
  • A video-editing capability can live inside a chat tool's plugin menu rather than requiring a separate app install.
03Log into ChatCut free, restart ChatGPT
  • Free tiers of AI tools are worth checking directly against the claimed limits (export length, credits) before assuming a paid plan is required.
  • Fully restarting a host app after installing a new plugin is a real prerequisite, not an optional step, for the integration to register.
04The raw footage
  • A single unedited take with visible mistakes left in is still usable raw material; the editing tool is what's responsible for removing slip-ups and dead space.
06Free SRT transcript from TurboScribe
  • A word-level-timed transcript (SRT) is the input that lets an AI editor sync captions and graphics to speech; without it, timing has to be guessed.
  • Picking the most-accurate transcription mode over the fastest one matters when the transcript's timing feeds directly into the final edit.
07Motion-graphics ideas from Dribbble
  • A design portfolio site doubles as a free style library when searched by format term instead of browsed passively for inspiration.
  • Picking one concrete reference design, rather than describing a style in the abstract, gives an AI agent something exact to imitate.
08The one-sentence Codex prompt
  • Vague, plain-English prompts work for agentic tools when they're paired with a concrete asset to point at, like a reference link or attached file.
  • Naming the specific plugin (@ChatCut) inside the prompt is what routes the request to the right tool rather than a generic response.
10Export limits: 1080p vs 4K
  • Free tiers commonly gate the highest-value output (here, 4K export) behind a second product, so confirm the real deliverable's resolution before relying on the free path.

One of the biggest barriers that people have when it comes to content creation is video editing. So in this video, I'm going to show you how to use ChatGPT to edit videos like a professional and go crazy with the edits and even throw in things that look like this. So make sure you keep it locked and check out the entire video.
Let's get into it. Okay, so the first thing that you need to do is open your ChatGPT desktop. Second, come down here to the left -hand side.
Click here. and then go to settings now once you have settings open the next thing that you need to click on is plugins then you come here to the search plugins and you type in chatcut now obviously i already have it installed but you need to install this that's the first step next you need to open up a web browsing tab and type in chatcut on google or go to chatcut .io and once you open it it'll look something like this now I'm using the free version.
None of this will cost you anything, okay? It will cost you your codex usage, but as far as anything outside of that, it is pretty much free. This is all you need.
So as you can see here, basic editing and exports, AI images, motion graphics, AI captures and music, AI avatars, web export limit, 60 minutes total. You need to come up here to try now and you need to log in. I logged in using my Google account.
You can continue with your email, whatever works for you, but just log in, create an account. The next thing that you need to do is exit out of chat GPT. So you need to completely close it and restart it.
So now that chat cut is installed and you're logged in on your web browser, now you just need a video. So I'm going to show you the video that I'm going to use. So this is a video for my real estate channel and it's just a basic talking head video.
There's nothing in it pretty much. It's just a one shot take with mess up, slip ups, pause this, just me talking about this particular real estate down payment assistance.
It's just one long video. So, the first thing that you need to do is come over here to the left hand side and click from chat GPT to Codex. Now, what I'm going to do I'm going to drop this video into Codex.
So now, as you can see my video is attached in Codex. Here's the next thing that you need to do and this will make... Codex's or ChatGPT's job a lot easier.
You're gonna go to a website called TurboScribe, okay? It is free. You can use it up to three times a day, totally free.
And what this does is it takes your words and it matches the time to your words by the second. So you're gonna log in. Okay, so once your account is created, you need to come up here to the right -hand side and you need to click Transcribe Files.
I'm going to take the same video that I dropped in the codex the unedited version and I'm going to drop it in here and I'm going to transcribe it. So it's doing this thing and then I'm going to come down here and click well as in most accurate and then I'm going to click transcribe. So as you can see the video is transcribing and once it's done I'll show you what to do next.
Okay so once it is done transcribing you click on these three dots right here and then you go to export transcript. And you need to get the SRT file. We're going to click download.
So once you have the SRT file, you drag and you drop that also into Codex. Now, here's the next thing. We need to get the motion graphic ideas.
You need to look up something called Dribbble. It is Dribbble .com. And that's with several B's.
D -R -I -B -B -B -L -E. You come to Dribbble. Click on that.
And I will also put the link to that in the description. You need to log in or you know create an account it's totally free. And what you're going to do is you're going to come into the right here where it says what type of design are you interested in and you're just going to type in motion graphics.
Here you can see that there are different ideas of motion graphics and editing styles that you can choose from. So you choose the one that works best for you. I'm going to go through these and I'm going to find one that works.
So as you can see there are different ones with phones, there's different ones with different types of buttons and transitions. There's a lot of different things that can be used from these totally free.
These are just inspiration that you can use into your videos. So, I'm going to let's just say for example I'm going to use this one right here. So, as you can see this is what it pretty much looks like just as the idea.
So, you're going to copy and paste this into Codex and you're going to tell it that I want to use this as inspiration. So, let me hop over to Codex I'm going to show you the prompt that I'm going to put in. Okay, so I know that a lot of people are struggling with prompts and you don't have to be that detailed or it's not a certain prompt that you have to use just tell it what you want.
So, I told Codex see attached video and SRT file. I want you to edit this video using chat cut. Now, when you type chat cut you actually need to type at and then chat cut so that it selects it right here in this menu right here just like that.
And then I went further saying I want full motion graphics and animations. I put the link from here into this. Take a look at the link video to see all the design elements that I like.
The shading, the color, the transparency, typography, everything that's in this video I want to use for inspiration for my video. Make sure it's one fluid video, make it polished. Now also, remove any mess ups and spacing.
Okay, so I'm going to also add that. Now, we're going to send it off to Codex and we're going to see what Codex puts together quickly. Okay, so I'm back and Codex is pretty much done and it opened up the editor.
So I'm going to just play it a little bit so that you can kind of get an idea of what it could do and the possibilities of this thing and how simple that is. And you can pretty much fire your video editor.
So this is a down payment assistance video. It opens up with me just with the introduction. And then as you can see, it throws in the motion graphics and it's animated as well.
So it makes the video a lot cleaner, a lot easier to look at without you having to have real editing skills. You can record something like this from a cell phone and it can show these animations, throw these animations up and make your video look a lot more professional. So just to give you more ideas, it goes in and out.
It added, let's see. So as you can see how everything just pops in. based on what I'm talking about from the SRT file.
And again, I didn't pay for this program. I only used it within Codex and it only used the usage. Now, one last caveat before you actually jump into this, when you go to export, when you export within Codex, you can only do 1080p.
It won't let you do 4K. In order to do 4K, you need to download the Chatcut desktop. okay the chat cut desktop actually links into your codex and then from here so as you can see it's literally this is actually a short that i created which you can tell it once your video is done to sum your video up into a 60 second short and you can make that as well but this is the only way that you can get this done in 4k so you export it straight to your desktop and you're done so i just wanted to keep this video simple to edit a video and make it professional without you having to do anything.
You just tell it what you want. Let me know what you all think down in the comments and if you actually have used this. Thanks for watching.
