Big Idea
The argument in one line.
Self-concept, not circumstance, decides what a person notices, expects, and prepares for, so changing results starts with deliberately practicing the identity of someone who already has them.
Who This Is For
Read if. Skip if.
READ IF YOU ARE…
You have a specific goal (money, a relationship, a body of work) that hasn't materialized yet and you want a mindset framework, not just tactics, for closing the gap.
You're drawn to self-concept, law of assumption, or manifestation content and want a structured way to practice it instead of just consuming more of it.
You want a simple 30-day exercise you can start tonight rather than an abstract philosophy.
SKIP IF…
You're looking for tactical, step-by-step execution advice (marketing, sales, fitness programming) — this stays entirely at the mindset and identity level.
You want the claims backed by data or research citations — none are offered here, the case is made through personal story and repetition.
TL;DR
The full version, fast.
Shaun Hines argues that results follow identity, not the other way around: your self-concept sets your expectations, your expectations shape which opportunities and habits you notice, and those habits eventually produce your results. He traces the idea to Earl Nightingale tapes his father played on childhood commutes, then shows it in practice — staying quiet about an unfinished goal to protect it from other people's doubt, treating every person as the most important person on earth, and giving your intended identity something concrete to do right now, like tipping generously if you see yourself as generous. He closes with a 30-day exercise: pick one goal, write it as already accomplished exactly 30 days out, and rehearse the feeling of having it daily until the date arrives.

02 · The father's truck and Earl Nightingale
Personal story: riding to school listening to his father's Nightingale cassette tapes in a 1991 Nissan pickup, and the idea that your environment mirrors your identity.
03:23 – 06:14
03 · Identity shapes reality
A worthy goal is what separates success from failure; attitude drives behavior, behavior becomes evidence, and the cycle becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

05 · How the modern world hijacks your attitude
Notifications, traffic, and the news cycle quietly set your emotional baseline; staying silent about an unfinished goal protects it from other people's doubt.
11:22 – 13:44
06 · Gratitude, expectancy, and practicing your identity
Luck as preparedness meeting opportunity; give your intended identity something concrete to do now (tipping, charity, taking on leadership).

08 · Bulletproof self-concept, the rebrand, and the CTA
Closing thesis restated, the channel's rename from 'Here Nor There' to Shaun Hines, and a pitch for the Interverse coaching program.
Atomic Insights
Lines worth screenshotting.
Acting like the person you want to become, consistently and in every situation, is what gradually turns you into that person.
Attitude drives behavior, behavior becomes evidence of identity, and repeating that cycle is what creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The same opportunity can produce two completely different outcomes for two people because each meets it with a different level of preparation and expectation.
A resilient identity shows up in how you act under pressure, not in reciting affirmations in front of a mirror.
Treating every person you meet as the most important person on earth is a low-cost habit that changes how people respond to you.
Silence about an unfinished goal protects it from other people's doubt, which usually reflects the bets they haven't placed on themselves.
Luck is what happens when preparedness meets opportunity, and opportunity is already constant, so the daily work is preparation.
Give your intended identity something concrete to do now: tip generously if you want a generous identity, take on responsibility now if you want a leadership identity.
A 30-day goal exercise works by writing the outcome as already true, dated exactly 30 days out, then describing the feeling of having it in vivid detail.
The feeling of already having a result does more work in this kind of exercise than any plan for how it will happen.
Habits reveal your true expectations faster than your stated goals do, because preparation shows what you actually believe will happen.
Takeaway
Identity comes first. Results are just the evidence.
WHAT TO LEARN
Your self-concept sets your expectations, your expectations shape which habits and opportunities you notice, and a 30-day written exercise is the concrete tool for changing all three.
01Cold open: before you can do, you must be
Acting like the person you want to become, consistently and in every situation, is what gradually turns you into that person.
Whatever goal you're chasing requires you to become someone you've never been before you can succeed at it.
02The father's truck and Earl Nightingale
A single repeated idea, absorbed early and often, can quietly become your operating philosophy decades later.
03Identity shapes reality
Having a clear, worthy goal is what separates people who succeed from people who don't, more than any single skill or resource.
Attitude drives behavior, behavior becomes evidence of identity, and repeating that cycle is what creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.
04The bulletproof mind test
A resilient identity is built by how you act under pressure, not by reciting affirmations in a mirror.
Treating every person you interact with as the most important person on earth is a low-cost habit that reliably changes how people respond to you.
05How the modern world hijacks your attitude
Letting notifications, traffic, and headlines set your emotional baseline each morning hands control of your identity to random daily events.
06Gratitude, expectancy, and practicing your identity
Give your intended identity something concrete to do now: tip generously if you see yourself as generous, take on responsibility now if you see yourself as a leader.
Luck is preparedness meeting opportunity, so the daily practice is preparing, since opportunity is already constant.
07The 30-day identity exercise
Pick one goal you can clearly judge pass or fail on in 30 days, then write it down dated exactly 30 days out, written as though it already happened.
Describe the feeling of already having the result in specific, vivid detail — the feeling is what does the work, not the mechanism of how it happens.
Practice being the person who already achieved it every day between now and the 30-day mark: the same discipline, consistency, and confidence the goal requires.
08Bulletproof self-concept, the rebrand, and the CTA
A bulletproof self-concept comes from knowing where you're headed and expecting to arrive regardless of which conditions show up along the way.

Terms worth knowing.
Self-concept
The belief a person holds about who they are, which sets the ceiling for what they expect from life and what they notice as available to them.
Law of assumption
The idea that assuming a desired outcome is already true, and acting from that assumption, is what brings the outcome into reality.

If you can get a mental image of the person you would most like to become, begin now to act as that person would act in everything you do. Gradually, imperceptibly, you will actually become that person. It goes back to what the great German poet and philosopher Goethe once said, before you can do something, you must first be something.
Before you can do what you would most like to do, you must first become the person who can do it. Before you can do something, you must be something. Whatever goal you're trying to accomplish in your life right now requires you to be someone that you've never been before to be successful.
You must carry the attitude of success before it shows up in any area of your life. And I learned that lesson long before I ever knew what the word self -concept or identity even meant. That quote was drilled into my mind as a 10 year old boy.
whenever I hopped into my father's green 1991 Nissan pickup truck, listening to the tapes of a wise man with a distinctly deep voice as we made our way to my school bus stop each and every morning. I've always remembered the message throughout my life, but it would take years of experience for me to understand what it actually meant.
Follow along through the entirety of today's lesson and you will learn exactly how to identify the habits that are limiting you from experiencing success in your own life goals. You will have a clear understanding that will reinforce a bulletproof mindset that shields you from all the negativity and all the setbacks that are bound to show up in your life when you're moving closer and closer to your goals.
But yeah, that simple but powerful quote that we started this conversation with symbolizes the power of your self -concept in action. And it came from the mind of Earl Nightingale. That's who my father was learning the laws of the mind from decades ago when he was flipping through this very book every single night.
at the same age that I am today. I used to witness him listening to these white cassette tapes back in 1990, 1991. Every single where we went and I got a front row seat to witness the endless assist that came along with everything that he touched after that.
Thinking back, the mentors and the teachers of the day were guiding ambitious people on how to master their minds through discipline, through integrity, and through a strong understanding of one universal law without really calling it a law. Your environment. is always a relentless mirror of yourself.
But of course, as a 10 -year -old boy, the idea that my attitude could shape the world around me instead of it being the other way around was a little bit too complex for me to understand. I did hold on to something with my young mind back then, and in my years of coaching, I realized that this is the primary thing that separates failure from success, having a worthy goal.
As I grew older, I began to notice what happened whenever I had a clear goal right in front of me. Life became easier. Yeah.
Achieving goals in my career and love life came with its challenges, but it was nothing compared to not having a goal. My attention naturally gathered around the end result as soon as I decided what that end result would be. I gradually became more interested in the people, the ideas and opportunities that could get me closer and closer to success.
And I became less interested in the things that blocked it from me and the things that had nothing to do with where I was going. Your attitude influences your behavior and your behavior eventually becomes evidence of who you believe yourself to be. Repeat the cycle long enough and you have what we call a self -fulfilling prophecy that has been rebranded as self -concept.
Regardless of what appears to be true in a 24 -7 news cycle, our 3D reality does not play favorites. The same opportunity can pass right in front of two people and produce two completely different results because each person meets that with a different attitude, a certain level of preparation and a certain expectation of themselves because your identity goes everywhere you go.
Your identity shapes how you think. The actions you take, the choices you make and what you expect to receive from the people around you. Long before you get the promotion at your job, for instance, or build your own business, get the relationship of your dreams or whatever goal you have in mind that you have your mindset on.
Everything that you need to receive it is already within you. But we live in a world that has spent a lot of time, a lot of resources, a lot of money conditioning you to not believe it. Let's just assume for a moment that you're turning your financial identity around and that's why you landed on this channel and the money may not be in your account yet and you may not have clear sight on the opportunity that's going to supply it either.
This is a good opportunity to study how you're responding to your current circumstances because your reaction to life's events creates more of those life events. Pay attention to the decisions that you make when an opportunity shows up or how quickly you recover when something goes wrong in your life and what you automatically expect to happen next.
Everything that you heard so far is true. I live it and I teach it. You paint your world with these expectations and the expectations that you carry into life come directly from the person you believe yourself to be.
Expect very little from yourself and you'll find 20 reasons, 25 reasons to stay exactly where you are in your career and in your relationships. Expect more from yourself and your subconscious mind flanked by a finely tuned identity. And it's going to start finding the people, the ideas and opportunities that match that expectation.
You can test this in your own life by looking at one area where you've been stuck in and asking yourself what you really expect from yourself in that specific lane. Look past what you want to happen and study what you actually prepare yourself for, because your habits will usually reveal your true expectation faster than your words ever will.
Here's what that looks like in real time. When I'm coaching the members of my community, this is the sweet spot that I hone in on because once you identify a habit, it's no longer a habit. is now a choice so when there's a relationship goal that a member has decided on but i can see in their word choice in the questions that they're asking where they might already be preparing for betrayal might be preparing for failure this is where the habit can turn into a choice once it's identified these habits can manifest in dozens of ways from consuming a steady diet of gender war content to taking their single friends love opinions as the gospel action has its place right then and there because soaking up all this self -concept work, all these self -concept techniques without applying a proper mental diet is not what makes an indestructible mind.
Building a bulletproof identity has very little to do with standing in front of a mirror every morning, repeating affirmations and everything to do with how you think, how you feel and how you act when you're under pressure and in the moments when other people are trying to make you afraid of your own goals. Every repeated cycle that you go through in life is teaching you something about yourself.
So understand it and you can start choosing which lesson you want to stop repeating over and over again in said life. So if you want to have a bulletproof mindset, you have to practice it every day. Picture your habits as dress rehearsals.
Your expectations give those habits the proper direction and your results eventually become the receipts for what you practice long enough. Change has to start somewhere. So let's start in your mind.
No different than everything you already learned here on this channel. I find it intriguing how these principles have always been available to those who went looking for them. But it wasn't always labeled as manifestation or the law of assumption or law of attraction.
Just simply character development. So if you want to put this to work in your life, there's a simple identity test that I've carried into my own business that you can use for yourself. And it's a variation of what Nightingale taught about the foundation of a successful mind.
Treat every single person that you meet as though they are the most important person on earth. Just go ahead and practice that for a while, just for a little while. And you can begin to see and mold a different assumption about people.
After all, everyone wants to feel important in some way. Now, don't we? Every manifestation comes to another person.
We like to feel respected on that path, though. We like to feel appreciated. We like to feel recognized as someone who matters to the world and people naturally develop respect.
trust and loyalty towards the people who can make them feel that way. And that makes the manifestation process even easier. There it is again, though.
Your world is a reflection of your attitude. So now you're going to do something about it, right? Because you already have plenty of opportunities to practice this.
Start with your family, your friends, and the people that you work with. Take that energy to your clients and your customers next. Start with what you have.
Always start with what you have. And you'll simultaneously be preparing yourself to receive it back multiplied. But here's the thing.
We all begin the morning somewhere neutral. From an emotional perspective, that is. Then a text message pops up.
Email comes through. Traffic is backed up when you get out there on the road. Rage bait on social media.
Somebody gives us good news or somebody says something that we don't really particularly care for. Within a few hours, many people. have allowed the events of the day to decide exactly how they feel about themselves, how they feel about their lives, and how they feel about the world that they're living in.
These are all examples of how the modern world hijacks a person's attitude and mindset before they even know it. And that's a core part of building a bulletproof mindset and identity by simply not running into a firefight. every single day with that 24 hour news cycle and with all the toxic timelines that you have available to you.
The same discipline applies to the opinions of other people, especially when the results of your goals haven't became visible yet. Sometimes you share a goal because you're looking for validation and the responses that you get back from the people that you care about, the responses you receive simply reflect back the doubt that made you seek out the validation in the first place or your ambition.
can remind someone of the bets that they haven't quite placed on themselves yet. So they respond to your goals through the limitations of their own belief system. This is where silence becomes one of the strongest tools of a bulletproof mind.
Silence is trust, trust in you, your abilities, trust in yourself. It's knowing that you're. building something special, that you're building something powerful and sharing that vision only with the people who actually need to participate in bringing in their life as required.
Your goals don't need to be broadcasted to everybody. Your goal doesn't need to survive a public opinion while it's still taking form. Now pay attention to this throughout your ordinary day.
Notice what it feels like when you're getting some type of credit. Notice what it feels like when you get into accolades that you deserve for something that you worked hard on or even a compliment. Notice what it does to you.
Then pay a little bit more attention to criticism, to rejection, to something negative when it shows up. Notice what happens with your attitude when your plans go perfect and notice what happens when they get canceled. Your reactions will show you how much authority you've given your surroundings over your state of mind.
Now, that reminds me of two more words that my father drilled into my mind with those white cassette tapes growing up back in the 90s. That's gratitude and expectancy. Gratitude keeps you aware of what life has already placed in your hands.
Expectancy keeps you aware that there is more ahead for you and that you're preparing for it. I've always loved the definition that luck is what happens when preparedness meets opportunity. We like to label that as manifestation these days, but opportunity is present all around us 24 -7.
Although it frequently arrives disguised as responsibility and the path to receive it is littered with experiences that we fear the most. But your preparation determines what you can do with it when it arrives. So prepare yourself by practicing the qualities of the person you intend to be.
And here's how you do it. If generosity is an attitude of yours and at the end of your wealth path, that's what you see yourself as. And that's what you'll be practicing once you hit that higher tax bracket.
Leave a larger tip whenever you can and become comfortable putting money into circulation out there. Whenever you're eating, whenever you're buying goods, tip and tip good. Your physical behavior is matching the outcome that you pointed your mind to.
If charity is a part of your wealth identity, give some of your money, your time, your attention to those who need it. If leadership is where you're headed, where you see yourself going, begin taking responsibility when leadership is required in your family or your personal life. Give your new identity something real to do.
I see this often with the fresh minds that enter into my school community for the first time. People can arrive describing their job that they hate. They describe the income tax bracket that they're tired of being stuck in and every single condition or person they want removed from their lives yet.
Whenever I ask them to describe the life that they actually want to live, it triggers a moment of silence. A worthy goal solves this problem by giving your mind a fixed direction instead of a list of complaints. It is much harder for the human mind to not do something than it is to simply perform a step towards a clearly defined goal.
The secret behind goal setting that flies under the average person's radar is this. Until you accomplish it, much of it is invisible to everyone except you. With your money, other people cannot see the six or seven figure business while it's still an idea in your head.
In love, nobody will be able to see the high level of integrity that attracts and keeps on attracting loving relationships. Even in the world of content creation, nobody can see you with an audience of hundreds of thousands of people watching you every single week who love you and love what you have to offer when you're only sitting on 25 views.
I promise you they cannot see it. But you can. Now, I want you to choose one goal that you want to accomplish within the next 30 days.
If you never formally set a written goal before, choose something that you already have the ball rolling on. And the finish line is slightly beyond where you are today. Make it clear enough, crystal clear enough that 30 days from now, you will know whether you achieved it or came up short.
Now, before you go to bed at night, take out a piece of paper. take out your journal take out something special that you write on and write the date exactly 30 days from today if today is september 1st for instance write october 1st at the top of the page then right from that date as the person who already accomplished that goal.
I've trained members in my community to see their chosen reality clearly, which creates the pathway for it to arrive in their lives. Just recently, they've accomplished promotions in their career, purchasing dream homes and dream cars. This is the power of the imagination at work when it has a clearly defined goal and an identity that's built to win.
Now keep this accomplishment of yours, keep it short. and spend more of your attention on describing exactly how it feels to have it. Remember, manifestation is not just about what you think, it's about what you feel.
Feeling is the secret. And I want you to vividly describe the relief, the satisfaction, the pride, the triumph, or just a sense of normalcy that comes with the result being a part of your regular life. Be hyper -specific about the feeling of having it and giving absolutely zero attention towards how it's going to happen.
You cannot possibly know every single person that you'll meet, every single idea that you'll have or every opportunity that may become a part of this next 30 days of yours. Your thinking mind should stay centered on the destination while your subconscious works with the infinite amount of information, experiences, synchronicities, possibilities that you encounter along the way.
Then wake up tomorrow and practice being that person that has already experienced that success. If your goal requires discipline, be disciplined. If it requires consistency, be consistent.
If it requires leadership, lead everywhere you go, everywhere you have the opportunity. And there's always an opportunity around you. If it requires confidence, begin trusting yourself because that's all confidence is.
Unwavering trust in the face that you see every morning in the mirror. Then carry a little bit of gratitude for what is already present in your life. and a little bit more positivity, a little bit more positive expectancy towards where you're going to be a month from now.
Do this for 30 days and your attitude becomes a rehearsal for the identity attached to that goal. Assume what you wrote is a living receipt, then 30 days from when you wrote it, read it again, then come back here and go crazy through my comment section and let us all know what you created. Now remember, before you go off to the next video, before you can do something, you must be something.
Your self -concept becomes bulletproof when you know where you're going and expect yourself to get there through hell and high water or sunshine and rainbows. Because that is the attitude of success. That's a magnet for success.
If this episode hit home for you, type that made sense to me down the comments and let me know that it served you well. You probably noticed by now that the here nor there title for this channel has been retired. Yeah, it's officially gone.

Before you can do something, you must first be something, Hines opens, reprising the Earl Nightingale line his father played on cassette tape during their morning commute three decades ago. What follows is his case for why the self-concept you carry decides what you notice, expect, and eventually receive, plus the 30-day exercise he uses to rebuild it.
