Big Idea

The argument in one line.

Cold SMS outperforms cold calling for local business outreach because prospects respond on their own schedule, turning an unsolicited message into something that feels like an inbound inquiry.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • You run a local-services agency (Google review automation, reputation management, or similar) and want a low-cost pipeline method that does not rely on paid ads.
  • You already use GoHighLevel and want a pre-built automation you can plug a validated contact list into.
  • You are comfortable operating in the legal grey area of unsolicited SMS and want a system with a documented 20-30 client track record.
  • You want to spend ~$30 to validate 5,000 phone numbers rather than hundreds on ad spend to test a new outreach channel.
SKIP IF…
  • You sell B2B SaaS, e-commerce, or national-brand products -- this system is built around hyper-local Google Maps targeting.
  • You need a fully TCPA-compliant outreach strategy -- the creator explicitly flags this as a legal grey area.
  • You have never used GoHighLevel and are not ready to learn its workflow builder.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

The cold SMS system has four sequential steps: use Instant Data Scraper (free Chrome extension) to pull local business listings from Google Maps, run the exported CSV through ClearOut Phone (~$30/5,000 numbers) to filter for mobile-only contacts, import the cleaned list into GoHighLevel, and activate a pre-built cold SMS automation that sends ~150 messages per day between 9am and 7pm. A single SMS script, used unchanged for over a year, triggers an instant phone alert to the creator when a prospect replies positively so he can call immediately. The system has produced 20-30 clients and the creator attributes its effectiveness to making the recipient feel like they are responding at their own pace rather than being interrupted.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • A single unchanged SMS script sent for over a year has generated 20-30 paying clients -- message testing matters far less than consistent volume.
  • ClearOut Phone costs ~$30 per 5,000 numbers validated: the entire cost of a lead-gen run that could return one client worth hundreds per month.
  • Filtering Google Maps results for 'book online' listings is a fast proxy for businesses already using a CRM and therefore open to SaaS tools.
  • 150 texts per day, run only between 9am and 7pm, is the ceiling the creator uses to avoid triggering spam filters.
  • Cold SMS recipients routinely say 'thank you for not cold calling me' -- the channel converts partly because it is less intrusive than a ringing phone.
  • Keeping cold SMS in a separate GoHighLevel subaccount isolates any deliverability damage from the main agency account.
  • An instant phone notification on positive reply is the bridge from automation to close -- speed-to-call after a warm reply is the human step that seals the deal.
  • The entire lead list cost (scraping is free, validation is ~$30) means a single closed client covers the cost of dozens of full campaigns.
Takeaway

Four tools, one script, 20-30 clients.

WHAT TO LEARN

Cold SMS produces warm-feeling replies because the prospect responds on their own terms -- and the entire list-to-automation pipeline costs about $30 to run.

  • Filtering a Google Maps list for 'book online' listings is a fast signal that a business already has a CRM and is a better-fit SaaS prospect.
  • Phone number validation (filtering to mobile-only) is the step most people skip -- sending to landlines wastes budget and damages deliverability.
  • 150 texts per day capped to business hours is a sustainable sending volume; higher velocity risks spam filtering, lower velocity starves the pipeline.
  • A GoHighLevel subaccount dedicated to cold SMS isolates any deliverability risk from the main agency account.
  • Instant-reply notifications are the bridge from automation to close -- the window after a positive reply is narrow and needs a human hand-off immediately.
  • Keeping the same SMS script for 12+ months without changes shows that message iteration matters far less than operational consistency at this stage.
Glossary

Terms worth knowing.

Instant Data Scraper
A free Chrome extension that automatically detects and extracts tabular data from web pages, used here to scrape business listings from Google Maps into a downloadable CSV.
ClearOut Phone
A paid phone validation service (~$30 per 5,000 numbers) that classifies phone numbers by line type (mobile, landline, VoIP) so outreach lists can be filtered to mobile-only contacts before sending SMS.
GoHighLevel (GHL)
An all-in-one CRM and marketing automation platform popular with agencies, used here to store contacts and run multi-step SMS outreach sequences.
Cold SMS
Sending unsolicited text messages to prospects who have not opted in to receive them. Operates in a legal grey area in the US and is distinct from compliant SMS marketing that requires prior consent.
Subaccount
A separate client account inside GoHighLevel; the creator recommends running cold SMS from a dedicated subaccount to quarantine any deliverability or compliance risk from the main agency account.

00:01Alright, guys. Here's how I make about 21 k per month, um, and how I use hold SMS to to get clients for my SaaS agency. Um, so a couple different things.
00:11Obviously, I'm just gonna refresh the Stripe here just to kinda show you that this is real. This is, like, actually something that I do. I don't just, like, you know, post 10 k per month videos over and over again and and not show anything.
00:23Like, I'm actually building the business, um, just because you know, just wanna show you that I'm doing it. Right? So so that's number one.
00:30Um, and then this is how I do it. Right? So there's a couple different steps to this.
00:34Uh, obviously, you know, don't continue in this video if you're not okay with kind of, like, the the legal gray area that cool SMS can be. Obviously, again, not legal advice with any of this stuff.
00:45You're gonna do whatever you're gonna do. Um, but this is just how I do it, right, for my business. Okay?
00:50So, um, first things first, we need to get a we need to get a tool to be able to scrape the leads from. Right? Because, obviously, in order to send SMS, we need to have a list to send it to.
01:03Right? So the first thing that you're gonna do is you're gonna go to the Chrome Web Store, and you're gonna download Instant Data Scraper to your Google Chrome. Right?
01:10So we're gonna download Instant Data Scraper to to your Google Chrome. And then once that is on Chrome, it should be popping up here in the top right. Okay?
01:19The next thing that you're gonna do is you're gonna open up Google Maps. Alright? So this is where you wanna just think about, like, who are you trying to serve.
01:27Right? Like, who's who's who's what what kind of business do you wanna work with?
01:32What kind of business do you want to actually serve? And so that's that's who you need to be searching up in Google Maps. Right?
01:37So, like, let let's just say, like, I look up plumbers in, um, Tampa.
01:44Right? Plumbers in Tampa. Right?
01:47We have an entire list of people that are plumbers that could all be potential clients. Also, random side note, if it says book online, they're probably gonna be a good fit because they they have some sort of CRM they're using.
02:01So just, like, little tip there from somebody that's dealt with a bunch of really bad fit clients. Okay. So now that you have your list of people that that you, you know, could potentially reach out to, we need to scrape the list.
02:13Right? So what you're gonna do is you're gonna hit your your newfound tool here, your Chrome Instant Data Scraper. Go ahead and and click that, and then it'll open up for you.
02:23Now you can kinda see how this, uh, this it's it's all kinda yellow, and it has automatically scraped these for you into a big list.
02:32This is, like, an absolutely genius tool, guys. Like, I'm I can't believe I didn't even find it sooner. And all you do is let's see.
02:40Locate next button. Um, you are going to let's see.
02:46So sometimes you have to hit try another table a few times until until it actually scrapes the entire list. Right? You are literally going to scroll down this entire list, and you can see everything that is yellow has been scraped.
02:58Right? So for the purposes of this video, I'm not gonna keep going. But what you do is all you do is you get to the very bottom of the list, and you just select locate next button, and you can select it, right, like down here.
03:11And then you can just hit start crawling, and it will continue to crawl all of these businesses for you. And you can go as far as you want with this.
03:18Right? Like, you can get a you can get a list of 10,000 businesses if you want, and, um, you're gonna get a client from it.
03:25Right? You're going to get a client from from something like that. So once you have your list here, we're gonna download this as a CSV, drag it to your desktop, and then we need to filter it out.
03:37Right? Because you don't wanna send these messages to to landline phone numbers, to to honey hole lawyer phone numbers.
03:45Like, you want these numbers to be going to the business owner. So we need to to filter it out, validate it on, um, Clear Out Phone. That's what I use at least.
03:53It's an awesome tool. You're gonna make an account if you don't have one. I think it's, like, $30 to to validate 5,000 phone numbers, which, believe me, you're gonna make back with cold SMS.
04:06So either log in or you're going to create an account. Once you create an account, you are just gonna drop your your list that you just scraped into that tool, and you're gonna hit validate. And then once you validate it, you can download the new list, and it will pop up in a similar CSV type just like this.
04:28And what you can do is you can filter out for just the numbers that you want. So there will be a column in here for line type and it will say mobile or landline or whatever other line type it is.
04:41You're gonna wanna filter that list for only mobile numbers. Okay? And once you do that, go ahead and redownload the list.
04:48Okay? Once you redown the list, go to to your GoHighLevel account, and you can you can actually upload the list now into your contact section.
05:01Obviously, you know, this is a demo account here. You're gonna click import kinda like you always do.
05:08And then contacts, you can hit next. Go ahead and import your list. And then once you have a couple contacts in HighLevel, then we can kinda move on to onto the next section here.
05:19Go ahead and import your list. And then from there, I'm gonna kinda show you how you can actually start sending these messages out and getting people to getting people to come through.
05:31Okay?
05:34So let's see. The best part about doing this all in one take is I have literally no idea where my tabs are.
05:46Perfect. Alright. We're gonna go back to just the contact section.
05:50Let's just say I have a demo contact in here. This contact obviously, you know how to add a contact to a work phone at a high level. You're gonna add them to this cold SMS automation.
06:02Obviously, you know, if you sign up to go high level by link or upgrade, you'll you'll just automatically get it copied and pasted into your account. Um, but it is a cold SMS outreach automation here specifically designed for cold SMS.
06:18I recommend putting this in a separate subaccount just to make sure you don't screw up your main agency account, um, with sending any, you know, cold SMS stuff there. Again, this is kinda where it'll look like, you know, only run between nine and seven.
06:32I send about a 150 per day. And then there are a couple different steps in here where you send the initial message, wait if they, you know, if they reply positively, it immediately sends you a message on your phone to call them.
06:43If it doesn't, you don't wanna message them again. Right?
06:46But in terms of the actual text, I have been using literally one cold SMS script for the last year for every single contact I've sent it to you.
06:55I'm telling you, I have not changed it one time. I found something that worked for me, and I've been kinda rolling with that. Um, and it's specifically for Google review automation sales.
07:07So if you're, like, selling something else, you want access to the script, don't worry about it because it specifically has to do with Google reviews. If you do want access to it, obviously, I'll put the the school community link in the description.
07:18The school community is totally free. If you wanna see kind of scripts and sales calls and how I actually sell this stuff, you can sign up to to HighLevelOne merchant with the links in the description, and you'll automatically get an invite to the private community that has all that sort of good stuff in there.
07:32Um, but, yeah, guys, hopefully, that, you know, added some sort of value on the cold SMS side. Kinda just like recapping. Make sure you get the Chrome Instant Data Scraper extension, get ClearOutPhone.
07:44And then once you do that, you can upload the upload them to HighLevel, build your own cold SMS automation, or just use mine gaining access kinda like how I showed you.
07:54And that has probably gotten me, I would say, 20 or 30 clients for sure. Just cold SMS, it's it's an incredible method. If you do it correctly, you wanna make sure that you don't spam the hell out of people.
08:05Like, you know, just just kinda go low and slow with this especially. Um, but I I'm telling you, have guys all the time telling me, thank you so much for not cold calling me.
08:14Like, this is great. I just get to respond to this. So in my opinion, it's basically like them filling out a lead form on an ad.
08:22So it it works really well. Try it out. Just rambling now.
08:26But, uh, yeah, let me know if you have any questions in the comments.
