Big Idea

The argument in one line.

YouTube growth gets easy when every video reuses proven outlier phrases, speaks to the audience's dream outcome instead of your expertise, and uses packaging bold enough to start an argument.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • A coach, consultant or expert posting YouTube videos that stall around a thousand views and you can't tell why the packaging isn't landing.
  • A creator who sits down to brainstorm titles from scratch and wants a repeatable research method instead of guessing.
  • Someone whose videos teach real information but whose thumbnails and titles describe the method instead of the result the viewer wants.
SKIP IF…
  • You want editing, scripting or retention advice, because this video covers only titles, thumbnails and idea framing.
  • You already run a tested outlier-research workflow and know your niche's key phrases.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

YouTube gets easier when you stop inventing packaging from scratch and apply three rules to every video. Rule one is to find the key: research outlier videos in your niche and reuse the phrases, title structures and visuals that already work, as one client did by swapping 'better muscle' for 'athletic physique'. Rule two is to unlock the desire: use the pillow rule and the why ladder to package the audience's dream outcome instead of your information. Rule three is to make an entrance: pass the party test with bold contrast, bigger text and a cleaner thumbnail. The client's video went from about 1,000 to 28,000 views.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • Trying to invent a great YouTube idea from a blank page is a lottery, while researching outliers means copying the key that already opens the door.
  • A key can be a phrase, a title structure, a color or a visual, and combining several that have worked before makes growth repeatable.
  • 'Better muscle' was too vague to click, while 'athletic physique' matched what the niche already searched for, and the retitled video became that channel's top performer.
  • Do not copy outliers. Take the ingredients and make them your own.
  • Nobody goes to bed hoping someone will teach them progressive overload tomorrow. They go to bed wishing they looked like Brad Pitt in Fight Club.
  • Package the transformation, not the information, because the expert's excitement about a technique is not what the audience is thinking about.
  • The why ladder moves from your technique up to the ultimate dream, and the best packaging sits a few rungs below the vague top, where people still know what you mean.
  • Aim for the rung people can picture. 'Fluency' beat 'fulfill your life's purpose' for a language-learning video.
  • If a sentence wouldn't turn heads when said to a room at a party, it won't turn heads as a thumbnail either.
  • Being perfectly reasonable, logical and fair is the enemy of good packaging, because it gives nobody a reason to react.
  • A thumbnail that never says what the video is about, with no fitness cue on a fitness channel, can sit at 100 views.
  • Bigger, bolder text and a less cluttered thumbnail make the same idea read as a stronger claim.
  • Connect your idea to the dream outcome it serves. 'Motivation to train' sits low on the ladder, while 'cannot stop building muscle' sits near what people want.
Takeaway

Package the dream, not the technique

WHAT TO LEARN

Views come from packaging that reuses proven phrases, names the result the audience wants, and says it boldly enough to provoke a reaction.

  • Search outlier videos in your niche or adjacent ones and reuse the phrases and title structures that already work instead of inventing from a blank page.
  • Swap vague personal wording for the term the niche already uses. 'Better muscle' became 'athletic physique' and the video became the channel's best.
  • Copy ingredients, not videos. Make the key phrase, structure or visual your own so it still reads as yours.
  • Before any video, picture your audience at bedtime and package what they wish for, not the technique you're excited to teach.
  • Climb the why ladder from your technique toward the dream, then stop on the rung where a stranger still knows exactly what you mean.
  • Show the transformation in the thumbnail. A language video about natural fluency reached 110,000 views while a vocab-technique version did not.
  • Run the party test: if saying the title out loud wouldn't turn heads, make the claim sharper and more contrasting.
  • Make sure a thumbnail signals the topic at a glance, then cut clutter and enlarge the text so the claim reads in one look.
Glossary

Terms worth knowing.

Outlier video
A video that gets far more views than the channel normally does. Studying outliers in your niche shows which phrases and ideas the audience already responds to.
Audience key
A phrase, title structure, color or visual that has already unlocked views for videos in your niche and can be reused in your own packaging.
Pillow rule
A check before making a video: picture what your audience thinks about when going to bed at night, and package your idea around that instead of what you want to teach.
Why ladder
A way to find the audience's real dream by asking 'why is that important?' repeatedly, climbing from your technique up toward the ultimate desire, then stopping where people still understand the claim.
Party test
A gut check that asks whether your title or thumbnail claim would make people at a party turn their heads and want to hear what you say next.
Packaging
The title and thumbnail together, the part of a video that decides whether someone clicks.
Curse of the expert
The habit of experts to market the information they know instead of the result the beginner wants.

YouTube becomes easy when you understand three key rules and apply them into every single video that you make. So in this video I'm going to unlock these three rules for you and show you how when I applied them to Ibrahim's video and made these tweaks at this exact moment it went from stagnating at around a thousand views to rising to around 16 ,000 views and now it's on around 28 ,000 right now.
Now, the first problem that prevents YouTube from being easy to most coaches is that they approach it like a lottery. They sit down, stare at a blank page and try to come up with a great idea and then just hope to the YouTube gods, maybe sacrifice a small lamb and just pray that they will get results. And to illustrate this, you've got to imagine that each YouTube banger that's actually going to grow your channel and your business is like a locked door.
And what you're trying to do right now is you see next to the door, there is a hammer and... Some raw materials maybe some sort of mold and metal and you're trying to literally Create a key like a blacksmith would have done a thousand years ago to try and fit in this door And this is going to take you 10 100 maybe a thousand attempts or maybe you'll never get there But what you haven't done yet in the right way is look to the other side of the door and realize that there's a bloke Called dave who's going through that door every day making banger videos in your niche or in an adjacent niche And you could just look at the key that he keeps using, that he leaves on the table next to the door, that you could just use every time.
And that's exactly what researching outliers actually is. It's looking for the words, phrases, and ideas that have already worked in your niche or adjacent niches. and then applying them to your videos.
These are things that have already unlocked the YouTube door, and you just need to use the same keys. To illustrate this, let's look at this little conversation thread that I had with Ibrahim when he posted this video. So he posted this video, I replaced machines with rings and built better muscle.
Now, I don't give people feedback on every video. We have a more private cohort reserved for that one -to -one feedback, but I just couldn't help but comment on this because I knew there was some gold that he was really missing out on. I said, I think better muscle, is too vague right and i only understood the concept by watching the video and i realized that ibrahim was talking about having functional muscle muscle that feels good and works for you in your day -to -day life and doesn't just look the part right so instead this is existing in ibrahim's mind kind of like a lottery ticket like oh i'm thinking about better muscle my muscle now feels better so i'm going to put that in a title but actually what's doing well in your niche right now is the word athletic physique, and it describes exactly what you're trying to talk about.
I then posted these outlier videos that are done well using this exact phrase in the comments, just to show what I'm talking about. The only seven exercises you need to build an athletic physique. The athletic look.
How to build an athletic physique. It's boring, but it builds an athletic physique. How to build an athletic physique.
These are all people who have already used this key to unlock YouTube growth on their channel. And with this suggestion, Ibrahim being the action taker that he is, posted this just a couple of days afterwards.
This has become my highest performing video and we literally made those tweaks right here. And you'll notice what I also commented on his post. Very importantly, as I said, I think athletic physique could become a key phrase that you use in a lot of your packaging and core ideas.
What this means is that now Ibrahim has found a key. He's found a key that unlocks growth and audience desire on his channel. Now as a caveat here, Do not copy.
This is where the audience keys concept comes into its own. You're looking for ingredients that you can make your own. Audience keys that unlock your YouTube growth can come in the form of key phrases, title structures, even colors and visuals, just to name a few.
And once you start using these again and again, you'll realize that there are certain combinations, and you can almost see this as a combination lock. You know that using this key phrase and... this specific visual, these colors, and this certain title structure unlocks growth again and again.
This really does make YouTube stupid easy, and it's one of the keys behind my own channel growth, as well as a bunch of my clients. So, rule number one, find the key. And of course, sometimes this takes time.
You find your own keys over time by experimenting, but if you want to skip the queue, look for the keys that people are already using. By the way, if you want my free upload maxing playbook, the link to that is in the description below. It will walk you through a variety of video formats that actually grow your channel and your business and give you proven title structures for each.
Now, there's a huge second problem that if you don't solve this, YouTube is still going to be on hard mode. And this problem is actually your ideas. Your ideas are probably slightly too compelling for their own good.
When you get this wrong, it will stagnate your YouTube growth. And it is the number one reason specifically why experts struggle to grow on YouTube. So you have your ideas.
of what you want to teach. And you have a lot of compelling ideas and exciting stuff that you want to teach. But before you make any videos or teach anything, you have to be aware of the pillow rule.
Before making any video, you've got to imagine your audience going to bed at night and you've got to think about what are they thinking about? It's very unlikely that in the fitness niche, somebody who's a bit out of shape is thinking, I hope somebody teaches me the five principles of progressive overload tomorrow. Instead, Or I wish I looked like Brad Pitt in Fight Club.
The transition from this information to transformation is encapsulated by focusing relentlessly on your audience's pains and dreams. This is marketing 101, but applied to YouTube. And in Ibrahim's video, he was likely going to bed at night as the expert, thinking, hey, since I've been working out with rings, my muscle feels better.
It feels like I have better muscle. Cool, that's a great YouTube idea. I'm going to make a video about that.
It's totally understandable. But what his audience turns out what they're thinking and actually clicking on is, I want to build that athletic physique, right? I want to build a physique that doesn't look like a bodybuilder, but it doesn't look like I'm skinny or out of shape.
I want to look athletic. And that's what they're thinking about. So in our packaging, we have to go from showcasing information, like my client Louise did here before she joined through our YouTube system, showcasing how to learn vocab and never forget it in five minutes, and instead go from showcasing transformation which is what she did in this video that she posted two weeks ago that is now on 110 000 views this will change the way that you learn languages forever fluency comes naturally natural fluency is something that her audience wants it's something that they dream about and so by showcasing that in the thumbnail she is solving the problem of the curse of the expert and speaking directly to her audience's dreams and their subconscious now i want to drench this video in source so the easiest way that you actually find where your audience's dreams are is by looking at the why ladder.
Now you climb the why ladder by asking why. And so down here is all of your expertise. And up here is the ultimate why.
It's the ultimate dream. So for example, in language learning, down here is a specific vocab technique. And then you ask, well, why is that important?
Well, it helps you memorize better. Okay, but why is that important? That's important because it allows you to learn faster.
Okay, cool. Why is learning languages faster important? Well, it means you'll be able to reach fluency faster.
Okay, and why is reaching fluency important? It'll give me confidence when I speak. And why is speaking confidence important?
Well, it's actually because I want to feel intelligent. And then the question is, well, why do you want to feel intelligent? And then it's like, well, I want to sort of fulfill my life's purpose, or I just want to feel good, feel happy, or whatever, right?
And so we want to move up the ladder most of the time. But at some point, people aren't actually going to know what you're talking about. So if in your thumbnail you say, fulfill your purpose with languages and feel happy, it's going to be too vague.
Even though it is the core root desire, it's too much. So we have to move down until people actually know what you're talking about. So feeling intelligent, too much.
Speaking confidence, maybe. Reaching fluency, that's probably the golden zone here, that we want to move out of packaging our... ideas as vocab teaching, even memorizing better.
Learn faster could also be a great rung to go down and we could sort of flirt between these two rungs here and we're probably going to find that that is the sweet spot that actually grows our channel. By doing this you are using that key and you are unlocking desire in your audience that allows you to make packaging ideas that they cannot help but click on.
However there's another huge problem that kills views and sales lurking in the darkness. Which is that YouTube is a party, right? And if you're at a party and you walk into a room and you say to everyone, hey guys, I have a few reasons why working out outside is actually slightly preferable to working out indoors in gyms.
Although being in gyms and working out is still totally valid. Now, if you say that, unfortunately, no one really gives a shit. But if you open the door in scenario two and say, gyms are a trap.
You're gonna turn a lot of heads and some people are gonna say hey, bro. Wait, what are you talking about? Jim is my life and other people are gonna say Finally somebody said it.
Yes. Jim's are a trap. I hate Jim's but either way Everybody wants to know what this person is going to say next and if you can make your packaging do that That's when everything starts working.
So the enemy here is actually just being perfectly reasonable Being perfectly logical, perfectly reasonable, perfectly fair, it's not really going to get you very far in your YouTube packaging. Instead, we want to do two things.
We want to build a big contrast in all of our packaging and make it big and bold. What do I actually mean by that? Well, let's demonstrate with another example from Ibrahim.
This is really interesting. So I screenshotted this when this video was back on 16 ,000 views. And this video, he had just posted.
Now you can see that he's been gaining some momentum with us. Got almost a thousand views. This one's now on 28 ,000.
This one's another thousand. He's gaining some consistency. This is great.
He posted this and it got 100 views. Now, just looking at this, we can already see why. The problem with this thumbnail and the reason that people on his channel aren't clicking it, it's because we don't actually know it's about fitness.
Nothing in here says that this is about fitness. And so it's way too broad. So key things to do would be either to put a photo of him looking jacked.
To have like a fitness related image or to have fitness related language in the thumbnail and maybe we could simply add here The most unrated way to stay motivated in fitness, right? That would be a slightly better Thumbnail and title and it's actually similar to what Ibrahim actually did. So he changed the video It since has climbed to 500 views so slightly better And it's how I replace motivation to train with one simple rule.
And then he's obviously got a fitness related photo. Now this is a bit better, but you've got to imagine if Ibrahim walked into a party and said that, hey guys, here's how I replace my motivation to train with one simple rule. It still isn't going to actually turn very many heads.
So how can we make this piece of packaging pass the party test rule? Well, the first thing is looking at motivation to train as a phrase and being like, cool, where is that on the Y ladder? So on the Y ladder, motivation to train, it's pretty low down.
It's like, well, why do you want motivation to train? So I can work out more. Why do you want to work out more?
So I can get more jacked. And so we need to connect this idea that he has, this one simple rule. We need to connect this with the actual dream outcome here.
And once we've got that, using our rule number two, which is to unlock the desire, we're then going to implement rule number three, which is to make this bigger and bolder and really pass the party rule. And how we do this is with a little bit of packaging I prepared earlier. which is how to train so consistently you cannot stop building muscle.
The 60 minute rule. So I've just done a couple of things. The thumbnail is just a lot less cluttered here.
And we're talking about one simple rule that makes us feel a bit bigger and bolder. Literally, the text is also bigger and bolder visually. And we're linking training so consistently to not being able to stop building muscle.
This is way bigger and bolder. And if we said this in a party, hey, does anyone want to know how to train so consistently you literally cannot stop building muscle? you're going to turn a few heads, right?
This is now past the party test rule. And as a bonus, we're using an audience key with a title format that is proven. How to something, so something, so you can get big result.
By doing this, we are applying the final rule, which is to make an entrance. So YouTube is actually very simple. You just need to find a key.
unlock the desire and make an entrance. But this is only looking at the packaging. If you want to understand my full system to make better videos faster, just like Chloe's result, where she made a 33 times outlier in just 55 minutes, you won't allow to do that.
Watch this video next. I'm going to run you through my entire YouTube system to make banger videos in three hours that grow your business.
