Big Idea
The argument in one line.
Anthropic's 44-skill small business plugin reveals a repeatable system-design pattern: split orchestration skills from utility skills, delete overlapping tools instead of stacking them, and automate the prep work for a task while leaving the final decision to a human.
Who This Is For
Read if. Skip if.
READ IF YOU ARE…
You run or operate a small business and already use (or are evaluating) Claude's desktop app and plugins.
You're building your own Claude skills and want a mental model for when to make an orchestration skill versus a single-purpose utility skill.
You want a concrete example of auditing a skill library for overlapping triggers before it causes wrong tool calls.
SKIP IF…
You don't use Claude's desktop app or plugin system at all.
You're looking for a technical skills-authoring tutorial rather than a tour of what Anthropic shipped.
TL;DR
The full version, fast.
Anthropic grew its Claude for Small Business plugin from 31 to 44 skills, organized into six departments: enhancement, sales and leads, marketing, customers and proposals, finance, and operations. The core framework is the split between utility skills, which do one job start to finish, and orchestration skills, which route a request to the right utility skills and stitch the results together. Anthropic didn't just add skills, it deleted overlapping ones (CRM cleanup, Friday brief, quarterly review, pricing advice), consolidating around fewer, clearer reports. The through-line across every category, especially finance, is to automate the prep and research work but keep a human making the final call on anything with real cost of error.

02 · What Anthropic released
The Claude for Small Business plugin went from 31 to 44 skills, organized by department; install via desktop app settings.
01:00 – 01:54
03 · Utility vs. orchestration skills
Defines the core framework using a kitchen-renovation-contractor analogy: utility skills are the specialist crew members, the orchestration skill is the contractor.
01:54 – 04:02
04 · Category 1: Enhancement
Three new skills: build-connector (custom tool connections, used as a fallback in 42 of 44 skills), build-agent (actually builds skills despite the name), and brand-style (captures brand guidelines for every output).
04:02 – 07:46
05 · Category 2: Sales and Leads
This category doubled from 4 to 8 skills. Covers grow-pipeline (finds and ranks prospects, writes outreach) and speed-to-lead (fast response to inbound leads). Removed crm-cleanup and crm-maintenance. Makes the case that Anthropic shipping imperfect tools and iterating is itself a lesson.
06:21 – 07:46
06 · Sponsor: Clay
Clay integrates into Claude Code, sitting on top of 250+ data providers, running automated recurring workflows, and installing via a single copy-pasted prompt.
07:46 – 11:29
07 · Category 3: Marketing
Grew from 6 to 8 skills. Covers the customer-feedback skill moving from support into marketing, the routing-collision concept (content-strategy vs. social-content-engine), and the two standout skills: seo-ai-visibility and marketing-monday.
11:29 – 11:59
08 · Anti-slop agreement / giveaway
Standard channel break: subscribe ask and a CloudMax subscription giveaway shoutout.
11:59 – 12:33
09 · Category 4: Customers and Proposals
4 skills swapped for 4 new ones. Highlights proposal-builder and contract-review as the two worth trying.
12:33 – 13:12
10 · Category 5: Finance
Grew from 10 to 12 skills, but the real story is risk management: pricing-advice was removed outright. The takeaway is to automate the prep and leave the decision to the owner wherever the cost of error is high.
13:12 – 14:37
11 · Category 6: Operations, Hiring, and Briefings
Grew from 5 to 7 skills. Friday brief and quarterly review were both cut in favor of a single Monday brief. Inbox-manager is held up as a clean example of an orchestration skill routing each email to a specific handler skill.
14:37 – 15:55
12 · Patterns across all 44 skills
Three recurring patterns: utility vs. orchestration, consolidation over addition, and automating the prep rather than the decision. Closes with a pointer to a follow-up video on building and optimizing custom skills.
Atomic Insights
Lines worth screenshotting.
Anthropic's Claude for Small Business plugin grew from 31 to 44 skills, adding 13 and removing 5.
A utility skill does one concrete job start to finish; an orchestration skill doesn't do the work itself, it identifies which utility skill to call and stitches the outputs together.
Build-connector is wired as a fallback inside 42 of the 44 skills in the plugin, so any skill that needs a tool without a native connector routes through it.
A routing collision happens when two or more skills could plausibly handle the same phrasing, such as 'what should I post?' matching both the content-strategy and social-content-engine skills with neither pointing to the other.
Anthropic deleted the pricing-advice skill entirely with no replacement, an explicit line around how much financial judgment it will hand to AI.
About 30% of surveyed small business owners asked Anthropic for growth help, which is why Sales & Leads doubled from four skills to eight.
Anthropic replaced two underused briefing skills, Friday brief and quarterly review, with a single Monday brief, on the logic that one report people actually open beats several nobody checks.
The design pattern across finance, sales, and briefings is the same: automate the prep, drafting, and ranking, but leave the decision with a human.
The customer feedback skill was moved out of the support category into marketing, signaling Anthropic now treats reviews as a growth asset rather than a support ticket.
Takeaway
Split your AI tools into doers and routers, then delete the overlap.
WHAT TO LEARN
The useful distinction in any growing automation library isn't how many tools you have, it's whether each one does a single job cleanly or decides which job to hand off, and whether you're willing to cut the ones that overlap.
A utility tool should do one concrete job start to finish; a router/orchestrator tool should only decide which utility tool to call and combine the results, never do the underlying work itself.
When two tools or automations could plausibly handle the same request, that's a routing collision; audit for it before it silently misfires and wastes time or money.
Shipping an imperfect version and deleting what doesn't work is a legitimate strategy even at large scale, it's not a sign the first attempt failed.
In any workflow where a mistake costs real money, automate the research and prep but keep a human making the final decision rather than automating straight through to an action.
One report or summary you actually read beats several you let pile up unread; consolidate recurring outputs down to the single one people act on.
Fast response time on inbound interest (a lead, a question, a request) is itself a lever worth automating for, since most people lose opportunities simply by being slow to respond.
Glossary
Terms worth knowing.
Utility skill
A Claude skill that performs one specific job start to finish on its own, without needing to understand the broader task it's part of.
Orchestration skill
A Claude skill that doesn't do the underlying work itself. It figures out which utility skills to call, in what order, and combines their outputs into one result.
Routing collision
When a user's request could plausibly trigger two or more skills because their descriptions overlap, so Claude can't reliably tell which one to use.
Speed to lead
The practice of contacting an inbound lead as fast as possible after they show interest, so no inquiry goes unanswered.
Middle augmentation
Automating the research and prep steps in the middle of a workflow while leaving the final judgment call to a human, as opposed to automating the entire process end to end.

Anthropic just released 13 new skills designed specifically to help people work faster in their day -to -day. But the reality is, even though downloading new skills is simple, that alone doesn't give you speed. What really matters is how you use them.
So in this video, I'm gonna break down the 13 new skills Anthropic released, tell you which are the most important, and I'll share you clear takeaways you can apply to optimize your system. So part one, what did Anthropic release and how can you use it? So Anthropic has a small business plugin that previously had 31 skills, but they just added 13 new skills.
And each skill is organized by department. Sales gets its own skills, marketing, operations, etc. And to use this plugin, it's free and very simple.
You download the desktop app. If you don't have it, you open it, you go to your settings, you select plugins, you search small business, and then you click install. After that, you'll have all 44 skills, including the 13 new ones that they just released.
least. And before we get into what's actually new here, you need to understand something that changes how you should think about these skills. And that's the difference between orchestration skills and utility skills.
So part two, the two buckets of skills. A utility skill does one concrete thing start to finish entirely on its own, whereas an orchestration skill doesn't do the underlying work itself. Instead, it identifies which utility skill to call in which order and then stitches their outputs together.
So if it's not clear, here's an example that sticks with most people. Think about if you're hiring a contractor to redo your kitchen you don't necessarily tell them which crew member does what but you agree on what the final product should look like that is the exact distinction here a utility skill is the one crew member that's the electrician the plumber the carpenter they get one specific job and don't need the full picture to do it right and the orchestration skill is the contract you just say redo my kitchen they'll bring in the plumber before the counter gets in the tile guy before the cabinets get hung and the whole room comes together like magic okay so that lays the foundation, now we're going to cover six different categories that these skills can be bucketed into.
And category one is enhancement skills. These are specific skills you can use to customize your own system. On screen, you'll see a visual that I'll use throughout each category, and it shows what Anthropic had in the plugin previously, what they added, and then what they removed.
So for each category, you'll see something similar. I'm not gonna explain it as much, but you can always pause and look into it. Now for this category, let's go through each of the three additional skills that Anthropic released.
The first is build connector, and this is a custom skill that helps you establish connections to external tools. So if you're on this channel, we have discussed at length about the built -in connectors that Claude already has set up, and this skill is designed to help you create create custom ones.
And highlighting how important this is, Anthropic made this a fallback inside 42 of the skills in this plugin. So anytime one of them needs a tool that doesn't have a native connector built in, this is what helps them connect. And this is a perfect example of utility skill that's built into this plugin.
The next one is build agent. And this one blew my mind in terms of how they think about naming skills. So this build agent actually lets people create their own custom skills.
And yes, I didn't misspeak. Despite being named build agent, this actually builds skilled skills.
This is Anthropic's way of acknowledging that most people want to build AI agents, but under the hood, it just uses Claude's skills as the implementation mechanism. And this reminds me a lot of a famous sales quote, sell them what they want, give them what they need. They want an AI agent, but they really need skills.
And that's how powerful skills are. And the third one in this category is brand style. This skill captures your style guidelines without a ton of friction.
Then every asset and output the plugin produces follows this automatically. Together, these three skills mean your plugin can connect to nearly anything, build the exact tools you need, and then make everything it produces look like your business or whatever your brand is that you're working on in your day to day. And so if you want to try this today, here's what I would do.
I would first turn one of your repeated tasks into a skill using the build agent skill. And yes, I know the names are confusing, but it is what it is. Then connect whatever outside tools you're using using the build connector skill.
And if you're not sure where to start, here's a prompt you can use to find some inspiration for where to add a connection. So the enhancement skill. category really focused on quality of life for your ai system and this next one focused on quality of life for your users category 2 is sales and leads this category of the plugin doubled from four skills to eight on screen again you could see the breakdown of how the skills changed now in anthropic's own blog they said that approximately 30 percent of the surveyed owners asked for growth help so this new release has added focus on this specific category for the skills they added let's look at grow pipeline and speed to lead grow pipeline is designed to help you find leads it reads the market, finds and ranks real prospects, writes outreach in your voice, and then logs it all in your CRM.
And there are some limitations to this, and I'll touch on a tool in a bit that will enhance this entire process. But first, the next skill to cover is their speed to lead skill. The goal here is when you get an inbound lead, you contact them as quick as possible and make sure that nobody goes unanswered.
This is something I'm personally just not good at. I just don't follow up with leads because I'm just so damn busy. And this will help with that.
Your inbox, lead forms, support tickets, it'll all get covered as part of this. So those are two skills that they added, but they also removed two skills, CRM cleanup and CRM maintenance. And generally speaking for the rest of this video, I don't really care about what they deleted, but there is a meta point that I want to cover.
If a one to $2 trillion company can be like, yeah, we didn't ship the right stuff at first. And without flinching, they just delete things. That should be a wake up call to anyone watching this video.
Who's afraid to ship an idea because it isn't yet perfect. Anthropic, this massive company is just shipping things and learning. And it perfectly illustrates.
Ryan Armstrong's belief that action produces information. So just stop overthinking, just act. Now, as you start using these anthropic skills, this is clearly a vertical a lot of businesses need help with.
So here are three things that I would focus on. The first, again, don't overthink it. Make something, then make it good.
The second is prioritize this vertical. In your current role, how can you help with sales and growth? And this may seem impossible depending on your role, but the reality is it isn't.
Your job in some way or another can help with sales, whether that's customer success, customer retention, getting new leads, there are a ton of ways that you can help. So use this prompt, which will help you think deeper about your role and the growth impact it can have.
And the third thing is build what your customers ask for, not whatever happens to be easiest. This generally will always give you the most value for your time. Anthropic went from four to eight skills in this plugin because that was their way of listening to their customers.
Now I touched on this earlier in this section, but one limitation with these skills, for example, speed to lead, is that it only works if you already have leads coming in. So what tools can be used to help solve this problem well that brings us today's video sponsor clay so clay is a best -in -class tool when it comes to finding customers and leads for whatever you're building and now clay runs directly inside cloud code now there are three features that blew my mind away when i first started using this tool while i was scaling my business first is that clay sits on top of 250 plus data providers so let's say you wanted to reach out to local businesses right what you could do is you could have it pull google maps information to get a list it'll take that list and then find the owner of each business and then source the owners email.
And if one specific source doesn't have the info you're looking for, it'll try the next one instead of coming back without any results. And this process of finding the information, it kind of feels like magic and it solves AI's biggest issue, which is real world up -to -date data. And the second is you can create workflows that run automatically.
So that local business flow that I just discussed, you can have Clay rerun it every Monday to see if any new businesses popped up and you can be one of the first people that reaches out. And the third is you can just set it up in one prompt. So you copy and install command, you paste it in Claude code and then you hit enter and you're all set.
So if you click the first link in the description, you'll get a custom prompt for my community and then run it in Claude code. Clay is free to start and a new workspace comes with additional free credits. Once you do that, you're going to be happy you tried it because it'll enhance your Claude ecosystem to getting these leads.
Now this category we spoke about, this talked about sales and how you can use clay to enhance Claude. But this next category is the fuel that sales needs. Category three, marketing.
From personal experience, if you have the right marketing it truly can transform your business and this category specifically went from six to eight total skills you can see on screen the breakdown and i will cover the ones that i think are the most interesting but first i want to cover two specific topics the first is an important skill rearrange that i noticed and then a skill concept that it's important for you to understand called routing collisions so first let's cover the rearrange that i noticed within this actual plugin so the customer feedback skill moved out of the support category and into the marketing category and is treating reviews as a growth asset you can act on.
And this rearrangement shows you insight into how Anthropic thinks about this information and gives you insight into how important customer feedback is. It should not be taken lightly. And then the second point to cover is routing collisions.
This is what happens when two or more skills are technically capable of being called on the same request. Essentially saying, if you ask Claude to do something, it doesn't know for certain which skill to pick. And that's why it's a collision.
And looking at Anthropic skills, there's actually a collision between the content strategy and the social content engine. The content strategy will trigger if you say something like, what should I post?
And then the brand new skill, social content engine, triggers on what should we post this month? These are almost identical phrases, so there's an overlap and neither skill points to the other. And the reality is the intended split is probably one, the content strategy handles the bigger strategic calls based on your sales data, brand voice, etc.
While the social content engine handles the operational side of turning that into posts. But the problem is that if you were to just say, what should I post that could route to either one as it stands today.
And this collision exists elsewhere in this plugin between the growth pulse and the marketing Monday skills. Now I'm pointing this out because you should be auditing for this kind of thing in your own setup, because it will lead to issues where skills will automatically trigger when you didn't actually want them to trigger.
And that can lead to wasted tokens and time on screen. You'll see a prompt that will help you find and fix this overlap in your own skill. library now in terms of the skills that i think are the most important in this category it's seo ai visibility and then marketing monday so seo ai visibility covers something that's starting to matter more and more every day this is how your business shows up not when you google it but instead with ai answers i actually had someone comment on one of my youtube videos that when they asked gemini a question my video was one of the first answers that's an example of ai seo and it can bring traffic to whatever you're providing so to use this skill you would just share a public -facing url and what it says in terms of the ai seo visibility then the other skill is marketing monday and this breaks your day into buckets and focus areas giving you an action plan that you can follow marketing specifically is something that you have to keep doing for a steady supply of new customers and the repetitive nature of marketing makes it a prime category for skills because you have to repeatedly do these things and that repeated nature makes it easy to hone in on your skills but as you do make more and more skills keep the routing collision problem in mind because without a clear boundary between skills
And when you ask Claude, it also won't know when to use things. Now, if you want my help and figure out how exactly you can use AI in your marketing, there is a link below with how we can work together. So if marketing is about building trust, the next section is about converting those trust to dollars.
But before we get to that, you know the drill. This is our anti -slop agreement. Everything here is built by humans for humans.
So as part of this agreement, subscribe so this content can keep reaching more people. And if you already subscribe, turn on post notifications. That really helps as this channel grows.
And as a thank you for all the support from everyone watching, you guys are legends. I give away a CloudMax subscription every video. And this video's winner is Alex Gruber1762, who's building a desktop infrastructure app.
And to enter this video's CloudMax giveaway, let me know what you're building in the comments. And let's chat about the problems that you're running into. I would love to help.
Category four is customers. and proposals. This category, they took four skills out and they brought in four new skills.
On screen, you'll see the skills that they removed and the skills they added, and they are self -explanatory. So I will go through this quickly, but there are two that I want to call out. The first is proposal builder, which will create proposals.
This is a process that I only recently systematized. For me, I use claw designs, but this skill will get your brain going in terms of how you can speed up the proposal process. And the second skill is the contract review.
Again, like proposal design, this is exactly what it suggests. it reviews contracts. Just upload and see what happens.
Bringing us to category five, finance. So this went from 10 to 12 skills, but this category is more about risk management, not really the new skills. So generally what happened here is that the finance category got more depth, but also more guardrails.
For example, they removed pricing advice skill entirely with no replacement. This is Anthropic's way of intentionally drawing a line around how much financial judgment they're willing to hand over to AI. And then in turn, they're covering So instead, what they're doing is they're automating the prep and then they leave the decision with the owner or the person who's actually using their products.
And the general takeaway here is, yes, you can go and use the skills they provided to help you with finance. But a larger point is how you design your AI system for high cost of error categories, where if you fuck something up, you're going to have a bad time. You want to focus on middle to middle augmentation, not end to end automation.
And what this means is you want to streamline the task in the middle of the workflow. not automate the entire thing so that there's no longer a human in the loop. That's the lesson that Anthropic is teaching us with these skills.
And whenever there's money involved, build the automation right up to the edge of the decision, stop, and then bring in a human. Category six is operations, hiring, and briefings. This went from five skills to seven, but I want to show you specifically what happened to the briefing skills they had.
Previously, they had both a Friday brief and a quarterly review skill, but both of them were deleted and they left a Monday brief as the one remaining brief. And the logic here is simple. Less noise, more signal.
You're better off with one report that you actually open and build on instead of just having multiple reports that you don't actually look at. And a takeaway you won't hear people say often, but I stress this on this channel, is that less is more. And in this case, it's clear Anthropic agrees with me.
So building on that, let's talk about two skills. The Monday brief, which will work if you have anything set up or not. So just go run it and just see what happens.
And then the inbox manager is a great example of an orchestration skill. When you run it, each email gets routed to a specific skill that handles it rather than one skill trying to handle everything.
And I touched on this earlier in this video, but that orchestration versus utility skill, the inbox manager is a perfect example of an orchestration skill. And for automations where the input varies a lot, for example, your inbox, that breakdown is super important. You want specific skills that the orchestration skill calls because that's how you actually make it work.
So your takeaway here is go look at your system and ask yourself, honestly, is there noise here? The majority of people's instinct is to add more, more, more. right another report another channel another check -in the better move is to cut down to one signal that you'll actually act on and if you do have a workflow with a lot of variance break it into smaller routed skills zooming out on screen you can see a full breakdown of what the 44 skills are and which category they break down so you know exactly where each new skill lives across the board you'll notice the same few patterns running through all of the categories you'll notice utility versus orchestration some skills do one job start to finish the others just route to the right skill And knowing that difference tells you how to read and build systems just like this.
The next is a consolidation over addition. Anthropic didn't just add skills. They deleted overlapping ones and then they removed unnecessary ones.
The third is automate the prep, not the decision. From finance to sales to briefings, the pattern holds true. Claude gathers, ranks, drafts, and prepares, but the human will review and decide.
And these concepts aren't just for Anthropic's plugin. You should be thinking about how this applies to your own systems, whether you run a business, or you have a job where you're trying to be more productive.
Anthropic has showed you exactly how to think about building a system, what to keep, what to cut, and where to draw the line between automation and augmentation. And this is all powerful, but when you decide to actually build a skill, you have to make sure that the skill itself is optimized. And this video, I touched on a number of concepts, but there is so much more to the story.
So to see exactly how Anthropic creates skills from scratch and then optimizes them, go check out this video. If you like this, I guarantee you're gonna love that. See you over there.
Peace.
