Big Idea

The argument in one line.

A ChatGPT plugin called ChatCut can take raw talking-head footage and a text prompt and return a fully cut, color-graded, motion-graphics-heavy video, with an entire 11-minute build costing about $6.40 in API spend.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • Creators who shoot talking-head content and want motion graphics without learning After Effects or hiring an editor.
  • Anyone curious what AI-driven video editing tools can actually do today, beyond auto-captions and auto-cuts.
  • Builders interested in prompt-driven creative tools and how far natural-language control now reaches into video production.
SKIP IF…
  • You need frame-accurate manual control over every cut and graphic placement; this is a prompt-steered workflow, not a hands-on one.
  • You're not already inside ChatGPT/Codex; ChatCut only runs as a plugin in that ecosystem.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

A Codex plugin called ChatCut turns ChatGPT into a video editor: drop in raw footage, describe the cut you want, and it transcribes, removes dead air and filler, smooths audio between takes, and even fixes an unsupported file format on its own. From there, the same chat drives motion graphics, color grading, cropping, and punch-ins through plain-language requests like "add more glow" or "apply a liquid glass effect." The key cost-control move is approving a cheap five-second graphics preview before asking for the full treatment. The creator's full 11-minute edit, including a stylized pixelated-world finale, ran about $6.40 in raw API cost, a fraction of manual Premiere or After Effects work.

01 · Cold open: "100% edited by AI"

Marcin shows the finished graphics before explaining how ChatCut made them, using the output itself as the hook.

00:26 – 01:14

02 · Install ChatCut + write the master prompt

Installs the ChatCut plugin from Codex's plugin list, picks a model, and starts drafting one prompt that bundles the goal, the source file, and the quality bar.

01:15 – 02:08

03 · Pull a style reference from Dribbble

Grabs a motion-graphics shot from Dribbble and drops the URL into Codex as a visual reference instead of describing the look in words.

02:08 – 02:57

04 · The full prompt: cut it clean first

Finalizes the prompt: remove mistakes, pauses and filler words into one fluid edit, then layer motion graphics on top of that clean cut.

02:57 – 04:14

05 · ChatCut's editor takes over, hands-free

Codex launches the dedicated app.chatcuts.io editor, runs transcription, removes gaps and dead air, levels dialogue, smooths audio joints between takes, and auto-converts an unsupported ProRes file.

04:43 – 06:23

07 · Cheap preview first, then iterate the style

Requests a 5-second graphics preview to approve the look before paying for the full render, then iterates with "more glow and shadows" and a liquid-glass transparency treatment on the cards.

06:24 – 07:33

08 · Scale up: "be the wild motion graphic designer"

Once the look is locked, asks ChatCut to apply a much heavier graphics treatment, including 3D logos and fire, across the first 20 seconds, then reveals the result.

07:33 – 08:23

09 · Review the cut, then the real cost

Compares the output to the goal, then checks token usage mid-project: about 30M cached, 1M fresh input, 119K output tokens, roughly $6.40 at API pricing.

08:23 – 09:22

10 · Color grade, center, punch in, blur the background

Requests a cinematic color grade, centering, punch-ins on cuts, and a cropped/blurred-background look for the first 20 seconds, all as single-line asks.

09:22 – 10:34

11 · Finish the video: UI tour, timeline b-roll, pixelated world

Final prompt picks up mid-video, asks for visual coverage of the ChatCut install/plugin steps, sound effects throughout, a moving timeline graphic for the "step by step" section, and a stylized pixelated-world ending. Renders in about 7 minutes.

10:34 – 11:21

12 · Final playback and wrap-up

Plays the completed video, recaps what the AI handled end to end, and closes with the AI Builders community plug.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • An AI plugin inside ChatGPT can cut raw talking-head footage, build motion graphics, and color grade it from text prompts alone, with no timeline scrubbing.
  • Pointing the AI at a reference clip pulled from a design site like Dribbble works better than describing a visual style from scratch.
  • Generating just a five-second motion graphics preview before approving the full render is the cheapest way to lock a style before committing credits.
  • A full AI edit and motion graphics pass on an 11-minute talking-head video ran about $6.40 in raw API cost, by the creator's own accounting.
  • The tool auto-detected and converted an unsupported ProRes file without being asked, instead of erroring out.
  • Style notes function like creative direction to a human editor: "more glow," "liquid glass," "no full background" are instructions, not settings.
  • The same prompt pattern, clean cut first and graphics second, scales from a simple two-logo opener to a full AI-generated pixelated world.
  • Punching in on cuts and cropping with a blurred background are one-line requests instead of manual keyframing.
Takeaway

A prompt can now replace a timeline

WHAT TO LEARN

Editing a talking-head video down to motion graphics and color grade now runs on plain-language prompts inside ChatGPT instead of manual timeline work, and the whole build cost about $6 in raw API spend.

01Cold open: "100% edited by AI"
  • The opening uses its own output as the pitch, showing the finished motion graphics before explaining how they were made.
  • Leading with proof instead of process earns attention faster when the subject is a technical build.
02Install ChatCut + write the master prompt
  • The master prompt bundles role, deliverable, source material, and quality bar into a single message instead of a back-and-forth.
  • Naming a specific output file and folder structure grounds the AI's actions to one real location instead of leaving it to guess.
03Pull a style reference from Dribbble
  • Dropping a URL to an existing design as a reference teaches the model your taste faster than adjectives do.
  • Treat a portfolio site like Dribbble as a borrowable style library inside a single prompt.
04The full prompt: cut it clean first
  • Spelling out exactly what "polished" means, no gaps, no ums, no pauses, keeps the AI's definition of done aligned with yours.
  • Ordering the request, edit first and graphics second, forces a clean base cut before any visual complexity gets added.
05ChatCut's editor takes over, hands-free
  • The tool ran transcription, cut detection, gap removal, dialogue leveling, and a file-format conversion without being asked for each step individually.
  • Audio joints get smoothed automatically between takes, a step that is manual and tedious in most editors.
07Cheap preview first, then iterate the style
  • Approving a cheap five-second preview before the full graphics render is the single biggest cost-control move in the workflow.
  • Style feedback reads like direction to a junior editor: more glow, liquid glass, keep it transparent, no full background.
08Scale up: "be the wild motion graphic designer"
  • Once a look is approved, the same instruction set can be told to go wild and apply itself across a longer stretch of the video.
  • Asking the AI to act as "the wild motion graphic designer" produces noticeably more graphics than a neutral request would.
09Review the cut, then the real cost
  • The whole 11-minute edit and motion graphics build cost about $6.40 in raw token spend, with cached tokens making up the bulk of it.
  • Checking cost mid-project, not after, is what let the creator keep scaling the treatment without a surprise bill.
10Color grade, center, punch in, blur the background
  • Color grading, centering, cropping, and punching in on cuts are each one-line requests instead of separate manual passes.
11Finish the video: UI tour, timeline b-roll, pixelated world
  • Picking up mid-video from an exact timestamp and finishing from that point avoids re-rendering material that already worked.
12Final playback and wrap-up
  • A tool like this does not just save editing time, it removes the skill floor for motion graphics that used to require After Effects experience.

What you're watching right now is 100 % edited by AI. These graphics right here. Boom.
Check these out. This animation on screen right now. All AI.
I did not sit inside of Adobe Premiere or After Effects for hours doing this. And this is all done inside of ChatGPT. It's an actual native plugin that you could start using today.
Let's get into it. Let me show you step by step on how you can do this right now and create any type of world you want in your videos. All right, so first things first is you need to make sure you have the most recent update of codex So if you guys go over to your plugins on the left side There is one now called chat cut if you don't see it Just go to plugins and then search for it right here And then you're going to select it and then you're going to install it All you have to do is connect it and then log in with an account Then we're going to go home and then you're going to launch a new project.
We just need a really good prompt So here's what i'm going to say I want to edit a new intro video with full motion graphics animations. I'm going to give you a video file and I want you to use chat cut to do all of the editing and the motion graphics in this folder.
I'm going to select GPT 6 .1 sole. Let's go extra high. And then for this, since I want to make this very custom, I'm actually going to go over to dribble and then I'm just going to say like motion graphics.
And let's just find like a really beautiful looking motion graphics that we could try to recreate. You could let Codex do this for you, but if you have an inspirational piece of content that you like, include it. All right, this is perfect right here.
So check this out. This has a lot of beautiful transparency, overlays, a lot of different logo animations with shadows. Look at some of these.
So all I'm gonna do is I'm just gonna copy this URL and then we're gonna go back to Codex and I'm just gonna drop that in and I'm gonna say, take a look at this video. to see all of the design elements that I like, the shading, the color, the typography, the transparency, everything that's in this video, I want to use as inspiration for my video.
And then all I'm gonna do is I'm gonna drag this video, but this is the raw version. So let me actually show you what this looks like. It's super basic.
Here it is right here. There's a bunch of mistakes, bunch of pauses. it's unedited it's super raw i also want you to edit this video completely so it's one fluid video i want you to cut out all the mistakes i want you to cut out all the pauses and i want you to make sure there's no gaps no ums and ifs and make it a super polished video edit it first and then we're going to do all of the motion graphics animations everything based on this and there we have it that is the prompt so pretty straightforward if you have design brand spec include that in there It's pretty much limitless.
So we're going to do edit first because I want to make sure the video's there. And as you're going to see in a second, what this is going to actually do is this is going to bring in a dedicated editor. So here it is.
Now it's loading up our video editor. You can see it right here. So it's called app .chatcuts .io.
And now Codex is going to actually drive this whole editor. So first thing it's doing is it's running the transcription. So it's actually to get everything, all the natural sentence breaks.
So the whole video is going to be edited perfectly for us. And of course, there's no limit to this. So if you have brand assets, logos, things you want to do, include it all in here, drop it into the actual editor so we could use it.
As you can see, it just dropped the video. Look, it's hands free. I'm not doing anything.
So it's actually editing everything for us. And now it's going to clean up the edit. There it is.
Look how fast that was. And it cut out all of the space. It cut out all of the gaps.
And now we have a final video. And one of the big things that it has built in transcription and also we can view the video so we can actually see exactly what is being said and what's on screen. So when I say, hey, put stuff in my hands, it's going to know exactly what part of the video that is.
And then it's going to create the corresponding graphics. So one great thing, it's already running through the automation. It said it removed the timestamp gaps.
It's fixing the dialogue levels and also softening the audio joints. So it's going to be smooth transitions between the takes. This is all stuff that you would have to do manually.
Oh, check this out actually. So my video was ProRes because I'm filming 4K on my phone and it actually converted it because it couldn't read it. And it just did that all on its own.
It didn't ask me and say, I can't import this video. It just fixed it. It found a solution.

All right, everything is finished editing. So now we're going to go to the next phase. So here's what I'm going to do first.
So I'm going to say the edit is perfect. What I want to do next is create the first version of a motion graphic so I could make sure that you took the reference file properly. So make couple screens, couple different things on screen, grab a few logos that I'm talking about and put them on screen in the first five seconds so I could review.
Just add a bunch of assets in the first five seconds so I could see all of them, approve all of them, and then we can actually do the whole video. This is just a tip to save you a bunch of credits. Look, it got the ChatGPT logo.
Premiere Pro logo, After Effects logo, Chatcut logo, and then a couple of my other assets. This is the great thing, is it's actually going out online and grabbing all of these for us. All right, we just got our first version.
Remember, I just said do the first five seconds. Let's take a look at this amazingness. What you're watching right now is 100 % edited by AI.
These graphics right here, boom, check these out. It got all of the logos correct, so everything is perfect. Obviously, it's pretty simple still.
I want you to add a lot more glow effects and shadows throughout the whole thing. All right, second prompt. There it is.
We got a lot more glows now. We got some animations. Yeah, this is way better.
What I want you to do next is I want you to make sure that you're applying the liquid glass effect to any type of backgrounds. So for the different cards, I want them to be transparent and slightly blurred. So then this way we can have like this nice transparent feel to the whole thing.
all right perfect let's take a look there we go it's beautiful translucent i like it yes you can see that's translucent too but it has that background but we're not going to have the background in there so now we have our look i like it let's run with this i'd never want you to add a full background across the screen i only want Cards and animations and logos flying in now what I want you to do is I want you to go through the first 20 seconds of this video and I want you to add a lot of motion graphics animation sound effects basically the whole treatment of this video and I need you to Create more graphics than you would normally create because the whole purpose of this video is to show people what's possible With motion graphics animations, so I want you to be the wild motion graphic designer and show me what you're capable of actually doing and let's see what it cooks up now.
Oh, I'll throw in one more thing. And feel free to create 3D animated logos, fire, all kinds of visual treatments to really spice this video up. and again you might not need this for your videos but the whole purpose is to show you what this is actually capable of all right the video is done now let's actually take a look at it i haven't watched it yet so let's see what this looks like what you're watching right now is a hundred percent edited by ai these graphics right here boom check these out this green screen all ai this animation on screen right now all ai boom there you have it guys look how good that is we picked our look we picked our theme and now it created obviously a lot of extra stuff because that was the purpose of this demo was to show you that it could pretty much do anything as you can see right here i did not sit inside of adobe premiere or after effects for hours so the timing is on point it's reading the transcript so this is how you actually do it inside of chat gpt
So now what I want to do is I want to actually have it do color grade. But before we do that, I want to show you how much it's cost up to this point. So right now it's used up 30 million cached and reused input.
Fresh input is 1 million tokens. And then output is 119 ,000 tokens. If it was API cost, it would be about $6 .40.
That's not a lot. If you were to do this in other tools, which I've done a lot, it's a lot more and it won't have the look of this. Next, what I want you to do is I want you to color grade this and also center my video.
And then I want you to be able to punch in on different cuts. So whenever there's a cut in the edit, I want you to punch in a little bit, especially when pointing out certain parts of the video. And then the color grade, give it like a really nice cinematic look.
And then if you could actually crop me out and then create a blurred background for this video and just do the first 20 seconds. Perfect.
Let's see what it can do now. All right. We have our rendered video now.
So you could see it's blurred background. Boom. And did you see that?
There's that little zoom in. Right now we have our working version right here. So what I want to do next is I really want to finish this video completely.
So here's what I'm going to say. Let's pick the video up at 16 seconds where it says, and this is all done inside of ChatGPT. And then I want you to do the rest of the video.
Make sure when we're talking about chat cut, the plugin. Make sure we're showing all of those parts of the website, zooming in, installing the plugins, so it's very visual. Also, I want you to do a bunch of sound effects on the whole video.
And then when I talk about step by step, I want you to show the actual timeline with a different layer that's moving around. And then also at the very end, where you can create any type of world, I want you to turn my video into a super stylized, pixelated type of crazy world for the video to get the wow factor. Finish the video and we're going to have a completed project.
That's it. And it basically cooked for about seven minutes. All right, here's the final video.
What you're watching right now is 100 % edited by AI. These graphics right here. Boom.
Check these out. This green screen. All AI.
This animation on screen right now. All AI. I did not sit inside of Adobe Premiere or After Effects for hours doing this.
And this is all done inside of ChatGPT. It's an actual native plugin that you could start using today. And all of this is natively set up inside of ChatGPT.
Let's get into it. Let me show you step by step on how you can do this right now and create any type of world you want in your videos. I mean, check that out.
How cool is that? Using natural language. Check out this ending, this pixelated world, all done within the app.
Look at this animation. Like that's really clean, very visual. It's pretty much got everything.
And again. Look at all the screenshots that it took. It went in and recorded all the thumbnails, brought in videos, animated everything, put the text in the actual chat GPT display to then create a screenshot from animation, sound effects.
This is pretty incredible that this was able to do this in such a short amount of time. And of course, hope you guys enjoyed this video. Give me a follow if you like AI and also come hang out with us inside of our school community, AI Builders.
All the links are in the profile and I'll see you in the next video. Peace.
The Hook

The bait, then the rug-pull.

Marcin opens by showing off the very motion graphics the video claims were built entirely by AI, then explains that a Codex plugin called ChatCut produced them from nothing but raw footage and a chat prompt.

Frameworks

Named ideas worth stealing.

04:43list

The ChatCut Prompt Stack

  1. Write one master prompt covering role, deliverable, source material, and quality bar
  2. Feed in a style reference (a URL or screenshot) instead of describing the look in adjectives
  3. Edit the raw footage clean first, cutting mistakes, gaps, and filler, before any graphics
  4. Generate a 5-second graphics preview to approve the look before paying for the full render
  5. Iterate style notes conversationally: more glow, liquid glass, no full background
  6. Scale the approved look across the full timeline in one heavier pass
  7. Finish with color grade, crop, and punch-ins as one-line requests

The seven-step prompt sequence the video demonstrates for turning raw footage into a graded, graphics-heavy edit entirely through chat.
