Big Idea

The argument in one line.

Instead of buying separate microsite domains for each local search term, businesses get more SEO value from keyword-targeted landing pages built inside their main site and backed by unique per-location blog content.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • A local service business owner, plumber, contractor, or other home-service provider trying to rank for city plus service search terms.
  • An SEO or marketer managing multiple service-area pages who wants a scalable alternative to buying exact-match domains.
  • Someone evaluating AI content tools for generating landing pages and blog posts at scale.
SKIP IF…
  • You run an ecommerce or national brand with no city-by-city service area to target.
  • You want technical, code-level SEO instruction rather than a content and page-structure strategy.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

Microsites, separate domains built around one exact-match keyword like draincleaningmiami.com, capture search traffic and funnel it back to a main site, but that means managing a domain for every service and city. The video argues for a cheaper alternative: build landing pages inside the main site, targeting the same keyword in the URL slug and H1, then link each one back to a core service page. Duplicate the structure across nearby cities with unique content per location so Google doesn't flag it as duplicate, and support the whole network with SEO blogs linking back to the landing and service pages. The demo uses Arvo to generate templated, location-specific articles and handle technical SEO automatically.

01 · What microsites are for SEO

Opens by defining a microsite as a separate site built to target one keyword combination and funnel traffic back to the main business site.

00:17 – 01:04

02 · How a microsite targets keywords

Sketches the main-site-plus-microsite relationship on a whiteboard: the microsite targets a direct-match keyword and links back to the main site.

01:04 – 02:03

03 · Finding service keywords in Search Console

Shows a sample Google Search Console query report for a Miami plumber, pointing out that real customer search terms often differ from the service names a business assumes.

02:03 – 02:27

04 · Using exact-match domains or subdomains

Demonstrates searching GoDaddy for an exact-match domain like draincleaningmiami.com, or alternatively adding the keyword as a subdomain of the main domain.

02:27 – 03:02

05 · Why landing pages are the better alternative

Pivots to the video's real recommendation: skip separate domains and instead build a landing page inside the main site that matches the keyword in its H1 and content.

03:02 – 03:55

06 · Building keyword-focused service landing pages

Walks through putting the target keyword in the page slug and H1, for example drain cleaning miami, with supporting content about the company and the specific problem.

03:55 – 04:52

07 · Linking landing pages to core services

Explains linking each keyword landing page back to a broader service page, so a visitor who lands on a niche page can navigate to the main service offering.

04:52 – 05:27

08 · Expanding pages across nearby cities

Shows how to duplicate the landing page structure for nearby cities, Coral Gables and Naples, keeping the target service the same but swapping the location.

05:27 – 06:06

09 · Creating a consolidated local SEO framework

Zooms out to the full network of pages built this way, calling it a self-contained SEO network that avoids managing separate domains or subdomains.

06:06 – 07:12

10 · Supporting landing pages with SEO blogs

Adds a third layer: SEO blog posts written for each service and city, linking to both the landing page and the service page to reinforce the same topic.

07:12 – 07:37

11 · Connecting content to appointment conversions

Ties the network together, arguing that whichever page a searcher lands on, blog, landing page, or service page, they all funnel toward the same booking or consultation goal.

07:37 – 08:44

12 · Using Arvow templates for local pages

Introduces Arvo as the tool used to execute the strategy, showing a plumbing-industry template built from a generation prompt and markdown outline drafted with the help of an AI model reading Arvo's API docs.

08:44 – 09:52

13 · Generating unique pages for each location

Demonstrates filling in service, city, and state variables to generate new articles per location, emphasizing that each output is genuinely unique content, not a find-and-replace copy.

09:52 – 10:31

14 · Publishing landing pages and blog content

Shows a generated Sink Repair in Miami, Florida article that can be downloaded as HTML, Markdown, or a Google Doc, or published directly as a landing page and separately as a blog post.

10:31 – 11:20

15 · Built-in technical SEO elements

Points out that generated articles already include alt text, H1s, H2s, and meta descriptions, removing a separate technical SEO pass.

11:20 – 12:57

16 · Additional Arvow SEO tools

Tours other features in Arvo: Google Business Profile review automation, automatic backlinks from the tool's user network, a site optimizer, an LLM brand-visibility monitor, a competitor site explorer, and a chat feature for turning outside content into new articles.

12:57 – 13:20

17 · The landing-page-and-blog strategy

Closes by restating the thesis: the landing page plus blog strategy outperforms microsites, and running both at once just means competing against yourself for the same keywords.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • A microsite is a separate domain built around one exact-match keyword, like draincleaningmiami.com, that sends captured search traffic back to a main site.
  • Landing pages inside your main site can match a microsite's keyword targeting through the URL slug and H1, without the cost of buying and maintaining separate domains.
  • Search Console query reports often reveal that customers search in ways businesses don't expect, such as sink repair instead of the service name a business assumes, like drain cleaning.
  • A landing page strategy scales by duplicating the same page structure for each nearby city, changing only the target city and keeping the content unique.
  • Regenerating an article with only the H1 changed while leaving the rest of the content identical gets flagged by Google as duplicate content and won't get indexed.
  • Linking a core service page to city-specific landing pages, and both to a supporting blog post, gives a reader three separate paths to find the same booking page in search.
  • Templates built for a specific niche, a generation prompt plus a markdown outline, let an SEO tool refill only the service, city, and state, then generate a genuinely new article each time.
  • AI-generated landing pages can come with alt text, H1s, H2s, and meta descriptions already filled in, so a page is technically SEO-ready as soon as it's generated.
  • An LLM brand monitor tracks how often a business gets cited in AI chat answers to specific prompts, a separate signal from how it ranks in classic search results.
  • Running both a microsite and a landing page for the same keyword makes a business compete against itself for the same ranking position.
Takeaway

Landing pages beat microsites, done right

WHAT TO LEARN

A landing page inside your main site, linked to a service page and a blog post, captures the same local search traffic as a microsite without duplicating content or managing a second domain.

01What microsites are for SEO
  • A microsite is a separate domain built to target one specific keyword combination and route search traffic back to a business's main site.
  • The exact-match URL is the whole point of a microsite: it signals relevance for a keyword before a visitor ever reads the page.
02How a microsite targets keywords
  • A microsite pairs a direct-match keyword URL with content specifically about that one service, distinct from the general pages on the main site.
03Finding service keywords in Search Console
  • Google Search Console's query report shows the literal phrases people search, which often don't match the service names a business assumes it should target.
  • Location-based service queries, service plus city, are the pattern worth mining from a query report before building any local SEO page.
04Using exact-match domains or subdomains
  • An exact-match domain can be purchased outright or added as a subdomain of an existing site, both to house a single-keyword microsite.
05Why landing pages are the better alternative
  • A landing page built inside the main site can match a keyword through its URL slug and H1 without the cost or hassle of managing a separate domain.
  • Consolidating everything under one site removes the ongoing overhead of domain purchases and subdomain management.
06Building keyword-focused service landing pages
  • Put the exact target phrase in both the URL slug and the H1 so the page reads as a direct match without needing its own domain.
  • Fill the page with information specific to that keyword: the company, the problem, and how the company solves it.
07Linking landing pages to core services
  • Every keyword landing page should link back to a broader core service page, giving a niche visitor a path to the full service offering.
08Expanding pages across nearby cities
  • Duplicate the landing page structure for each nearby city, keeping the service the same and swapping only the location and its unique content.
09Creating a consolidated local SEO framework
  • Building this out for every core service creates a self-contained SEO network of pages that all live on one site instead of scattered domains.
10Supporting landing pages with SEO blogs
  • Adding an SEO blog post for each service and city gives a third page type that can link to and reinforce the landing page and service page.
  • The blog, landing page, and service page together form a comprehensive network all linking with the same helpful intent.
11Connecting content to appointment conversions
  • Whichever page a searcher lands on, the structure should funnel them toward the same booking or consultation action.
12Using Arvow templates for local pages
  • A content template built from a generation prompt and a markdown outline lets a tool regenerate new pages by swapping just a few variables like service, city, and state.
  • An AI model can read a tool's API documentation and a business's own website to draft that generation prompt and outline automatically.
13Generating unique pages for each location
  • Regenerating the same template with a new city or service should produce genuinely new content each time, not just a swapped headline, which is what keeps pages from being flagged as duplicates.
14Publishing landing pages and blog content
  • A single generated article can be published two ways, once as a landing page and once as a blog post, for the same location and service.
15Built-in technical SEO elements
  • Auto-generated alt text, headers, and meta descriptions can remove a separate technical SEO cleanup pass from the workflow.
16Additional Arvow SEO tools
  • An LLM brand monitor tracks how visible and how positively a business shows up when AI chat tools answer prompts in its industry, a separate signal from classic search rank.
  • Automatic backlink features can scan a shared network of published content for relevant linking opportunities back to a business's site.
17The landing-page-and-blog strategy
  • Running microsites and landing pages for the same keyword at once means competing against your own pages for the same ranking spot.

metaphor
all right what is a microsite how can it help you with your seo is it a good strategy let's break it down i'm going to talk about all of it how to implement it for your business but i'm going to give you some alternatives i think in some ways could be a better strategy for you depending on what you want to do for your business so basically a micro site is a site that you create for your business that's separate from your main site so if you have your main website here This is your main site, has all of your landing pages, has service pages, whatever, whatever.
A microsite is going to be a site that you build out targeting a specific keyword combination. So you have like direct match keyword combination for your URL. You talk about that particular service and then you send them back.
you link back to your main site so the goal is to capture this traffic in search and then send it back to your main site so some ways that you could do that is depending on your keywords um so this is like a sample of uh query search report you can get this from your google search console you can get this embed a lot of this is embedded in like your domain if you're on like wix or wherever you can do a plug -in for um analytics depending on what you want to use that's beside the point.
But basically, you're going to have your search queries. And that's going to tell you the actual data that you're going to target, depending on the search queries, basically, it's going to include one of your services and a location usually. So you can kind of see and some of these are different than what you think, because people are searching different than what you think you may not think that someone is searching for drain cleaning, right?
You're, you're doing like, sink repair, or clog removal or something like that not drain cleaning so some of these may be original search terms that you want to target so what you would do is you would go out and you would get that domain or you would see if that domain's available so you could do like drain cleaning miami and you would search for that domain and it is available so you could in theory purchase this or and or you could add it as a sub domain under your uh your original domain and then do a microsite that way so there's a lot of different ways to do it but basically you would build that out based on your keyword strategy and then you would build out multiple microsites for the main keywords you want to target and then they're all kind of leading back to your website but what i think is a better alternative and it's an easier alternative and a cheaper alternative is instead of that build out landing pages targeting those keywords so you're not going to have a direct match url but you're going to have a direct match in terms of how you're setting up as far as like the h1 in that and as far as the data that's in your actual landing page and this is going to work similarly to
uh microsites but it's putting all built into your main site so you're gonna have your main site right uh and then you're gonna have that build out but then you're gonna have your landing pages targeting uh each of those services so maybe you have a landing page targeting uh what we said before which is going to be drain cleaning miami So we're gonna create this and in the slug, you know, you're gonna have drain cleaning Miami, you know in the slug of the page you know, over here.
So it'd be like a front slash, you know, drain cleaning Miami. But then in the somewhere here in the first part in the H1, you can have drain cleaning Miami. Then you're going to have information that's including your company, including how to fix drain cleaning, how your company can fix drain cleaning, whatever the case may be.
But then you're going to build this out. So maybe we do emergency plumber Miami. That's gonna be a big one obviously plumbing or a track or anything like that emergency service is really important So you do emergency plumbing and then your slugs could be emergency plug -in plumbing So basically you're getting the same effect your people are searching.
They're finding the landing page And then they're bouncing to the you know, or maybe you're probably gonna have a button here or a link here That's gonna go to the actual service page, right? So you're gonna have your service pages targeting that specific service.
So you're gonna do all of your drain, clog, repair, that's gonna be a service page, but this is gonna link back to that service page. And then emergency plumbing page right here. So then this is gonna bounce back here.
But then what you're also gonna do, so instead of Miami, you're gonna say, what are the local areas around Miami? What are the local cities? Maybe it's like Naples or Coral Gables or whatever.
You're gonna build duplicate pages, not, not all duplicate it's gonna be duplicate in the fact that it's what it's targeting so now it's going to be um drain cleaning coral gables so you're going to build that one for coral gables and then you're going to do drain cleaning naples for all so it's you're changing the format you're changing what what's in here but the target is going to be the same it's going to be drain cleaning and then the city and then emergency plumbing Coral Gables, Emergency Plumbing Naples, right?
You're building this all out, but they're all leading back to this one main service page. And you're gonna go through and do this for all of the main services for your website. And then you're gonna build out that entire framework.
So this is gonna be a lot easier to do in terms of everything has to be consolidated inside. uh you know your website um you're not gonna have to mess with any sub domains you're not gonna mess with any uh purchasing main domains or anything like that but you're gonna go through and build out this framework this seo network so to speak so people are going to find you in search for all of these use cases for all these target problems and you're preventing uh you're creating these solutions with these pages and this works extraordinarily well if you do it correctly you're going to capture a lot of traffic doing it like this and then what you're going to do to further enhance this strategy is you are going to create content you're going to create seo blogs targeting each of those so i'm going to write a blog for emergency plumbing miami right it's going to either link to that landing page or that particular service page whatever you want to do so if we link it to that landing page and then the landing page is going to link back to the service page but we can also then link the service page to that blog page or we can link
to that landing page so it's going to be comprehensive network all linking together with the same helpful intent so this gives you a variety of ways to be found in search because when people are searching they may find your helpful blog article or they may find your service page or they may find that landing page either way they're going to get to the end goal which is booking that appointment booking that consultation so that's really going to emphasize and connect everything together what i use for this strategy is arvo It just makes it so much easier.
You can not only use it to write your blogs. You can use it to write those landing pages if you want. So what I do is I go in here and I create templates for that specific purpose.
So we can do we can create a template for anything. So if I go into manage templates, I can create like I have one here created for a plumber. Right.
And you can tell. uh basically you give it a generation prompt and then you mark down outline to create and put the information that you want on the page what you can do is you can use chadgbt or claude to read arvo's api documents and then you include your website url and tell it to give you a generation prompt and markdown outline for a template article for this purpose.
So basically you would tell it, I want you to use Arvo to create a template article. I need a generation prompt and a markdown outline that will allow me to enter in the service, the state, and the city. So that's how I have this.
And it gave me these, and then I just copied and pasted it in here. So it did all the work. It looks more complicated than it's not, but it did all the work for me.
So then how this works is when you want to generate an article, the template's already created right so i would hit generate i would go down to the plumbing template and then you would just put in the service so you could do drain repair miami florida drain repair naples florida drain repair coral gables florida right and it's going to create recreate the article but the nice thing is it's not going to be the same that's the mistake that people make before is they were just changing the h1 to change the location the rest of the article was the exact same that's not going to get indexed google is going to flag that right so this is the way to do it because it's generating a new article new information each time targeting that service in that state but including all of your brand information because those prompts because they analyze your url is going to include all the brand information so then when we create it like here's one that we did For sync repair in Miami, so it created this article that then we can open up and we can edit it further if we want But basically it's targeting sync repair for Miami and we can do one sync repair coil gables sync repair, whatever whatever But then we can download the article as an HTL markdown or a Google Doc and then input it in our website as a landing page really easy to do or and or
you could just publish this as a blog article so we can make this a landing page and also publishes as a blog article or just regenerate it for the same location so it is slightly different and then publish that as a blog article so two uh you know two birds with one stone here And then the nice thing is when it generates this information, it's going to have all the alt text, H1s, H2s, all meta descriptions, you know, anything that you need from a technical SEO standpoint, it's already creating it for you.
So it's making it really, really easy to implement this strategy. And you can do templates for any niche, any business, multiple templates. This works really well.
But also you can just do a regular SEO article. So I can go in here. and just do okay i want to do an seo article Then I put in the keyword that I want to target you can put a title if you want you don't have to Or there's other articles that you can generate you do a news article YouTube to blog posts So this works really well and there's a lot of other bells and whistles in here outside of the article creation landing page creation You can basically use there's a keyword planner so you can do SEO research If you have a Google business page, you can automate that you can automate your posts in Google business page and review automation two things to drive and improve your rank of your Google business page of your local business this is a necessity there's automatic backlinks so you enter your website and then when content is created with thousands of users across Arvo it's going to look at all the backlink opportunities and then place backlinks in the content that makes sense so you get the backlink or your other users get the backlink to your company whatever the case may be you can analyze your entire website
from a technical seo standpoint with a site optimizer and fix what's wrong with a couple of clicks there's an llm brand monitor you can monitor your performance across llms how you're showing up for specific prompts you could also add in your own prompts which is cool and monitor your performance invisibility What I do is when my visibility is low for a specific prompt, I just create content using Laravel around it and then the visibility improves.
And then there's a site explorer where you can analyze your pages or competitor pages, what's ranking, how much traffic they're getting. So that's just a few bells and whistles here. They also just uploaded a chat feature so you can use this to create content, ask for data, ask for information, do SEO research, turn information into content.
Really, really cool. So like here's an example. I included a LinkedIn post and I told it to create this in an article and add images.
So it created this amazing SEO post from a LinkedIn post that wasn't mine, but it made it a new post and changed around things and now I can use it. this and immediately publishes to my article or to my website so the the chat feature is really really cool lots of good lots of enhancements there but there's links below but that's the full strategy that i would do is that's better than microsites is the landing page strategy compared with blogs that is going to get you a ton more traffic a ton more rank and you're not competing with yourself you know if you're doing both you're competing with yourself in terms of those seo keywords uh and i wouldn't do that so this is an easier way forward i think so hopefully it helps you guys out i'll be back soon with some more good stuff have an awesome rest
