00:00Carousels are still a brilliant format for both reach and engagement. But if you've made a carousel before, you'll know how it goes. You design a beautiful front page, then you create the information page layout, and then you duplicate that a few times, and then you still have to copy and paste and swap content in for each of those slides.
00:17It's not a complicated process. But if you ever want to batch a whole month of Carousel posts, that duplicating and copying and pasting adds up to half a day just spent on that. Or worse, you spend hours designing a new carousel every time that you need one.
00:33Well, today, we're gonna use one simple on brand carousel template, connect it to a source of truth, and let Canva's bulk create tool help us batch as many finished and ready to post carousels as we need for the month, and all just in a couple of clicks.
01:00For the layout and design of the carousel, you can use a template that you've already created or used that works, or you can choose one from Canva's library and then make sure it's updated for your brand style. Just be sure that you've finished all the design work and the customizing of the layout and all of the text and placeholder images are where you want them to be because this structure that you're working with is the bit that bulk create depends on.
01:25Now most carousels, especially those with tips or sharing step by step information, use a pretty standard format of a hook, a secondary hook, some info slides, and then a call to action. In our example for today, I wanna create a series of five trends content to share over a period and help people build their brand.
01:47And this template we're using is actually from the starter pack of carousel templates that are part of my Canva OS course library. So in this particular design, I have the first slide that grabs attention with an image, the second which keeps people interested by promising an outcome that I know they want, followed by five really simple slides for the information that I'm sharing.
02:07Then there's a summary of sorts, and finally, a call to action, prompting them to save this for future reference, which, of course, is what we want them to do because it boosts the algorithm. Now FYI, Instagram allows up to 20 slides in total now, but, obviously, you can use as many or as few as makes sense for your content or for the platform you're using it on.
02:27In general, a five to eight slide carousel is pretty standard. A few other key things to remember. Make sure your headings and your body text are in separate text boxes and that your images are in frames or placeholders.
02:42Allow enough space in the text boxes so that if you replaced it with text that was a little longer or a little shorter, it's not gonna cause any layout issues. And thirdly, also check the alignment in the text boxes, both vertical and horizontal, so it makes it easy to swap in content while maintaining the integrity of the design.
03:01Now before we open Bulk Create, we need our content ready to go. You can build a table straight inside Canva when we get to Bulk Create, or you can prep it beforehand in a spreadsheet and then upload it as a CSV or even copy and paste it.
03:17But preparing it beforehand makes more sense and ensures a smoother process. And what this means is that you can prepare the content for as many carousels as you'd like in advance, spending your time where it really matters.
03:30And if you use AI to help you, it's easy to get Claw to create as a CSV or a table that's ready for you to use. Now I'm using a new Canvas sheet, and I'm just making sure I add a title that makes sense to me, and then I'm pasting in content I prepared earlier. Now for the structure of this text content, think of it like this.
03:50Each row in your table is going to become an entire carousel, and each column is one text or image placeholder in your design. So for this particular carousel design, I wanna be able to change the main title, the subtitle, the secondary hook, and for each of the five info slides, I wanna be able to swap out the heading and the body copy.
04:11So each of those need a column in my data source or sheet. Then I also have a final summary slide and, of course, the image on the front page. Now here, I'm just using five examples, but you could literally add in hundreds of rows and even get Canva AI to help you create more you hadn't thought of.
04:27And apart from the text content, of course, I said I also want a new image column. And then I wanna just drag in the image that I want to use for the cover image on each page. And if I then double click on the image, I can quickly resize or crop it to fit my design size better just right here in the sheet.
04:45I don't have to leave at all. And remember, images you wanna use need to already be uploaded to your Canva folders. So that's something to do before you start connecting things.
04:55Okay. Now for the actual magic bit. And you can do this starting in the sheet or starting in the design once you're ready.
05:02Just head to apps on the left hand side and search for bulk create. Click on it. It's the one without the flashy colored icon, and it'll just walk you through the process in three simple steps.
05:14First, you need to choose or add that data, that information. If you've prepared a spreadsheet, you can upload your CSV here or choose enter the data manually to type or paste the content straight into the table. And like in the Canva sheet we created, make sure that each column has a clear name because this is what you're gonna be matching to your design placeholders.
05:34I'm actually gonna choose the sheet that we created because I can search for it right here. Next, Canva will ask you to connect your data to your placeholders. And recently, Canva has actually made it even easier by using AI to analyze your content and then analyze your design and suggest the connections for you.
05:53But you can also just click on any placeholder on your page, choose connect data from that contextual menu bar, and select the matching column of data for each text or image box. Just work through slowly, make sure the connections are correct, especially on your first go.
06:10Once everything's connected though, you can reuse this exact template again and again for future batches, so the setup time is really just a one off cost.

07:05Okay. So now to the fun part. Once every content field is connected to a placeholder in the design, first click the three dots next to the continue button and select how you want these carousels to be exported or saved.
07:19So all in one design or as separate designs. And you can choose how to name them. Plus, you can choose a folder for them to be saved in, so it helps you keep your Canva setup super organized.
07:31And before you continue, Canva can even show you a preview of how your data is going to merge into the design. You can have a quick scan through those, and I think it's worth doing because this is the easiest place to catch any mismatched columns before you generate anything.
07:46But, of course, if it's just simple spacing or text size errors, those can still be tweaked later on. Then you just hit continue. Canva will confirm what it's creating, and you hit create designs.
07:58You can then click on the message that pops up when it's finished to be taken straight to the folder that they're in, and you can review the individual carousels for any weird spacing or things that you may wanna refine. And next, we just need to get these ready to post. You just click share when you're in a carousel, then download, choose PNG or JPEG to get an individual image for each slide, and you can then upload that to whichever social channel you're choosing to work with.
08:24So with only one on brand design and some time spent where it really adds value on genuinely useful content, we've taken one carousel and created an entire series of complete ready to post versions finished in a fraction of the time it would have taken to design even one from scratch.
08:43The beauty of this approach is that once you have one or two on brand carousel templates created or any other template, there's no need to spend ages tweaking the designs every time. You're sharing your knowledge and you're building brand consistency without the time suck.
