Big Idea

The argument in one line.

A clear, streamlined sales process turns any annual revenue goal into one testable daily habit, because working backwards through quarter, month, and week always resolves to a single number: how many sales conversations you start today.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • You're a coach, consultant, or agency owner with a defined offer price who has never mapped your funnel into hard conversion percentages.
  • You have a revenue goal for the year but no idea what that goal actually requires you to do today.
  • You keep chasing new marketing tactics instead of diagnosing why your existing funnel isn't converting.
SKIP IF…
  • You already track your funnel's stage-by-stage conversion rates and know your daily activity target.
  • You're running an e-commerce or product business with no sales-call component to your funnel.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

The video breaks down a backwards-math framework for turning an annual revenue goal into a daily action. A client charging $1,000 a month needs $120,000 a year, which means 10 active clients a month. Her funnel runs content to a free resource to a messenger conversation to a Zoom call to a close, converting 17% of conversations into calls and 10% of calls into clients. Working backwards through churn, that becomes 6 new clients a quarter, 20 Zoom calls a month, 28 conversations a week, and 4 conversations a day. The lesson: define your sales process in exact percentages first, then let the math name the one metric worth tracking daily instead of chasing new tactics.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • A sales process reduced to real percentages turns any annual revenue goal into one number: how many conversations you need today.
  • Charging $1,000 a month and needing 10 active clients a month is the same math as needing $120,000 a year — reframe the goal as headcount, not revenue.
  • A funnel that converts 17% of conversations into Zoom calls and 10% of Zoom calls into clients only needs 20 calls a month to add 2 new clients.
  • Working backwards from a quarterly target has to account for churn: this client needs 6 new clients per quarter just to stay flat, not to grow.
  • 20 Zoom calls a month, at a 17% conversation-to-call rate, means 112 conversations a month — 28 a week, 4 a day.
  • When a client says 'I need clients,' the first diagnostic question is 'how many conversations have you had today?' — not a new tactic.
  • A funnel can cost nothing to build: content, a free resource that solves part of the stated problem, a messenger conversation, a Zoom call, then a close.
  • Mastering one skill, sales conversations, compounds: as close rate improves, the same daily activity produces more clients with less total effort over time.
  • Choosing to serve lower-budget clients who churn faster is a deliberate business model, not a failure, once the funnel math already accounts for replacing them.
  • A revenue goal without a defined sales process turns into random funnels and disconnected tactics instead of one measurable daily habit.
Takeaway

Turn your revenue goal into one daily number

THE DAILY MATH

Every annual revenue goal collapses into a single measurable habit once you know your funnel's real conversion rates and work the math backwards through quarter, month, and week.

02Meet the client: a $1K/month agency chasing $120K a year
  • Reframe a revenue goal as a client-count goal first: $120,000 a year at $1,000/month per client is exactly 10 active clients a month, not an abstract dollar target.
  • A lifestyle-business goal (10 clients, $120K/year) is a legitimate target — you don't need a huge client roster to hit six figures if the offer price is right.
03The sales process and its real conversion numbers
  • Map your funnel in exact stages before building any marketing around it: content, a free resource, a messenger conversation, a call, then a close.
  • A free resource only works as a funnel step if it actually accelerates solving the specific problem raised in the content that led to it.
  • Know your two real conversion rates, conversation-to-call and call-to-client, before you try to hit a bigger number — random tactics can't fix an undiagnosed funnel.
04Backwards math, part 1: quarter and month
  • Build churn into your target from the start: a business serving lower-budget clients needs new clients every quarter just to stay flat, not just to grow.
  • Divide the quarterly client target by three to get the monthly number, then divide by your close rate to get the calls needed: 2 clients/month at a 10% close rate is 20 calls.
  • Choosing to serve clients with smaller budgets and higher churn is a valid business model as long as your funnel math already accounts for replacing them.
05Backwards math, part 2: week and day
  • Convert your monthly call target into a weekly one using your conversation-to-call rate, then divide by seven for a daily number you can actually check every day.
  • The daily number is the real management metric: it turns a vague goal like 'get more clients' into a habit you either did today or didn't.
  • When a client says they need more clients, ask what their daily activity number actually was — the gap is usually the answer, not a new strategy.
06Why this replaces guru tactics — and the results
  • Once you know the one daily number that drives your funnel, you can stop chasing every new tactic and spend your time getting better at that one skill instead.
  • Improving your close rate lowers the volume of activity you need over time, so skill-building compounds the same way lead volume does.
  • A funnel doesn't have to be flawless to work: even a client whose close rate 'needs work' can hit an annual goal if the daily activity number is honored consistently.

metaphor
One of the things that I have learned over the last several weeks is that so many business owners do not have a clear sales process. And in this video, I'm not only going to show you what a sales process looks like, I'm going to show you one of my favorite exercises that allows my clients to hit their revenue goals with such consistency every single year.
But it all starts with understanding what your sales process looks like and so what i'm actually going to do is i'm going to break down one of my favorite success stories okay so i have a client who runs a small little boutique agency and she helps business owners who are kind of just getting off the ground so her fee is a thousand dollars a month and her goal every year she doesn't live in the us she lives outside of the country is 120 K a year in her business.
And so that's literally just having 10 clients a month. So that's a pretty good lifestyle business, right? And so now that we know what her goal is, let me actually walk you through her sales process.
And then I'm going to show you a really cool way to know exactly what activity. you should be doing in your business every single day in order to hit your goals. And the answer is going to be in this math problem.
Okay. And so I actually want you to do this exercise after you watch this video. Okay.
Now, in order to get $120 ,000 every single year, She needs to understand what her sales process is because we can't build a marketing strategy around random sales pages, random Franken funnels. Like we want to build a marketing system around a very streamlined sales process.
And so I taught her my sales process. And so what my sales process looks like is I do content. I give away something for free that actually solves the problem that I'm talking about in the video.
The freebie accelerates solving that problem. I get people into a messenger conversation that goes to a Zoom call and then a PayPal. This was my first sales funnel and it didn't cost me a dime to actually do this.
And by the way, guys, I did this while working full time. Why did it work so well was because I was very clear on what my sales process looks like. And so I taught her this exact same process.
And so the first few months of us working this sales process. we figured out that she could get 17 .8 we'll say 17 to make the math to make the math easy she could convert 17 of people onto a zoom call and then once she had people on a zoom call she could close 10 of them into becoming clients yes her sales her close rate needs to be worked on but let's just go through the exercise so that you could actually see how this actually plays out.
And so how we figure out, how do we just consistently get her there every single year? Okay. So we've got the year.
We know that she needs to make $120 ,000. She needs to have 10 clients a month at $1 ,000 a month. So what we're going to do is we're going to do a little backwards math, but we're going to utilize this sales process because This only works if you are absolutely clear on what your sales process is, okay?
So in order to hit her goal every single year, we need to know, well, what needs to happen every single quarter? Well, because this particular client is still getting her business off the ground. She's two years in, but she's doing fantastic.
She knows that she has to enroll six people every single quarter. because of churn. Now, remember, keep in mind, she's working with business owners who don't have a huge budget.
They're going to come and go like kind of a revolving door. And that's just something that you understand whenever you're working with your ideal clients. And it's okay to work with people.
You don't always have to work with the best of the best. As a matter of fact, I get the most satisfying, like I get the most satisfaction by helping people. change their life versus helping another eight -figure earner earn an additional seven figures, right?
So she understands that in order to get six new clients every single quarter, she has to do a certain activity every single month. Well, what is it? Well, we got to go to the sales process, right?
This is where everything's going to map together. And so every single month, she knows that she needs to hop on 20 Zoom calls.
Why? Well, because six divided by three is two. So every single month, because her close rate is 10%, that's how she gets her two new clients.
Make sense? Okay, cool. Now, what's the next step, right?
If we know that we need to get on 20 Zoom calls, well, How many messenger conversations do we need to have in order to get those 20 Zoom calls, right? And so now we break the activity down into every single week.
Well, in order to get her messenger conversation, she needs to have 28 conversations.
every single week in order to get her 17%, right? So every single week, she knows that she needs to have her 28 conversations in order to book 20 Zoom calls a month. Let's see, 28 times four.
Let's see, 28 times four. That's 32, eight. That's 112.
right so for the month that is 112 conversations right so 112 conversations lead to 20 zoom calls okay now in order to have these 112 conversations a month and 28 conversations every single week well what does she have to do every single day well 28 divided by seven is four. Four conversations a day.
And so when this particular client comes to me and says, Laurel, I need clients, what do you think I ask her? How many conversations have you had today? And if she hasn't had four conversations, that is her most immediate constraint, and we're going to solve it.
And so this is why it's super important to understand what your sales process looks like, because behind every sales process is a math problem. And so this client no longer has to chase all of these tactics that all of these gurus are teaching. She just knows that if she spends all of her time mastering the skill of conversations, help her master the skill of closing on her sales calls so she knows that if she spends most of her time getting better at sales conversations through the dm on zoom calls she'll have to do less and less every single year as a matter of fact She has been consistently growing.
She's in her third year of her business and already she's at a little over $90 ,000 now. And so she's definitely going to crush her 120K a year goal. And like I said, she doesn't live in the US.
And so she's living rich where she is because her dollars go like 10, 20 times more than in the US. So hopefully this makes sense. Hopefully this helped you.
And you need to understand what your sales process is and then break it down. Do the backwards math. In order to hit this goal every single year, what needs to happen every quarter?
In order for this to happen every quarter, what needs to happen every month? In order for this to happen every month, what needs to happen every week? And then in order for this to happen every week, what needs to happen every single day?
So hopefully this makes sense. If you want the sheet that I give my students in order to do this, Drop a line below this video and I will give you that worksheet so that you can actually do this for your business.
