Big Idea

The argument in one line.

Every major AI editing capability -- color grading from a reference image, object removal, background removal, AI video generation, and 8K upscaling -- is now a single plugin install inside DaVinci Resolve.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • You edit video in DaVinci Resolve and currently bounce between the software and separate AI tools for background removal, upscaling, or image generation.
  • You want to color grade footage using cinematic reference images from Pinterest or movie stills without building custom LUTs from scratch.
  • You work with AI-generated footage that needs upscaling to pass as broadcast-quality.
  • You want access to multiple AI video generation models (Kling 3.0, Google VEO 3, WAN 2.7) without managing separate subscriptions or browser tabs.
SKIP IF…
  • You edit in Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro -- this plugin is DaVinci Resolve-specific.
  • You need production-grade precision; the demos are illustrative and results are cherry-picked best cases.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

Higgsfield is an AI plugin that installs inside DaVinci Resolve in about thirty seconds and adds seven distinct AI capabilities to the editing interface. The core value is consolidation: instead of tabbing out to a background remover, an upscaler, or a video generation platform, every action runs as a workflow integration panel inside the software you already have open. The plugin covers LUT-based color grading from a reference photo, draw-to-edit object and clothing removal, aspect-ratio-aware AI reframing, pixel-accurate background removal, Cinema Studio image and video generation, access to major AI video models including Kling 3.0 and Google VEO 3, and 8K upscaling -- all importable directly into the timeline.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • A single DaVinci Resolve plugin now bundles color grading, object removal, background removal, AI video generation, and 8K upscaling into one interface panel.
  • You can color grade any footage in under twenty seconds by uploading a screenshot from a movie or a Pinterest image as a reference -- no LUT library needed.
  • AI reframing fills in missing pixels when changing aspect ratio, which means a 16:9 timeline clip can become a 9:16 short without black bars or crop loss.
  • Background removal works frame-by-frame at the pixel level without a green screen -- you describe what to keep in a text box, not what to remove.
  • The Cinema Studio feature turns a reference image into a full AI video clip without leaving DaVinci, eliminating the stock footage site entirely.
  • The plugin gives you model choice on video generation: Kling 3.0, C Dance 2.0, Google VEO 3, and WAN 2.7 are all selectable from one dropdown.
  • Upscaling is positioned specifically for AI-generated footage, which typically lacks the fine grain and detail of real camera footage.
  • The install path is Workspaces > Workflow Integrations > Higgsfield -- thirty seconds from download to first generation.
Takeaway

One plugin replaces seven separate AI tools.

WHAT TO LEARN

The friction in AI-assisted editing is not the AI itself but the constant tab-switching -- Higgsfield solves that by putting every major generation capability inside DaVinci Resolve.

  • You can color grade footage in under twenty seconds by uploading any screenshot -- a movie still, a Pinterest image -- as a reference; no LUT library or manual adjustment required.
  • Draw-to-edit object removal works by brushing over the area and describing what should be there instead, which is faster than masking and more precise than traditional inpainting tools.
  • AI reframing is most useful for converting existing horizontal content to vertical without crop loss -- the model fills in the empty canvas rather than just repositioning the frame.
  • Background removal without a green screen is now a text prompt: you describe what to keep, the plugin processes every frame, and the output composites directly on the DaVinci timeline.
  • Cinema Studio lets you use a reference image to generate a custom AI video clip, replacing the need to leave the editing software and visit a stock footage site mid-session.
  • Having access to multiple AI video generation models from one dropdown (Kling, VEO 3, WAN 2.7) lets you match the right model aesthetic to the clip without maintaining separate accounts.
  • Upscaling is most valuable for AI-generated footage, which often lacks fine grain detail -- running it through an upscaler before export gives it the texture of real camera footage.

00:00Once you download this extension, you'll be able to color grade any footage you want however you want almost instantly. Generate high quality video, photos, and VFX that get dropped straight into your timeline. Remove your background down to the exact pixel without having to use a green screen or masking.
00:14Upscale any clip up to eight k resolution, and then there's draw to edit. You can draw directly on your footage to remove objects, add specific elements, or replace entire areas.
00:24Now the number one question I get asked, is AI going to take our jobs? The answer is eventually, but not for a while. For now, it just lets me maintain high quality edits and make more money than ever.
00:34Now to actually download this and connect it to DaVinci, it takes about thirty seconds. First, you can click the link in my description. It'll bring to this page.
00:41You're gonna click download and something like this will pop up on your screen. Once you double click that, it will begin installing. Now inside DaVinci Resolve, we're going to click workspaces, hover over workflow integrations, and then click Higgs Field.
00:53Now we have this pop up window here and we can begin editing our footage. Alright. Let's not waste any time.
00:58First, we have color grading. So we can select this LUTs button right here. Here we can upload a source frame and then we can upload a reference.
01:04So I'm actually just gonna come to Pinterest here and I'm just gonna search cinematic film looks. And then here I can just kinda scroll through and find an image that I like. Most of the time, I'll just select something from a movie like this.
01:16Once we find the exact one we want like this, we can take a screenshot, and then we can upload it into the upload reference here. We can select the strength that we want, and then we can hit generate.
01:26And then once we actually apply it to our timeline, you can see we're in our color page, and then we can adjust it further. This took us like twenty seconds, and we have a professional result. Let's try another example.
01:36I'm gonna come back to Pinterest and find an image that I like. I'm gonna take a screenshot, upload it into my upload reference.
01:43I'm gonna select my strength and I'm gonna hit generate. Again, if we need to, we can make any adjustments, but this looks good to me and let's move on. We have an option we can select edit video.
01:53It's gonna ask us to render out a preview of our clip. So if we select this, it'll render out the clip you have in your timeline, and then we have four options to choose from, draw from video, reframe, remove background, or upscale. So if I select to draw to video, we can draw over the objects we don't want and it will remove them, or we can draw over clothing and change the clothing.
02:12I can draw over a certain area and add objects to my video. So once you draw over something, we can select this text box down here and we can enter whatever we want to change. Once you've entered your prompt here, we can hit generate.
02:23And then as you can see, it'll give us the option to import this into our timeline or media pool. Moving on here, we have an option to select reframe. And so once we render out our preview, you can see that we have a bunch of different aspect ratios.
02:35And once you hit generate, it will use AI to fill in the missing spaces so that it fits perfectly for every aspect ratio. And of course, we can import it directly into our media pool or timeline after that. We can select remove background now, render out our preview, and then in this box here, we can write what we want to keep.
02:50So in this case, person, and then we can hit generate. Now it's gonna go through every frame and remove the background.
02:56And then once that's done, we can select bring into timeline. And so what we can do is drag it on top of our original clip here, and whatever we put in between these two is gonna appear in the background. So for example, I can drag on a text plus clip.
03:08I can write something like, hello, and I can increase the zoom here, and we can animate this to come in and out. Or for example, we can drag in a photo, place it off the screen, keyframe that position, and then we can come over 20 or 30 frames and drag it in.
03:24Now we can go to keyframes, select this little point here, select this drop down, and select ease in. And so that's a super quick way you can remove your background and then animate something behind yourself. So I already did multiple videos on Cinema Studio, but now it's integrated directly in our editing software.
03:39So we can select Cinema Studio, and then we can select this image tab up here. We can upload a photo of our reference, which is on the screen. We can ask it for a similar version of this, but make it more cinematic or ask it to change whatever you want.
03:51We just have to type the prompt right here, select the aspect ratio, the resolution, and hit generate. Now we can bring that photo over to the video tab, and then we can turn it into a full video. And so now once that video is done, we can select import and import it straight into our timeline.
04:05This makes it so we never have to leave our editing software. So let's do another example. I'm going to upload my reference, write my prompt, and then I'm going to hit generate.
04:13Gonna bring this into the video tab, write my prompt for the video, select my number of generations, and then hit generate. We have an insanely engaging clip now, and I only had to use about 2% of my brainpower.
04:25Now if we're not looking to change our footage in particular, there is a video generation feature and an image generation feature. So for example, if we select video generation, we have access to literally every model. Cling three point o, C Dance two point o, Google v o three, WAN 2.7.
04:40We can select the one we want, select the aspect ratio with the time duration, the resolution, and now we can generate whatever video we want by just typing in a prompt. Now once that video generation is done, we can simply just select import and bring into our timeline. Same thing with image generation.
04:54We have access to pretty much all the models. Like Nano Banana Pro and GPT image too. We can type in what we want to generate, select the resolution, and then again, select import and bring into timeline.
05:05This would be super useful when you're editing videos and your subject is talking about something. Instead of going to some stock image website, you can literally generate your photo here, bring it into your timeline. And then literally within twenty seconds, have your photo instead of leaving the software and coming back.
05:19So the last thing we have here is upscale. Again, we can select render preview and whatever clip you're on, it'll render it out. Then we can simply upscale it to whatever we want and hit generate.
05:28I would use this mainly for AI footage to give it that extra boost of detail and realism. This is definitely worth checking out and it will probably save you hours per day. Make sure you hit subscribe so you can stay up to date on integrating the latest AI tools into your workflow.
