Big Idea

The argument in one line.

A landing page outperforms every other sales mechanism because it has only one point of labor, traffic, instead of two, so once it's built it sells around the clock without anyone working it.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • You sell a course, coaching program, or digital product and currently rely on sales calls, webinars, or DM selling to convert buyers.
  • You have a landing page live right now but can't tell why it isn't converting.
  • You're about to write your first landing page and want a proven structure before you start.
SKIP IF…
  • You sell a service that genuinely requires a consultation before purchase, like high-ticket done-for-you work.
  • You're looking for traffic or ad-buying tactics; this video is entirely about what happens after someone lands on the page.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

Maria Wendt argues landing pages beat sales calls, webinars, and DM selling because they carry only one point of labor, traffic, instead of two, which is how she makes roughly 400 sales a day without talking to a single buyer. A working landing page does exactly two things: it states precisely what the buyer gets, and it gives them a reason to buy right now. She walks her own landing page line by line, a literal product title, a before/after subheadline, an inline definition of her own jargon, before live-editing a student's cluttered landing page on camera: cutting AI-looking graphics, breaking up walls of text, fixing a title that hid who the product was actually for, and adding the urgency the page was missing.

02 · Why Landing Pages?

Compares all four conversion mechanisms and isolates what makes landing pages uniquely leveraged: only one point of labor instead of two.

04 · My Landing Page

Walks through her own landing page: a literal product title, a restated-stakes subheadline, an inline definition of her own jargon, and stacked urgency angles.

05 · Student Landing Page

Live-reviews a student's submitted landing page, calling out visual clutter, a title that hides the real audience, text-heavy copy, weak testimonials, and missing urgency.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • Landing pages have only one point of labor, traffic, while sales calls, webinars, and DM selling all require a second point of labor: actually showing up to convert.
  • A working landing page does exactly two things: tells the reader precisely what they'll get, and tells them why they need it right now.
  • Product titles should describe the outcome literally, not sound clever; a vague name like 'Becoming Her' tells a buyer nothing about what they're getting.
  • Defining your own jargon inline, even a simple term like copywriting, removes a reason for a confused reader to click away.
  • Visual clutter costs sales: two high-impact colors plus dense paragraphs read as overwhelming and push people to click away before they read the offer.
  • A title that doesn't signal who the product is for can completely misread the offer, costing a sale from the right buyer and attracting the wrong one.
  • Large fonts with short, visually broken-up bullet points get read; dense paragraphs of unbroken text get skipped entirely.
  • Typed-out testimonials read as unverifiable; screenshots or video testimonials carry more proof because they look harder to fake.
  • Chains of multiple emojis in sales copy read as spammy and add to visual clutter rather than warmth.
  • Urgency isn't optional on a landing page; it's one of exactly two jobs the page has to do, alongside stating the offer clearly.
  • Scaling from zero to 400+ daily sales came from incrementally fixing small landing page details, not from a single breakthrough change.
  • A course mock-up that visually signals who the product is for, through relevant props, does more identification work than the headline alone.
Takeaway

Why one page beats calls, webinars, and DMs

LANDING PAGE RULES

A landing page only needs to do two things, say what the buyer gets and why they need it now, and every visual or copy choice either serves that or costs the sale.

01Landing Pages
  • Landing pages are the most scalable conversion mechanism because the page gets built once and then sells around the clock without any further work.
  • Treating a landing page as a conversion mechanism rather than just a page reframes it as infrastructure that should justify real upfront effort.
02Why Landing Pages?
  • Every conversion method, sales calls, webinars, DM selling, and landing pages, shares one point of labor: getting people to show up, i.e. traffic.
  • Only landing pages avoid the second point of labor; sales calls require taking the call, webinars require hosting them, and DMs require replying.
  • Removing the second point of labor is what lets a single landing page sell during hours nobody is working, which is the actual source of leverage.
03Building a Good Landing Page
  • A landing page only has two jobs: state exactly what the buyer will get, and give them a reason to buy right now.
  • Clear outcomes beat a list of included modules; buyers respond to what changes in their life, not to a feature inventory.
  • Urgency isn't a bonus section, it's one of the two required jobs of the page, which is why it needs a deliberate angle, not an afterthought.
04My Landing Page
  • A specific, literal product title beats a clever one; a buyer should know exactly what they're getting from the title alone, before reading anything else.
  • A subheadline that restates the stakes in one line, say the right words make the sale, say the wrong words lose the sale, does the clarity job twice in different words.
  • Defining jargon inline, even a simple term, removes a moment where a confused reader could lose interest and leave.
  • Reinforcing why now isn't a one-time section; a converting page can carry multiple distinct urgency angles stacked through the copy.
05Student Landing Page
  • Visually busy pages, two clashing bright colors plus AI-looking illustrations, read as clutter that pushes people to click away before they read the offer.
  • A title has to pass a one-glance test: does a cold reader understand immediately who this is for? This page hid the real audience, kids, not adults, until deep in the copy, which misread the offer entirely.
  • Walls of unbroken text get skipped; larger fonts, shorter bullets, and visually emphasized key words get read instead.
  • Typed-out testimonials with no screenshot or video read as unverifiable, and the strongest trust-building visuals, real testimonials, course mock-up, were buried at the bottom instead of near the top.
06Mastering Sales
  • A natural CTA follows directly from demonstrated expertise: after critiquing a real page live, pointing to a paid course on the same skill lands as a logical next step rather than a hard pitch.
  • Going from zero daily sales to 400+ came from incrementally fixing small landing page details, not a single breakthrough change.

analogystory
I make $23 million and get around 400 orders every single day with this one thing. And that one thing is my landing pages.
Here's why I love landing pages. They are the most scalable way to get clients. You make the page once, you write the copy once, you build it one time.
And then every day, over and over and over again, throughout the entire day, throughout the entire night, I make sales and I don't have to talk to anyone. And this is so much better and so much more scalable than any other way you can get sales. They're also called conversion mechanisms.
And so there's four conversion mechanisms. Sales calls, webinars, selling in the DMs. and landing pages and all of these conversion mechanisms are amazing i've made hundreds of thousands if not millions on each of these conversion mechanisms so i like all of them in fact i like all of them so much i went and made an entire sales course on how to make money from all of these they're all really good and depending on your business model they're fabulous choices But there's a reason I like landing pages the best, and I want to talk about what that reason is.
Now, with all four of these conversion mechanisms, sales calls, webinars, selling in the DMs, and landing pages, there's two points of labor. And the first point of labor is just getting people to show up. This is also known as traffic.
So sales calls, you have to get people to show up to the calls. Webinars, you have to get people to show up to the webinars. DM selling, you have to get people to reply to your DMs.
And landing pages, you have to get people to your landing pages. So in all of these, there's the point of labor of getting people to show up, a traffic point of labor. But here's what's different about landing pages and why I really like them.
With sales calls, you have to also take the call. So you don't make money unless you take the call. With webinars, you have to host the webinars.
You don't make money unless you host the webinars. Same thing with the DMs. If you're not in your DMs or applying back and forth, you're not making money.
But with landing pages, you can make sales. around the clock literally during the day and literally during the night and you don't have to be there talking to people in order to make that sale they just read the landing page that you've created and they decide to buy it's the most leveraged form of conversion because you only have one point of labor you only have the traffic point of labor and so all of the effort that would go into taking the sales call, hosting the webinar, selling in the DMs, gets redirected into solving the one problem, the traffic problem.
This is a very leveraged way to get sales. Now I want to talk a little bit about what makes a landing page work so well. Because if we're going to get people to this landing page, we want to make sure that we close them, we convert them right then and there.
So here's what makes a landing page work. One. it explains clearly what it is you're going to get and two why you need to get it right now so i'm very clear on the results that i'm going to get we're not looking for a list of the modules that are included we're looking for very clear outcomes that they are going to get when they buy this product and why they need to get it right now that's your urgency in my sales course i actually go over the nine different urgency angles that every landing page needs to have in order to make sales quickly because what we want to have happen is people get to your landing page they see what it is they're gonna get, and they know they need to buy it right now.
Okay, so this is one of my landing pages that makes me a ton of money. We have many like this. So we do, like I said, 400 orders a day.
We have a lot of landing pages selling a lot of different products. But what I wanna show you is a couple of things that I do really well on here. Number one, I kept the name of the product very, very specific.
You know exactly what it is you're going to get. One of the mistakes beginners make is they call their products, they title their products things that sound clever to them, like becoming her or up leveling. It doesn't mean anything.
We need to be very, very clear on exactly what it is we're going to get. Part of that is in the product title. I should read the title and know exactly what I'm going to learn, exactly what I'm going to get.
So in this one, words into money, colon, our copywriting course. What are you going to get? copywriting course that teaches you how to turn words in the money how to make a sale then you see the sub headline here say the right words make the sale say the wrong words lose the sale very clear again what are you going to get guidance on how to make the sale with the right words We're not even scrolled yet.
We're two lines in and I know exactly what it is I'm going to get. So then we scroll down. I want to show you some of the urgency angles.
I'm painting some before and after. I'm making sure, you know, copywriting can be a word that not everyone understands. So I define copywriting.
Copywriting is the art of persuading people to buy with the written word. It's just an official definition to help people understand what it is we're talking about. So then I talk a little bit about, you can see more examples of where I...
go into what exactly it is you're going to get and by the way i go over my entire landing pages in depth in the sales course because each one of these sections is really really intentional and it helps get the sale but i don't have time to go into all of that in one youtube video that course is a monster of a course it's really good but just know that each section of this landing page is really really intentional so you can see here what's included it's more examples of what it is you get you have a bonus That's really helpful.
That's why you need to get it right now. In the course, I go over other urgency angles. There's a lot of different ones that you can do.
But basically, you need to give people a reason to buy right now versus, oh, I'll come back to it later. And so the more urgency angles that you can leverage, the better. Here's another example of urgency angles.
Is now a good time for me to focus on copywriting? So some people might say, oh, I'm not going to worry about copywriting. I'll worry about it later.
I don't want people to think that. I want them to think, I need to worry about this right now. I say, yes, not knowing how to write persuasively when you want a profitable online business is like standing on the rooftops, yelling at the top of your lungs, but screaming in the wrong language.
It's a burning issue that needs to be immediately solved. What is that doing? That's creating urgency.
Why is this important? Because every landing page that makes sales does two things. One, it tells you exactly what it is you're going to get.
Two, it tells you why you need to get it right now. We give them a little sneak peek and then they buy. This landing page is exactly like many of our other landing pages that sell many other products.
It's a formula that has been proven to work over and over and over again in our business. Now, this here is a student's page that was submitted. I have my students submit their landing pages to me for review, and we're going to take a look at it together.
I'm going to tell you what the student has done, common mistakes that are made with landing pages so that she can improve it for her own landing page. But also more importantly, you can take it and apply it to your own landing pages. And let's not forget, we're doing this so we can make more money.
I started by getting, you know, zero daily sales. I was making no money. And then I went to getting a daily sale, one sale a day.
And then. 20 sales a day and then 50 sales a day then 100 sales a day and now we're up to like 400 sales a day and some days we're getting 500 even 600 orders in one single day which is really crazy but it starts by improving little things like this so let's do it let's get into it so first thing right off the bat there's so much visually going on here and i and dare i say there might even be chat gpt generated or cloud generated images I don't know why I'm thinking that, but this is just feeling these little handwritten things are screaming AI to me.
Maybe they're not, but they look it. And so that's a problem. And more importantly.
it's visually cluttered it's visually overwhelming if you compare that to my landing page um we like to keep things muted we like to keep things very simple and breathable i learned that back in my graphic design days if people are visually overwhelmed they're going to click away and i'm very concerned that they're going to be visually overwhelmed with all of this stuff going on and they're just going to click away if you want to clean it up so it's less visually overwhelming you have two very high impact colors you have a very bright yellow and a very bright blue so visually there's a lot going on color wise but probably even more importantly there's so much text going on Text, text, text, text.
Too much text going on. It's a nightmare visually, which I know is strong, but like it's what people think. Oh my gosh.
And then they click away and we don't want that. And so remove some of this text that's going on here. More importantly, we failed the first thing.
In this title, Healthy Friendships Made Simple, it sounds like, oh, this is great. I'm going to learn how to have a healthy friendship. And then a picture of a grown woman.
So when I first saw this landing page, I thought she was teaching other adults how to have healthy friendships, which I thought was great, right? You need to have healthy friends as an adult. Then I scroll all the way down and it's not until I read this tiny little font here, which let's be so for real, the only reason I'm reading this tiny font is because I'm reviewing her landing page because potential customers aren't going to sit there reading that.
So it's not until I get to this little point here where I realize, oh, she's going to help kids make friends. Oh. I'm doing this as a mom helping my kid.
So right off the bat, we failed the first test, which is, do I understand immediately what this is all about? Answer, no. We got to change the title of the course.
That's what I would do. Now, then we get to the what it is you're going to get. Here's the problem with this.
It's a freaking brick of text. A lot of you guys have stuff like this on your landing pages. Very hard to sit and read this.
If you contrast this to what I did, it was a much bigger font, which helps a lot. way less bullet points and they were very large and I even broke up the text to visually make certain words pop so that they could read it easier this is a brick of text with nothing visually breaking it up most people are not going to read this and they're going to click away so I don't like that now I like here how you have some testimonials but it's like the worst way to show a testimonial it's not a screenshot it's not a video there's nothing visual I have no proof or evidence that you didn't just sit here and type this out.
Now, maybe you didn't, maybe you did, but I don't see that. So I much prefer testimonials that are screenshots or that are even better, like videos of the student giving testimonials. Those are really, really nice.
Now we get to the next section. We broke one of my cardinal rules of just writing in general, which is the multiple emojis like that. To me, they look so spammy.
And they're also, again, visually cluttering. I wouldn't do that. Then again, we have a very cluttered image here, which we want to remove.
We talked about this. Now, here's what I like. She says, why trust me with your child's social growth?
I think that's a great way of asking the question. Why am I someone you should trust? I would have loved a big picture of you here, ideally with like the back of kids' heads so that we can see you in your element.
It's visual proof that you do what you say you do. And then I like here, I love this course mock -up. This course mock -up is so much better than the...
thing that you have up here um you you kind of left the the best for last down here at the bottom with this section this mock -up maybe this would be nice to put some kids here I would have a kid here um even if it's like a picture of two kids being friends and then also like your head over here just to show that you're the teacher but like again it's a grown woman it makes me think it's for grown friendships although These little things here in the actual mock -up help tell me they're for kids, right?
These look like school things. This actually helps a lot. The mock -up does.
Similarly, you have actual testimonials that look a lot more socially credible. So if you had started the whole landing page with something more like this and then this section, it would be much better. But you put this all the way at the very bottom.
This is fine. This is classic. I would change this to like...
I'm ready for my kids to have friends or something like that. I'm ready to help my kids get more friends. A little bit more of a compelling CD8 like call to action there.
There's also no urgency here. The urgency angles that I would use are like, hey, every day your kid goes by and isn't addressing some of these issues, it's eroding their confidence further. It's pushing them closer to, I mean, it depends on how dark you want to go with it, but like.
Kids can really hurt themselves if they don't feel supported, if they feel bullied. And so we need to solve this immediately because it's going to have lifelong impact, lifelong bad things. And so that's kind of the angle that I would take.
You can also do things, and I talk about this more in my sales course, you know, like sales bonuses, coupons, flash sales. Like there's a lot of different things I talk about in my course that can be very helpful to create that urgency. But the fact of the matter is every day they don't solve this.
it's incredibly damaging to their child. And I didn't see you address this at all in a way that was visually clear and right there in my face. Now, most of you guys who do have landing pages are probably sitting here thinking, okay, I clearly need work with my landing page.
This is helping me understand why I'm not getting the sales I want. You're not alone. I created an entire course on this.
It's called Good People, Good Money, Mastering Heart -Centered Sales. We don't have to be aggressive when we sell. We just have to be smart.
And so I really believe that I should be teaching good people how to make good money. which is why I created an entire course on sales. I highly recommend you take a look at it.
I'm going to link it down in the description below. That's where I'll see you next.
