Big Idea
The argument in one line.
A DaVinci Resolve plugin embeds cloud (fal.ai, Comfy Cloud) and free local AI rendering directly on the timeline, letting editors generate, relight, and rotoscope without a browser or subscription, undercutting $50-130/month all-in-one platforms with a one-time purchase.
Who This Is For
Read if. Skip if.
READ IF YOU ARE…
A DaVinci Resolve Studio editor, VFX or 3D artist who wants AI generation, relighting, rotoscoping or 3D-to-photoreal conversion without leaving the timeline.
Someone paying $50-130/month for an all-in-one AI video platform who wants to compare it against a one-time-purchase, pay-per-render alternative.
Someone with a strong GPU (24GB+ VRAM) who wants unlimited, private, offline AI video generation for $0 beyond electricity.
SKIP IF…
You don't use DaVinci Resolve — this plugin only works inside it, so the workflow doesn't transfer to Premiere, Final Cut, or standalone AI web tools.
You're on a modest GPU wanting to render locally — the heaviest local video models need roughly 24GB VRAM, and some, like Minimax H3, are Windows-only for now.
TL;DR
The full version, fast.
AI Video Studio is a DaVinci Resolve plugin that puts AI video, image, 3D and sound generation directly on the editing timeline, so a shot can be generated, relit, rotoscoped, or turned from a raw 3D render into a photoreal clip without leaving Resolve or opening a browser. Rendering runs through three interchangeable paths: fal.ai's cloud models billed per generation (a five-second clip runs roughly $1-2), Comfy Cloud's monthly hosted-GPU credits, or fully local rendering on your own GPU for $0 beyond electricity (24GB VRAM for video, 8-16GB for images). The plugin itself is a one-time Gumroad purchase, which the video contrasts directly against Higgsfield's $49-129/month tiers where unused credits still cost full price.

Kevin frames AI as an evolving toolset, then previews the plugin: a full AI video studio built inside DaVinci Resolve that reads the timeline and generates with cloud or free local models, no browser round-trip required. He notes the prior video's response drove V3's new features and flags the Gumroad purchase and Skool community.

02 · Opening the plugin in Resolve
He opens a blank Resolve Studio project and shows Workspace > Workflow Integrations > AI Video Studio to launch the panel.
02:03 – 03:28
03 · Video generation + camera & lighting presets
Tour of the Video Generation tab: text/image/video-to-video with Seedance 2.5, Minimax and more, plus camera/lens presets, a lighting-rig preset (studio/interior/exterior + custom prompt), and camera-animation presets so users don't have to hand-write motion prompts.
03:28 – 05:10
04 · Edit videos straight from your timeline
Edit Video connects directly to the active timeline and can be docked/pinned in the UI. He prompts Seedance 2.0 to turn his own webcam shot into a night scene with the mic arm removed, using a reference option that grabs a screenshot straight from the current Resolve frame, then drags the result back onto the timeline.
05:10 – 06:16
05 · Reframe, relight, upscale & auto-rotoscope
Quick tour of Draw-to-Video, Reframe (9:16 conversion), a relighting preset, upscalers, and an automatic rotoscope tool. He runs the rotoscope live (ProRes, Dynamic, 2K, cutout+matte) and gets a clean subject cutout plus a separate matte layer.

07 · 3D model generator
The 3D Model Generator, built on Tripo and Meshy, turns reference images into 3D models.
06:46 – 07:48
08 · 3D renders to photoreal (UE5 + AI)
'3D to AI' takes a raw clay/UE5 render, feeds it style references, and outputs a photoreal shot with the original motion preserved, demoed with Seedance 2.5 on an Unreal Engine 5 render.
07:48 – 08:04
09 · Sound design
A new Sound Design tool generates SFX with ElevenLabs, either from a prompt or matched to the clip itself.
08:04 – 09:06
10 · Node Studio & AI assistant
Node Studio is described as an advanced node-based workflow for chaining tools. The built-in AI Assistant, free via NVIDIA's serverless APIs, is demoed generating a puppy-in-a-field image with GPT Image, and can be pointed at a user's own OpenAI/GPT-5/Claude/DeepSeek key.
09:06 – 09:59
11 · Setup: API keys & settings
Settings covers the V3 'Update' section, switching Engine between fal (cloud) and ComfyUI (local/cloud), and adding a fal.ai API key from the fal dashboard.
09:59 – 11:41
12 · Free local rendering on your GPU (ComfyUI)
Switching Engine to 'This computer' connects to a locally running ComfyUI install; downloaded models (Minimax, LTX 2.3, etc.) are linked from a folder and GPU status shows as ready. There's an option to point at another machine's ComfyUI server, plus a Comfy Cloud fallback for hosted GPUs, and an Accounts section holding the free NVIDIA assistant key alongside optional OpenAI/DeepSeek keys.
11:41 – 15:19
13 · How the payment system works
Explains the three payment modes: fal.ai (pay per generation — ~$2 for a 5s 720p Seedance clip, ~$1 for a cheaper Minimax 4K clip, price shown before you generate), Comfy Cloud (monthly credit top-ups on hosted GPUs, credits hold value a year, 400-credit trial), and local rendering (unlimited, private, offline-capable, ~24GB VRAM for video / 8-16GB for images, costs only electricity). The plugin itself is a one-time Gumroad payment with no subscription.
15:19 – 16:55
14 · The real cost vs $100/month platforms
Direct comparison to Higgsfield: its Plus tier is $49/mo billed yearly (or $59/mo) and Ultra is $129/mo for 3,000 credits, neither rolling over, with top-ups expiring after 90 days, so a quiet month still costs full price. AI Video Studio bills fal renders at fal's own price or runs free forever on your own GPU, nothing expires, and a quiet month costs $0 — with the caveat that free local rendering needs a beefy card.
16:55 – 17:21
15 · Windows, Mac & the new Linux standalone
Wraps up platform support: works inside free and Studio DaVinci Resolve on Windows and Mac, plus a new separate standalone installer for Linux, then closes with a sign-off.
Atomic Insights
Lines worth screenshotting.
A DaVinci Resolve plugin now runs AI video, image, 3D and sound generation directly on the timeline, so nothing has to be exported to a browser and reimported.
The plugin offers three separate payment paths: pay-per-render on fal.ai, monthly hosted-GPU credits on Comfy Cloud, or unlimited free rendering on your own GPU.
A 5-second 720p Seedance 2.5 clip on fal.ai costs around $2, while the cheaper Minimax model runs about $1 for 5 seconds at 4K.
Free local video generation needs roughly 24GB of VRAM; local image generation only needs 8-16GB.
Higgsfield's Plus tier runs $49/mo billed yearly (or $59/mo month-to-month) and its Ultra tier is $129/mo for 3,000 credits, with none of those credits rolling over and top-ups expiring after 90 days.
The plugin itself is a one-time Gumroad purchase with no subscription; a quiet month of no rendering costs exactly $0.
The plugin's built-in AI assistant runs free through NVIDIA's serverless APIs by default, or can be pointed at a user's own OpenAI, GPT-5, Claude, or DeepSeek key.
The automatic rotoscope tool outputs both a clean subject cutout and a separate black-and-white matte in one pass, without manual keying.
3D renders from Unreal Engine 5 can be pushed through Seedance 2.5 with style reference images to become photoreal shots while preserving the original motion.
ComfyUI can be pointed at a different machine's GPU over a network address, so a laptop can trigger a render on a more powerful desktop.
The plugin can pull a reference image directly from the current DaVinci Resolve frame instead of requiring a separate screenshot or upload.
Local models like Minimax H3 are currently Windows-only; Mac support runs through the cloud instead, and Linux gets its own separate standalone installer.
Takeaway
Three ways to price AI rendering
PRICING MECHANICS
Whether an AI tool is actually free or affordable comes down to hardware requirements and how credits expire, not the sticker price on the plan.
03Video generation + camera & lighting presets
Camera, lens, and lighting presets (studio/interior/exterior, custom light-rig prompts) exist so you don't have to hand-write those details into every generation prompt.
04Edit videos straight from your timeline
Feeding an edit tool your own timeline footage, or a screenshot grabbed straight from the current frame, as a reference gets you a targeted edit instead of a from-scratch generation.
05Reframe, relight, upscale & auto-rotoscope
An automatic rotoscope pass can hand back both a clean subject cutout and a separate matte in one generation, skipping manual keying for a quick rough cut or comp.
083D renders to photoreal (UE5 + AI)
Feeding a plain clay/3D render into an image-to-video model along with style reference images can turn a placeholder render into a photoreal shot while keeping the original camera motion intact.
11Setup: API keys & settings
The rendering engine (cloud vs local) is a single settings toggle, not a reinstall, so you can start on a cloud API key to test a workflow, then switch to local once it's worth building out GPU capacity.
12Free local rendering on your GPU (ComfyUI)
Local generation needs real hardware: about 24GB of VRAM for video models and 8-16GB for image models, so check that before assuming 'free and local' is actually free for your machine.
A local render engine can point at another computer's GPU over the network, so a lighter machine can trigger a heavy render on a more powerful one instead of needing its own beefy card.
13How the payment system works
Three separate pricing paths can exist for the same tool: pay-per-generation on a cloud API, monthly credits on a hosted-GPU cloud plan, or unlimited free rendering on your own GPU for the cost of electricity.
Per-generation cloud pricing shown before you hit generate is the detail that actually answers 'how much will this cost me,' instead of a vague monthly-plan estimate.
14The real cost vs $100/month platforms
A subscription's real cost isn't the monthly number, it's whether unused credits roll over: credits that don't carry over and top-ups that expire mean a quiet month still bills full price.
A one-time purchase plus pay-as-you-render, or $0 on your own GPU, means a quiet month costs $0, the tradeoff worth naming when comparing subscription tools against pay-per-use or self-hosted alternatives.
15Windows, Mac & the new Linux standalone
Platform support is uneven across local AI tools: some local models are Windows-only, other platforms get pushed toward cloud rendering instead, and support elsewhere can lag as a separately maintained build, worth checking before assuming a 'local AI' tool works everywhere the host software runs.
Glossary
Terms worth knowing.
fal.ai
A pay-per-generation cloud API for AI image and video models, billed at the model's own per-render price rather than a monthly plan.
ComfyUI

metaphor
we all know ai is changing the way we work as editors and creatives from those first generative tools in photoshop all the way to where we are today it's exciting and scary at the same time but the part that is here to stay is simple these are tools and what matters most is how we put them into our workflows in this case that's davinci resolve that's what we made a fully functional app inside of davinci resolve that runs the latest ai models both on the cloud and for free local models on your own GPU.
it's all connected to davinci resolve it reads our timeline we can drag and drop instantly and you never have to open a browser and also you don't have to pay those expensive monthly subscriptions and there's nothing to import or export downloads or anything the last video got massive response and i'm very grateful for that i got tons of emails and requests with features and ideas and a lot of them are actually now implemented and in this video i'll walk you through it and show you how you can use it for many types of workflows whether you're an editor vfx artist 3d artist all of these tools can help you supercharge your workflows and bring your ids to life faster and easier We already made a bunch of tutorials on this channel.
So if you're interested in seeing use cases of AI, 3D and visual effects, it's all here on the channel. So go check that out if you're interested. The plugin is now available on Gumroad as a one -time payment.
I also have a school community where you can get the tool and also have direct feedback from myself and others. And it's also a nice platform if you want to learn VFX, 3D and AI. here we are in a blank project in davinci resolve if you are using the studio version you can go on the top here workspace and then go to workflow integrations and then you will see our plugin ai video studio and this is the interface we will get we have video generation we can generate videos from scratch using all the latest models like cdance 2 .5 minimax and much more we have all the available models for image to video and video to video then we also have all the controls for it and the resolution and all that stuff we even have a preset for camera and lens settings so here we can change the look of our camera the lens the focal length we can do all sorts of things or go to the lighting here we have different lighting setups for studio interior and exterior you can also use a custom prompt for the lighting itself and then in the light rig and here we can also customize and change the lighting that we want for our scene
We also have a preset for different camera animations. So that way we don't have to prompt it ourselves. And we have all the presets within our plugin.
We can also manually do this, but it's nice to have a preset for these controls. And at the bottom, we can also see the pricing. This is using Fall AI.
So this will be $2 for a five second clip of 720p. Keep in mind, ZDance 2 .5 is quite expensive, so we can also go to Minimax. And you can see it's much cheaper using that model.
And that will be around $1 for 5 seconds of a 4K clip. Also keep in mind the pricing will be displayed on the model itself or at the bottom here before you generate. Then we also have edit video here.
This will be connected to your timeline. So when I import some footage right here as an example, you can see it's connecting what we see on our timeline. You can also move this window around in the UI.
For example, we can dock it to the left and pin it on the top. That way, when we work in DaVinci Resolve, it will always stay on the side as a separate window. And just as an example for this clip, we can choose something like Sea Dance 2 .0 and then describe the changes we want.
For example, make this a nighttime scene. and remove the microphone and arm then we can also input a bunch of references video references audio or images we can even take a screenshot from our current resolve frame so that way it will capture a reference image from our timeline but in this case we don't really need this we just want to make this a nighttime scene and remove the microphone We don't need any audio and I will just choose 720p for now.
Let's hit generate and see what it's going to do. Then we can see the progress bar when it's generating and we can also cancel a render. Then all the renders will be stored right here in recent.
And it's now done generating. We have our nighttime scene and the microphone arm is removed. We can then add it to the timeline or to the media pool or reveal it.
But we can also simply drag it onto our timeline. So this is our original shot and then the re -lit shot we just created. just like that this was only a test in 720p there are many different things we can do with this plugin keep in mind i already made some other tutorials on this channel so go watch that if you're interested then we also have separate tools we can choose from we have a draw to video here we can draw and change aspects of our video or images we want to create then we also have reframe so we can reframe our shot into a 9x16 format for example we also have a preset for relighting our scene so here Here we can make reference frames and relight our entire video.
We also have a set of upscalers so we can upscale our video. And we also have an automatic rotoscope function. This is nice if you want to have a quick matte of your subject.
You can also use this option. Actually, let's try it right now. I will choose ProRes and then choose Dynamic.
I will choose 2K resolution and cutout and matte. Then we can generate a cutout and then it will create a matte for us. and here we go it created a cutout for us we can also use this onto our timeline and we also have the matte itself so we have a separate matte and the mask is actually pretty clean considering the time this took then of course we also have image generation then we have some other tools for visual effects for example backdrop generator this will generate backdrops for replacing our green screen so here we have different options and references we can choose from and then create a background plate for our green screen Then we can also generate 3D models using the 3D model generator.
This will use Tripo and Meshi. So here, same thing, we can input reference images and then it will create a 3D model. Then we also have 3D and AI.
This is solely used to transform our raw 3D renders into something photorealistic. For example, here we have a renderer from Unreal Engine 5. The basic idea here is to have a simple clay renderer, then feed it with reference images from the style and look you want, and then it will create your final shot.
This is done by adding references, sounds, and creating images for it, and then making the final video using your references. Just as an example, here is the input renderer and this is the final result using our references. This is using Seedance 2 .5 and as you can see, it looks very nice and the original motion and everything is preserved.
And this is definitely the future of rendering. Here is another example of our same shots reimagined using Seedance 2 .5. I will make more tutorials explaining this process in detail, so keep an eye out for that.
Then a new feature we have is sound design. Here we can create sound effects using Eleven Labs. We can also create sounds based off our clip.
So there's a lot of functionality and things we can do within the plugin. Then another feature is the Note Studio. This is more like an advanced workflow where we can add notes.
Image models. Then we also have a small button right here. This is our AI assistant.
So here we can describe what we want to create. We can ask for prompts. We can do all sorts of things with our assistant itself.
And we have different assistants we can choose from. We have our NVIDIA serverless APIs. This is completely free and runs on your own system.
So here we can ask something like create an image of a dog. then of course we have the prompt and the image model we can choose from this one is using gpt2 you can then hit generate and let's see what it's going to generate based off this simple instruction and there we go we have an image of a puppy inside a field using gpt2 you can even make it a lot smarter using your own api keys for cloud or gpt5 there's a lot of control for the assistant now to make this functional for your own needs you need to set up everything within our settings on the top right here we have a settings button and here we have all the control and the settings we can change for our plugin now with version 3 we have a new section called update and here we can update our plugin right from the settings And as mentioned before, we can change our mode.
Right now we are in fall mode using the cloud. And here we can set up our API key for fall. I also have a link for this so we can go to dashboards.
And right here in fall, we can add a key and create our API keys. if you then copy and paste this key we can start generating using our fall balance so make sure you have some balance available in fall ai otherwise you can't generate now we can also change the engine to comfyui local and cloud so if we set it to this computer and you have a working version installed and running in the background then we can start rendering locally and for free on our GPU.
When ComfyUI is running, we see right here it's connected. And the GPU models are ready. Now, when you are in this mode, of course, we need to download all the available models.
This can take up quite a bit of space. So make sure you have enough space for this. So for the video here, we have Minimax installed.
And we also have some other models like LTX 2 .3. You can link this to a folder and then install all the available models that we can use within our plugin. There's also an option to render it from another machine.
So if you have the server address and the access key, then you can input it right here and render it from another GPU. Then, of course, we also have Comfy Cloud. If you don't want to render on your own GPU, we can use the cloud for this and use hosted GPUs.
Then if you go down here in the accounts, we have our NVIDIA key for our assistant. We also have cloud. Or if you have another AI that you want to use, you have it available right here.
You have OpenAI, DeepSeek, all sorts of AI models you can choose from. You can even choose models that are stored on your... own computer so if you want to have your own ai assistant know that this option is available then we also have an output folder so here is where all your ai generations will be stored on your computer that is basically everything you need to know to get it up and running on your system so you can start generating Now, how does the payment system work for AI?
This part confuses a lot of people and I will try to explain it as simply as I can. So first of all, here is our tool for DaVinci Resolve AI Video Studio and it has three separate modes. One is for Fall AI, which uses an API key and you pay only per generation you make.
Then we have Comfy Cloud. This uses monthly credits on massively hosted GPUs and it's using Comfy UI. Then lastly, we can also render locally and for free, just like Minimax, H3 and LTX.
Those models are locally and we can render it straight from DaVinci Resolve. Everything will land on your DaVinci project and on your disk. So you can drag and drop it instantly and it's all...
in there within the software so you never have to import into a platform you never have to export anything it's all in the same software now for the payment itself we have the app ai video studio which is a one -time payment with no subscriptions ever it always keeps updating and developing and it's available for free and the studio version of davinci resolve Then for generating the AI itself, you can choose which way you want to go.
We have three ways. We can switch whenever you want or pay nothing at all. now if you are using fall ai it's a per render system so an image can cost literally cents and a clip of five seconds for example for cdance 2 .5 it will be around two dollars the cheaper models can even be under one dollar per clip so before you generate anything it will be shown within the app and you will see exactly what you're gonna pay and this is purely based off fall ai so all the payment and processing works that way if you want to use the cloud with fall ai if you have a very good graphics card you can even render locally using models like minimax h3 ltx flux All those models are available in the plugin for download.
Then you can start rendering on your own system. And the renders are unlimited. It's private and it even works offline.
Video needs about 24 gigabytes of VRAM. So keep that in mind if you want to use the video models that you have enough VRAM available. Images can work with a GPU of 8 to 16 gigabytes of VRAM.
And the monthly cost will be nothing at all except your electricity bill. and you have to have a great good GPU to handle it. then we can also choose comfy cloud let's say we like to use comfyui but sometimes on a project we want to have the best models possible like cdance we can also opt in for a monthly plan using comfyui your top up credits will keep its value for one year you can try it first with 400 credits and it runs on big hosted gpus one thing i have to mention as well is that you can even render it on another computer while you are working on your MacBook for example and of course over time this will get better and we can start rendering more and more locally on our own systems but it's nice to have a community of users who are trying it and testing it out on their own system this helps for future updates and just making an overall better product Then what is the comparison to Hicksfield, for example?
Don't get me wrong. Hicksfield is a great tool and you can use it for a lot of things. It's a polished all -in -one website and it has a massive user base and monthly it's about $60.
If you want to have more credits and using it a lot, you need to buy a big plan like $130 a month and monthly credits expire always. So even top upgrade, it will expire and every month you will pay the full price even if you are not rendering or using ai for that month with our plugin on gumroad it's a one -time payment with no subscriptions if you're using fall you will pay per render you are generating or free forever on your own graphics card if you want to use that and nothing expires and renders and prompts stay on your disk When it's a quiet month, you will pay exactly $0 because we are not tied to that subscription model.
The only downside is that you need a beefy graphics card if you want to render locally. The way I personally use this is if I'm exploring and just testing things out or doing my own projects, I will try out the free local models on my own graphics card. It's free and unlimited and it doesn't feel like a gamble every month and it's private so I can just explore and do whatever I want.
But if I'm working on projects and I want to have the best quality possible, this is where the cloud models. come into play here you can use fall ai pay what you need or use the config cloud as well now as i said it's available for free and the studio version of davinci resolve It's supported for Windows and Mac, but we also have a separate standalone app now for Linux, which will be a separate installer.
This is a massive improvement. It's a game changer for a lot of people. I use it for a lot of things of my own work.
Hope you enjoyed watching this video. If you have any questions, comment down below and see you on the next one. Peace.

AI Video Studio vs Higgsfield
A side-by-side on-screen comparison: Higgsfield's Plus ($49/mo yearly or $59/mo) and Ultra ($129/mo, 3,000 credits) plans don't roll over and expire top-ups after 90 days, so a quiet month still bills full price. AI Video Studio is a one-time purchase billed at fal's own per-render price or free forever on your own GPU, with nothing expiring and a quiet month costing $0.
