Big Idea
The argument in one line.
A compact gimbal camera built for solo creators eliminates the three-device problem by folding camera, monitor, and microphone into one pocketable unit with a detachable touchscreen that doubles as both remote and mic.
Who This Is For
Read if. Skip if.
READ IF YOU ARE…
You film yourself alone and regularly juggle a phone as a monitor while trying to operate your camera.
You want a compact all-in-one that shoots 8K with Leica color science without carrying a full kit.
You are deciding between the Insta360 Luna Ultra and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 for everyday social content.
You want good low-light performance from a pocket camera without dialing in manual settings.
SKIP IF…
You need interchangeable lenses or cinema-grade dynamic range — this does not replace a mirrorless.
You already own the Osmo Pocket 3 and are happy with it; the direct comparison video is not yet published.
TL;DR
The full version, fast.
The Insta360 Luna Ultra is a compact gimbal camera co-engineered with Leica that collapses camera, monitor, and microphone into one device via a detachable touchscreen remote. It shoots 8K at 30fps with a 1-inch f/1.8 sensor, offers lossless 6x zoom (12x total), built-in subject tracking at zoom, three Leica color profiles, 10-bit iLOG, and an AI low-light mode called Pure Video. The included Mic Pro wireless transmitter records in 32-bit float. The conclusion: not a mirrorless replacement, but the most self-contained solo-creator tool currently available.

Atomic Insights
Lines worth screenshotting.
The detachable touchscreen on the Luna Ultra is also the wireless microphone — one part serving three jobs: monitor, remote, and mic.
Lossless zoom goes to 6x on two native lenses; the camera digitally crops to 12x with only minor quality loss acceptable for social content.
Built-in tripod legs fold out of the handle, removing one more piece of kit from the solo-creator bag.
The Insta360 Mic Pro records in 32-bit float, meaning it physically cannot clip — a safety net for run-and-gun shooting.
Color recipes can be exported as a QR code so any other Luna owner can scan and instantly replicate the exact look.
The camera shoots 4K at 120fps for slow motion, and Pure Video AI mode handles low light without any manual input.
An e-ink display on the camera body shows settings without draining battery on a bright screen.
8K at 30fps with Dolby Vision is available on a device that fits in a jacket pocket.
Solo-creator tracking activates with one joystick press and works at up to 6x zoom while following face and body.
The wind guard is built into the onboard microphone, not sold separately — notable for outdoor vloggers.
Takeaway
What the detachable screen changes for solo creators.
WHAT TO LEARN
When one accessory serves as monitor, remote, and microphone simultaneously, the real gain is not convenience — it is the ability to focus on the shot rather than managing the rig.
The monitor problem is the core friction of solo filmmaking; any camera that solves it without adding a separate device is worth serious consideration.
Lossless zoom to 6x on a compact camera changes what telephoto b-roll costs in terms of kit — texture and detail shots previously required a second lens.
Subject tracking at zoom is more useful than tracking at wide because it lets you control depth of field while moving freely.
32-bit float audio recording removes the need to set gain levels before a shot, which matters most when you have no one operating the camera for you.
Color recipes shared via QR code are a practical solution for creators who shoot across multiple days or locations and need consistent looks without manual re-keying.
The decision between this camera and a mirrorless is not about image quality at the top — it is about how much friction you can tolerate in solo daily shooting.
Glossary
Terms worth knowing.
Lossless zoom
Digital zoom that stays within the native sensor area of one of the two physical lenses, preserving full resolution. Beyond this point the camera crops digitally and detail softens.
Dolby Vision
A high-dynamic-range video format that encodes brightness metadata per-frame, allowing compatible screens and platforms to display richer color and contrast.
iLOG
Insta360 flat (low-contrast) color profile that retains maximum dynamic range in footage for manual color grading in post-production.
32-bit float audio
A recording format with such a wide dynamic range that audio cannot clip no matter how loud the source gets — the signal can always be recovered in editing.
Pure Video mode
Insta360 AI-powered computational processing that combines multiple exposures to improve shadow detail and highlight recovery in low-light conditions automatically.
E-ink display
A low-power electronic paper display that shows text and icons using reflected light rather than a backlit panel, readable in sunlight and nearly battery-free.

00:00Insta three sixty might have just created my new favorite camera.
00:08I have been capturing life with the Insta three sixty Luna Ultra for the past few weeks, and I'll admit, I'm a little obsessed with this thing. I keep waiting to find something that I don't like about it or maybe something that has annoyed me, and I'm still waiting.
00:27This thing has completely changed how I have been vlogging my everyday life. And today, I'm going to show you exactly why. Hey, everyone.
00:36Welcome back to the channel. Thank you so much for being here. Just a quick note before we get into it.
00:42This video is sponsored by Insta three sixty who was kind enough to send me the Luna Ultra ahead of its official release date so that I could test it thoroughly and give you all my honest thoughts and opinions. I love that sound. So as per usual, let's get into it.
01:01Okay. So the first thing that I wanna talk about is the size of the camera. It is a little bigger than what I am used to using, which has been the Osmo p three.
01:10But dare I say, I actually like the size of the Luna Ultra a little bit better. It feels a little bit more robust, not as dainty, but still compact enough that I can throw it in my pocket, toss it in my bag, and take it with me pretty much anywhere.
01:27It is available in two colors, either black or white. Between the gimbal, the detachable screen, which I will get to in just a minute, the color profiles, the 12 times zoom, INSA three sixty hit the nail on the head with this one.
01:42I mean, isn't this thing so cute? Okay. Let's talk image quality and what this footage actually looks like.
01:49This camera has a one inch sensor and two lenses co developed with Leica. The main lens has a fixed aperture of f 1.8, which is what gives you that beautiful blurry background that everyone loves.
02:03It also shoots in eight k at 30 frames per second and supports Dolby Vision, so colors are rich and vibrant straight out of camera. You can also shoot four k at a 120 frames per second.
02:16So if you really wanted to slow things down or make a shot feel more cinematic, those settings are there for you as well. Now the zoom on this thing is wild.
02:26This camera has a 12 times zoom range. At the widest, it is a 20 millimeter equivalent, and at 12 times zoom, it's 240 millimeters.
02:36The lossless zoom goes up to six times using the two native lenses, and then it digitally crops at 12 times. There is a little quality loss at max zoom, but for social content, it's more than usable.
02:50I have been using the telephoto zoom to capture little textures and details that I would never be able to get with a wide angle lens, and it just makes that footage feel a little more cinematic. Okay. This is the feature I am most excited to tell you about.
03:05The screen detaches from the camera, and it becomes a remote control, and it also becomes the microphone. I know.
03:18Isn't that so cool? Oh, very touch screen remote. Yeah.
03:22This is by far my most favorite feature of the Luna Ultra. You all know that I primarily film myself by myself, and I'm always looking for the best ways and the quickest ways to be able to see my shots, make sure my composition and exposure is where I want it to be, and that always requires another device, whether it's my phone or an additional monitor screen.
03:50This camera fixes all of that. The fact that I can simply detach this from the Luna Ultra, view my shots, view myself, and then to have the added microphone component on top of it, I mean, stick a cereal spoon in me.
04:13It is brilliant and my favorite feature. It also has these little tripod legs that fold out from the bottom of the handle. So they're built in.
04:21No extra tripod needed. You just set it up wherever you need it to be and either get your shot there or walk away and use the little remote to adjust the gimbal, change the zoom, and hit record.
04:33Next, let's talk about some of the buttons on here. There's a dedicated zoom rocker right here on the side. There's a joystick up here for repositioning the camera, and then there are two buttons right below the screen that are fully customizable.
04:49You can customize each of them with a single press of a button and a double press of a button. So there's no fumbling, no menus, just quick and easy buttons.
04:58Okay. So the other thing that makes solo filmmaking so easy with the Luna Ultra is the tracking feature.
05:06So all I have to do to start tracking myself is actually just hit the joystick once. It'll find my face, and it'll start tracking me.
05:20And it follows me wherever, and it does a pretty solid job. You can also choose your framing.
05:28So all I have to do is let's say I wanted to see more of the building and less of myself. I would put it maybe in the middle or even if I wanted to be down here on this side and then walk this way or so you can choose which portion of the screen it focuses on, which is also amazing.
05:57And check this out. It'll track even if you are zoomed in. So I'm going to track myself.
06:10So even if you wanna get that shallow depth of field and still track yourself, you can do so with Luna Ultra. That is three times zoom, and this is six times zoom.
06:24Pretty amazing. And to stop tracking, all you gotta do is hit the joystick twice, and it'll reset.
06:31Now we are going to do a quick audio test because you all know how I feel about audio. It is just as important as your video.
06:41Okay. So audio test number one is just the on camera microphone that is on the Luna. So this is kinda me getting a little farther away, but we're gonna see how this sounds just naturally coming straight out of camera.
06:57Okay. So test number two is the detachable screen microphone.
07:02So there's not too much crazy noise going on around here. There's a little bit of traffic, but that's about it. But this is me getting even further and further and further, and we are gonna see how this bad boy sounds.
07:18And then this is what it sounds like with the Insta three sixty mic pro, which if you watched my last video, you will know that it sounds amazing. I love this microphone.
07:28It is what comes with the Luna Ultra, and the Mic Pro connects wirelessly. There is no receiver needed.
07:35It records in 32 bit float, which basically means it will never peak or clip. And the camera has a built in wind guard preinstalled on the onboard mic, which makes a super noticeable difference outdoors.
07:47And my absolute favorite feature, the e ink display. It is just the best.
07:54Let's talk color profiles because this camera has some really beautiful built in options. The three Leica profiles included are Leica vivid, Leica natural, and Leica chrome, and then there's a range of other profile options.
08:09What I love about the other color profile options, you can actually set the intensity of the filter so that it doesn't have to look super heavy if you don't want it to.
08:20You can dial it down and adjust it to your liking. There's also a cool feature called the recipes where you can set all of your custom parameters and then share that as a QR code.
08:30So anyone else with a Luna can scan it and instantly get that same look. And if you are familiar with color grading, the camera also shoots in 10 bit iLOG for a fully custom looking post. A few more things worth knowing.
08:46This camera has four hours of battery life, which is pretty impressive. It also comes with 47 gigabytes of internal storage built in, plus a micro SD card slot. The Luna Ultra Creator bundle comes with the camera itself, a protective cover, a quarter inch thread handle, a battery handle, a Micro transmitter, a wide angle lens, and a carrying case.
09:10Another great feature about this camera is the pure video mode. It's Insta three sixty's AI powered low light mode, so your footage looks amazing even in low light situations. I shot this at four k at 30 frames per second on the pure video mode with auto exposure.
09:27No manual settings, nothing fancy, and look how it handles the highlights and the shadows. The detail is genuinely impressive for a camera of this size.
09:36For portraits at night, pairing the mini fill light with the three times lens gives you this really clean, flattering result. The color temperature sensor keeps your skin tones looking natural even in mixed lighting. So who is this camera for?
09:51If you're a solo vlogger, if you film yourself by yourself like I do, whether that's content for YouTube, for social media, for your clients, this camera was made for you.
10:03The detachable screen, the built in tracking, the physical buttons, every feature of this thing solves a problem that solo creators have.
10:14Is it going to replace my Canon r five? No. But for day to day vlogging and content creation, the Luna Ultra is lighter, faster to use, and it's just kinda fun to shoot with.

The Hook
The bait, then the rug-pull.
The title is a provocation aimed at DJI loyalists: is a brand-new Insta360 actually better than the compact camera everyone already owns? The first five seconds answer with unhedged conviction — and then the review spends eleven minutes proving it.

03:25list
The Solo Creator Problem Stack
You need a monitor to check your shot
You need a remote to adjust without running back to camera
You need a mic that is not on the camera body
The implicit framework the entire review is built around: a solo creator filming alone needs monitor, remote, and mic — the Luna Ultra collapses all three into the detachable screen.
