Big Idea

The argument in one line.

Claude Fable 5 is genuinely better for technical vibe-coding tasks, but at double the cost and 2x usage drain, it is overkill for most knowledge work and no new model compensates for weak context or inputs.

Who This Is For

Read if. Skip if.

READ IF YOU ARE…
  • You use Claude Code daily and want a grounded, demo-backed take on whether Fable 5 is worth the upgrade.
  • You are on a Claude Max plan deciding whether to burn usage credits on Fable 5 before the June 22 cutoff.
  • You do vibe-coding work and want to see real output quality compared at the same prompt.
  • You do mostly knowledge work and are weighing whether a model upgrade will move the needle.
SKIP IF…
  • You want benchmark tables and technical architecture comparisons this is 100% practitioner-first, no charts.
  • You have not set up Claude or Claude Code yet.
TL;DR

The full version, fast.

Claude Fable 5 is twice the API cost of Opus 4.8 and burns Claude Max usage at 2x speed. In two live demos a digital product landing page and a personal website redesign Fable 5 produced more polished results: it auto-highlighted key testimonial phrases and proactively removed broken pages Opus 4.8 ignored. But for 90-95% of everyday knowledge work Opus 4.8 is more than sufficient. The core lesson holds across every model launch: bad context produces bad output regardless of which model you choose.

Atomic Insights

Lines worth screenshotting.

  • Fable 5 draws down Claude Max usage 2x faster than standard models a real cost most hype videos skip entirely.
  • At 10/50 dollars per million tokens in/out, Fable 5 is exactly twice the API price of Opus 4.8 at 5/25 dollars.
  • Fable 5 on Claude Max is included free until June 22, then requires usage credits a hard sunset that changes the economics.
  • For a one-shot landing page prompt, Fable 5 auto-bolded key testimonial phrases a conversion detail Opus 4.8 and 4.6 both missed.
  • Fable 5 autonomously identified and removed broken pages during a website redesign without being prompted to do so.
  • A landing page vibe-coded with Opus 4.6 generated 5000-7000 dollars in revenue proving that good enough models already convert.
  • Fable 5 took longer than Opus 4.8 on the complex website redesign but similar time on the simpler landing page.
  • Claude Code now shows a switch-model-when-flagged prompt reflecting Anthropic acknowledgment that Fable 5 will hit limits faster.
  • The model is not the bottleneck context quality is. Fable 5 with weak inputs still underperforms Opus 4.8 with strong inputs.
  • The morning briefing demo has become the tell for AI hype: if a creator shows it, they are optimizing for views, not usefulness.
Takeaway

Pick the model that matches the task, not the hype.

WHAT TO LEARN

The smartest move is not always using the most powerful model it is matching model capability to task complexity so you are not burning cost on work a cheaper model handles equally well.

  • Claude Fable 5 costs twice as much as Opus 4.8 in API pricing and burns Max plan usage at 2x speed factor that in before defaulting to the flagship.
  • For vibe-coding tasks (landing pages, website redesigns), Fable 5 produces more detail-aware outputs: it highlighted testimonial key phrases and proactively removed broken pages without being asked.
  • For knowledge work copywriting, research, content creation Opus 4.8 produces output quality that is hard enough to distinguish that the cost difference is difficult to justify.
  • The model ceiling is meaningless if your context floor is low. A well-structured prompt to Opus 4.8 outperforms a weak prompt to Fable 5.
  • A landing page built with Opus 4.6 (two generations older than Fable 5) generated 5000-7000 dollars in revenue proof that good enough models already convert at a high level.
  • Fable 5 on Claude Max is free until June 22, then becomes credit-based the window to test it at no extra cost is narrow and closing.

00:00So Claude Fable five and Claude Mythos five are officially here, and these are now the most advanced AI models from Anthropic and probably the most advanced AI models on the market right now. And I typically try to stay away from these, like, new model update videos as there's way too much hype and noise out there. But the goal of this is to go through why this is such a big model update, how expensive it is, who has access to it, and then provide a real world demo with Claude Fable five versus Claude Opus 4.8 on examples like landing pages and local service websites.
00:36So be sure to stick around for the full video. And if this is your first time to the channel, welcome. My name is Ryan.
00:42I'm a 6 figure AI entrepreneur, and I've been in the marketing industry for over a decade now. And if you wanna know my favorite AI tools, automations, and even some of my favorite Claude code skills, be sure to get my free AI marketing essentials guide.
00:56You can find the link for this in the video description or pinned comment below. I also run a free AI marketing community, so if that interests you as well, I'll leave a link to that, and you can join for free in the description below. So with Claude Fable five and Claude Mythos five, I'm not gonna sit here and bore you with all the information and benchmarks, and there's a 100 other YouTube videos that explain all of this stuff for hours because I don't care.
01:23Right? I care about how can these new models improve my current workflows and produce better results for what I'm working on in my marketing agency, my YouTube workflows, etcetera.
01:35But I will leave a link to this in the video description below if you wanna check it out. There are two things that I really do care about, though, and that is who can access this and how much does this cost at scale in terms of API pricing and token usage. So if I go to the main Claude website, claude.ai, I am on a Claude Max plan paying a $100 a month, and you'll notice I do have access to this.
02:00But it says included until June 22. So for a couple weeks here, they are releasing Claude Fable five to Claude Max plans. I assume they're gonna get rid of it and probably do an API only type situation.
02:14Don't quote me on that. I'm not an insider and anthropic or anything. But it says here Fable five, if I hover over this, it says is included in your plan limits until June 22.
02:23After that, switch to usage credits to continue using it. And then here's a little disclaimer from Anthropic. Fable is the most capable model and draws down usage two times faster than Claude Code.
02:34So speaking of two times faster than Claude code, you'll notice on the API pricing side, again, I'll leave links to all of these in the video description below if you wanna take a look, Claude fable five for input tokens is $10 per million tokens on the input side, $50 per million tokens on the output side.
02:54Now if you have no idea what that means or what I just said here, well, as a comparison, Claude Opus 4.8, the previous most advanced model from Anthropic, $5 per million tokens on the input, $25 per million tokens on the output.
03:09In layman's terms, Claude Fable five is twice as expensive and will drain your usage twice as fast versus using Claude Opus 4.8. And I haven't done a lot of testing yet, but the question that I have for knowledge work, right, copywriting, um, you know, research, and just general knowledge work that I'm doing in marketing and content creation on a day to day, is Claude Fable five overkill for what I'm doing?
03:36And my hunch is for most knowledge work use cases, the answer is yes. And I always like to look at the commentary around these new models when they drop.
03:45Gail Breton's one of my favorite creators in the AI space, and he had this tweet here that cracked me up. He says, I can't wait for people to automate their morning briefing with Fable. How true is that?
03:56Right? Every time there's this massive AI update, one of the real world examples that these creators always show is some morning briefing. Fable five is complete overkill for a morning briefing.
04:08Um, but I did say another one that caught my attention here, this was from Riley Brown, another popular creator in the AI space, is that he vibe coded Lovable in two prompts with Fable five. I'll leave this link in the video description below if you wanna watch this video here of him doing it, and that's where I think this is super powerful, right, With the Fable five, Mythos five model set, when it comes to vibe coding or, you know, anything on the more technical side, that's where these models shine.
04:38And for most people that are not doing things that are technical, like vibe coding, programming, things of that sort, and they're doing mostly knowledge work, Claude Opus 4.8, heck, even four Opus 4.5 for that matter last year is more than good enough to produce quality outputs if you provide the right context and inputs.
04:58And I even ranted about this this morning. Right? I always rant about this when a new model comes out.
05:04A new model will not save you if your context and inputs are trash. And we are there's way too many people that consume all this hype content, oh my god, Fable five, Mythos five, like it's gonna change overnight if they're not providing good context and good inputs, thinking that it's just a silver bullet. So I could rant about this forever, but I wanted to call that out.
05:24But now let's actually move into a real world situation here. And so what I'm going to do is I'm going to have Claude Fable five redesign my landing page for a digital product called the Claude Code Skill Stack.
05:37I've made over $5,000 in revenue, probably 6 or $7,000 at this point from this vibe coded landing page that Opus four point six actually created.
05:46So I'm gonna redesign this with Fable five and also Opus 4.8, and then compare the outputs using the exact same prompt. And then after that, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna have it build a local service website.
06:00So this is just an example of something that I vibe coded with Opus 4.6. I'm gonna have Opus 4.8 and Fable five build a local service website and then compare the outputs across those.
06:12So let's see what happens here. So for this first demo, I'm going to redesign the landing page for my digital product of the Claude Code Skill Stack, and you'll see I've opened up Claude Code. I am using Visual Studio Code, that's my IDE of choice, with the Claude Code extension, but you can also do this on Cursor, Google Anti Gravity, the Claude desktop app.
06:33You can use Claude in a terminal if you want to, and if you've never used or set up Claude code before, I'd recommend watching my beginner's guide in the video description below. And so the prompt that I'm going to use to test both Fable five and Opus 4.8 is the following.
06:49I need you to redesign my landing page for my digital product, and then I gave it the URL of that digital product with the number one goal of optimizing for more conversions or sales. Keep my branding intact. Produce your new landing page locally for me to review.
07:02So I I just want local revisions. I don't want anything pushed live on the Internet that's going to impact this. Then I wanted to list the top three changes it made and why.
07:11Basically, the reason I'm doing that is I want to evaluate the thinking of Fable five versus Opus 4.8 and why they made those updates. So I'm gonna copy this, and then I'm gonna open up another chat of Claude code, paste the exact same prompt in here, and so for this first one, we need to change this to Fable five. So I'm gonna click this option here.
07:31I'm gonna click switch model, and then I'm gonna click fable five. Now just to make sure that this test is fair, I'm gonna turn off thinking mode, and, honestly, I've been using Claude code a lot this morning before I recorded this video, so I'm scared I'm I'm scared I'm gonna run out of usage as I'm demoing these things for you guys.
07:48I'm gonna keep effort on low, um, and then we're just gonna call that as is. Now for the next chat here, I'm going to put this on Opus 4.8. So let's do default Opus 4.8, and then we also wanna make sure thinking's off and we're on low effort.
08:03And I actually just noticed this. This is a new update. Switch models when a message is flagged.
08:07So if you're I'm assuming based on that, more people are gonna start running out of usage as they try to do things with Fable five, and so it looks like Anthropic added this new feature in Claude code right here. And so now let's go ahead and actually hit enter. I'm actually gonna bypass permissions for this example.
08:24I'm gonna click enter there, bypass permissions, click go here, and then let's skip ahead, and let's compare outputs when these are complete. Alright.
08:32And so after a few minutes, my landing page has been redesigned. What was interesting to me is that they took a similar amount of time to complete this actual task. I figured Fable might be a little slower than Opus 4.8, but they ended right at about the same time here.
08:47So here, they're giving me some local URLs. So first, let's review Opus 4.8 on this new landing page. It's gonna open up a new tab here.
08:55So just to keep in mind, this is my current landing page that is driving a decent amount of sales and revenue, so it's definitely converting. But if we look at my current landing page and compare it to the Opus 4.8 version, I actually like this right away on the top.
09:11Get instant access is more visible. Um, and I if I had to guess, this is probably more optimized for mobile because most of my conversions are coming on mobile, but we're just gonna look at the desktop version for the purposes of this tutorial.
09:24Um, not bad. I you know, I kinda like the above the fold section here a little more. It kept this the same.
09:30Um, a lot of this is very similar. Right? Everything you get, built for marketers, what buyers are saying, that's similar.
09:37Um, that's a new addition here. Ready to ship faster. Same FAQ.
09:41So not a ton of huge updates in my mind. Right? Most of it came above the fold here, and I do like the little additions.
09:49Now let's go ahead and look at Claude Fable five. So let's go to that other tab, click this local host URL. This is Claude Fable five.
09:58Turn Claude code into your marketing team. So right away, I kinda like that that header right there instead of ship a week of content in an afternoon. This one is just more powerful to me.
10:07Right? Um, again, I like this, you know, very similar to my current landing page. That's similar with the widget.
10:14That's similar as well. Everything you get for $99 built for marketers. Um, I okay.
10:19I like that. That's a cool little feature here, how it's bolding and highlighting, um, you know, the most important takeaways of these reviews that people have left.
10:28That's a cool feature. So there's the FAQ, ship faster. So added another button down here.
10:34It didn't make and this is an update right here as well. It didn't make, you know, a lot of massive updates per se compared to my original one. But, again, this is a small example, and I let it know that it was doing decently well.
10:48So based on that context, I assume that it wasn't going to make massive updates. Um, but overall, I would still probably use, you know, this updated version from Fable five versus what I currently have. This is ready to go right now.
11:02Um, and so I'd probably use that one. And the Opus 4.81 isn't terrible, um, but with these, like, little minute additions here, like, the highlighting of the reviews, That's a cool little detail that Opus four point eight and four point six did not catch.
11:16Um, so I'm gonna give the slight nod to Fable five in this instance of landing pages, but let's move on now to a more detailed example. Now for this next demo, I'm gonna be comparing the outputs of Claude Fable five versus Opus 4.8 when it comes to redesigning my ryandozer.com website and seeing who does a better job at the end.
11:37Now I'm just gonna be evaluating the first draft, so keep that in mind here. Now just for some context, this ryandozer.com website is built on WordPress using the Elementor theme.
11:48It is getting a lot of traffic mostly from these blog articles being repurposed from my YouTube videos. I'll leave that tutorial in the description below if you're interested in that.
11:57But if we pull up Claude Code here, I've opened up two fresh new chats, one with Fable five, one with Opus 4.8, and I'm giving it the exact same prompt once again, giving it context that my website's built on WordPress with the Elementor theme. I want it to optimize for SEO, better site speed, better design, more conversions.
12:17Right? And then I'm just giving it some context of I want it to use the ASTRO web framework as it's redesigning this website.
12:24Keep my branding intact, produce your new website locally, then list the top three changes you made and why. So, again, I'm gonna be using the exact same prompt for Opus 4.8.
12:34So I'm gonna go ahead and bypass permissions on both chats. Let's do it for the next one, and then I'm going to skip ahead once these outputs are complete. Alright.
12:43So now let's check out the redesigns for my ryandozer.com website. And one thing to note here is that Fable five did take longer than Opus 4.8 for this particular task, and I honestly expected that in my opinion.
12:56But here we go. Opus 4.8. Here's the first local host URL.
13:00I'm gonna drag this over, and if you remember, this is what my current website looks like. Again, it's a WordPress Elementor theme build. Here is the Opus 4.8 version.
13:10I like this above the fold right away. I think it's more clear. There's a more clearer call to action.
13:15It looks cleaner, simpler. Um, I like this part right here. There's no logo, so I didn't know how many images or, you know, other media it would bring over successfully here.
13:25Um, so it looks like we have four ways to work together, blah blah blah. I'm just gonna navigate through the about page really quickly just to see this. Um, not bad.
13:34You know? And, again, I'm sure this is more optimized for mobile as well. It did carry over the blog content, so that was really interesting here.
13:41If I go into this, yeah, it successfully carried this over, embedded the videos, the images. I'm actually impressed by that. Uh, so it carried all of that over correctly.
13:50But, nonetheless, that is Opus 4.8. Not bad. Right?
13:53I think it's a little better than my current website if I had to say. But now let's go back to Claude code and open up Fable five. This is what I'm looking forward to seeing here.
14:03And what I found interesting right away, right off the bat, is it actually kinda took a newer design spin. And, you know, my guess here is that it looked at this bottom floating widget when I saw the colors here at first glance. It probably took this bottom floating widget and incorporated that into the actual design.
14:22So, technically, that's not as on brand as I would like it to be. Now there is this little navy blue right here that is on brand with my logo, um, but not bad.
14:32You know? I've there's a reason it did this, you know, and I kinda like this design so far. If I click the about page, um, that's not bad.
14:39And, again, I would need to give it more media and context, I think, in order to do this correctly. Um, so here's the consulting page. I like the free AI guide callout.
14:49That looks pretty clean. It goes straight to my kit URL. And if I click the blog section, so here's the blogs.
14:54I'd wanna change that. Not a big fan of this. Um, if I click the blogs, here's kind of the blog layout.
14:59So just like Opus 4.8, took the video embed and the images over correctly. Um, but, again, I didn't expect much because this was a one shot prompt telling it to redesign an entire website.
15:11If I were to actually go through with this task, I would give it way more context. I would provide it with way more media files, etcetera.
15:19Um, but just looking at the homepage, I must say, I am impressed with Fable five in terms of the homepage redesign. It just looks more professional. It looks more modern.
15:29It looks more credible in my opinion. Um, so I really like that, uh, compared to what Opus 4.8. This looks more AI ish, I would say, with Opus 4.8.
15:39But, again, it is better too than my current WordPress Elementor, and I'm sure these sites are faster, built on the ASTRO framework, if I were to deploy these live with GitHub and Cloudflare. Um, but overall, I'm actually pretty impressed by this where it took the branding direction.
15:54And if I come back to Claude code, one thing I realized I forgot to do from the first demo on the landing pages is review the top three changes. So according to Claude Fable five, here it's telling me, you know, the WordPress Elementor change, a clear conversion path, um, and then it's saying killed the killed the broken embarrassing pages.
16:15Um, so there actually was some embarrassing pages that it killed here. So it it took initiative to find those pages with the bad copy or broken links and then ended up fixing those as well. So overall, super interesting stuff here with Claude Fable five and Mythos five, and I think this is a really big update.
16:31It's not something like Opus 4.7 to Opus 4.8. This is a brand new tier of models. And for my particular situation in going forward, I plan on using Fable five while it lasts.
16:43Right? Fingers crossed. I'm not sure I'm gonna venture into the API side of things, but if they do keep this in the max plan, my plan going forward is to use this for vibe coding tasks like landing pages or building websites.
16:57But for the 90 to 95% of my other knowledge work involving marketing and content creation, I'm going to be sticking with Opus 4.8 for the most part here.
17:07But if you made it this far into the video, I also wanna hear your thoughts, you know, on Claude Fable five and Mythos five. Leave me your comments in the comment section below. I'm curious to hear what you guys think about this, how you're gonna plan on using it, etcetera.
